What are you cooking for tea in this heat?

That doesn't involve standing over the oven? I'm melting in my office and not looking forward to cooking tea later...

Tinned chicken curry and green beans. Chocolate beetroot cake.

desperate4spring · 20/07/2021 17:04

Red curry salmon linguine. New recipe, currently cooking on the hob and it smells rank.

Mulanmoo · 20/07/2021 17:05

Easy coronation chicken (to be had cold, so easy to make and lasts for days in the fridge), a salad and some nice bread!

Chicken and Chorizo patatas bravas traybake type thing with a paprika mayonnaise drizzled over the top.

peaceanddove · 20/07/2021 17:08
@peaceanddove that’s absolute genius.
Will be trying this at some point in the incredibly close future, probably with the addition of a slice of smoked bacon or some kind of ham too.
What type of cheese do you recommend? I feel like Swiss could work well here.
You're welcome. Tonight, we're having it just with sliced vintage Cheddar. But crumbled Stilton also tastes amazing! Haven't tried Swiss but bet that would be great too. Frankly, I've never met a cheese I didn't like Smile

I also often serve fish fingers in a cheesy bap, with a slice of cheese and layer of mushy peas - don't laugh until you've tried it Wink

coogee · 20/07/2021 17:18

Why don’t you ask what people are eating in this weather, rather than cooking? Why is it assumed that cooking is the sole responsibility of women (who I assume predominate mumsnet)?

I don’t think it is. I took the the “you” to mean as a family rather than specifically me as an individual.

As it happens, I won’t be cooking anything, but we as a family will.

HeronLanyon · 20/07/2021 17:18

I am making a big watermelon feta and black olive ‘salad’. Watermelon is in fridge.
Had good lunch - tend to eat more midday in this heat.

NormanSicily · 20/07/2021 17:20

Veggie spag bol, supposed to be with some sugar snap peas but I forgot them. Pudding of strawberries, bananas and cold custard.
Melting!

Hallyup6 · 20/07/2021 17:24

My husband is cooking chilli. I may have to eat it whilst sat in the kids' paddling pool. I'm trying to be grateful that he does the cooking...

TanyaLoves · 20/07/2021 17:25

Fishcakes with fresh salad tonight. Easy and yummy!

TrixieThunder · 20/07/2021 17:26

I made a lamb shank ravine yesterday (once ingredients are together, leave to slow cook so minimal cooker time). It will be left overs today.

pinatastick · 20/07/2021 17:28

Burgers and kebabs on the barbecue tonight.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 20/07/2021 17:30

@Arsebucket

Don’t do what I did last night and cook spaghetti bolognese.

It was like having dinner in Hades.

I made that mistake at dinner time by cooking a pasta bake. My usually cool kitchen was like a flaming sauna
Needapoodle · 20/07/2021 17:30

Nobody having fish fingers and chips then? Grin

Nancydrawn · 20/07/2021 17:37

Highly recommend Nigella's Summer. The idea is that recipes should be quick/involve minimal cooking or should be things you can leave in the oven and walk away from until it's done.

Other than that, my favourites in the heat are cold sesame noodles, a grilled salad, and anything where I can send someone else out to faff around with the grill.

Hm2020 · 20/07/2021 17:41

Cold smoked salmon with avocado sun dried tomatoes kimchi lettuce and cucumber lovely and light.

gillysSong · 20/07/2021 17:57

Not cooking. Anyone wanting hot food in this weather will be cooking it themselves.

justasking111 · 20/07/2021 18:02

I ain't cooking in this heat. Hit Lidl this morning fridge bursting with quiche, chicken, ham, salads. I did buy a gammon which OH cooked this afternoon. So we're on cold meats and salads until further notice

IReallyLikeCrows · 20/07/2021 18:03

I've made a sausage and lentil casserole and it nearly did for me. The good thing is that there's a lot of it so I won't be cooking again until the weekend when I'm staying with a friend who will probably make sure that we eat a lot of salad.

justasking111 · 20/07/2021 18:04

I may do the odd pasta on the hob and those microwave rice things are okay as a side dish

Sn0tnose · 20/07/2021 18:05

Sardines on toast for me and a tuna toastie for DH, with mango Cornettos for pudding.

Rockbird · 20/07/2021 18:21

Wait what? Mango cornettos??

PattyPan · 20/07/2021 18:43

Just popped into M&S and picked up some lamb koftas for DP and lentil koftas for me for tomorrow, they’re in the chilled deli section so don’t need to cook them. Hopefully nice but anything is nicer than cooking in this heat!

SlothinSpirit · 20/07/2021 18:45

No cooking tonight. Just had rotisserie chicken, couscous and carrot sticks. Watermelon chunks and ice cream for pudding.

KarlMaldensNose · 20/07/2021 18:45

Egg Mayo and cress sandwich cherry tomatoes and a bag of crisps and a bottle of Sauvignon blanc with ice in it.
