What are you cooking for tea in this heat?

That doesn't involve standing over the oven? I'm melting in my office and not looking forward to cooking tea later...

OP posts:

DH and I are vegan, last night we had baby spinach from the garden, feta, cubed watermelon, avocado and toasted mixed seeds. DH says it was delicious and filling, I can't taste or smell due to Covid.

Tonight is anyone's guess, I'm struggling with my chest so I might order a subway. 😳

SalsaLove · 20/07/2021 14:54

Mexican corn salad with feta and red peppers. I add macaroni to bulk it out. Gorgeous!

isettled · 20/07/2021 14:55

Salad for the 10th night running!
Smoked mackerel tonight, a microwave pouch of mixed pulses stirred through the salad to bulk it up, with balsamic vinegar. Takes as long as chopping the veggies and dues to involve extra heat! And even better hardly any dishes to do

Divineswirls · 20/07/2021 14:55

Roasting a chicken to have with salads and or pitta bread.

mbosnz · 20/07/2021 14:55

Oven baked salmon, baby new potatoes, asparagus, beans and carrots, and I might really bake my daughter's noodle and do a salad as well. I thought feeding a toddler a good balanced diet was hard. That was child's play, compared to an 18 year old!

greatestdancer · 20/07/2021 14:56

We’re having veggie fajitas

FogHornInTheAttic · 20/07/2021 14:59

Salad, micro chips and burgers on the Ninja Grill

ShrikeAttack · 20/07/2021 15:04

I had a load of ripe tomatoes so have made a gazpacho, also had eggs and new potatoes that needed using so cooked a tortilla this morning when the kitchen was nice and cool. I've got some kjng prawns out of the freezer for gambas al ajillo, pan con tomate, few olives, caperberries.

Large glass of rose.

Looking forward to it!

BarbaraofSeville · 20/07/2021 15:05
@camandmitch that sounds brilliant! Just cook the salmon and then the noodles separately? Do you put anything on the noodles/veg?

Salad would be a brilliant idea except my husband would not be impressed Grin he's on a night shift and would soon be heading to the kebab shop.

Did fajitas last night and pasta the night before.

Am thinking about these salmon and noodles Smile might borrow that idea camandmitch
If your DH wants something other than salad, he knows where the kitchen is. Don't fall into that all too common trap of eating what your DH wants even when you don't want it yourself.

We've cooked our dinner on the BBQ every night since Friday last week. We've set up a gazebo in the garden and have spent most evenings out there eating, reading, drinking, chatting and chilling with the cats. It's like being on holiday and long may it continue.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 20/07/2021 15:06

@CagneyNYPD

It's a cold, picky tea here tonight. Ham, cheese, salad, houmous, bread sticks etc. My DD asked for a roast on Sunday 🤦‍♀️
DS (poorly) has requested homemade chicken soup tonight. They're trying to kill us!
ShrikeAttack · 20/07/2021 15:07

Oh, and I got peaches and raspberries in my veg box this week so have made a peach melba for pudding.

Mintjulia · 20/07/2021 15:25

Tonight is wholemeal pasta with prawns and grated courgettes. It has butter, fennel seeds, garlic and a splash of ouzo. And then maybe an ice cream. Smile

Bryonyshcmyony · 20/07/2021 15:27

@Divineswirls

Roasting a chicken to have with salads and or pitta bread.
Yep me too
Googlewasmyidea1 · 20/07/2021 15:37

Had cottage pie on Saturday, full roast on Sunday, last night we had honey & mustard chicken legs, mashed potatoes and sweetcorn. Tonight we're having a ham omelette which has potatoes, peppers, peas, mushrooms, ham obvs, cheese and spring onions - will have with a bit green salad. We've got all the doors and windows open but curtains and blinds shut and there's a nice cool breeze blowing through the house so it's not so bad

LouLou789 · 20/07/2021 15:37

Homemade burgers on the grill tonight
Stir fry prawns and veg yesterday
Slow cooker bolognese tomorrow
Poached white fish on Thursday
Not putting the oven on!

Garfunkle · 20/07/2021 15:42

Cooking in this heat? Not a chance!! I called over our local market in my lunch time and bought some salad, naice ham and ready made coleslaw. I’ll throw it on some plates this evening. Job done 😊

If anyone doesn’t want it they are free to cook their own

Camandmitch · 20/07/2021 15:47

I put soy sauce, sesame oil, crushed garlic and honey on the salmon before I cook it.

I'll chop up red pepper, cucumber, spring onions and tinned sweetcorn and mix it with the drained noodles. Add more soy sauce/garlic/sesame mixture.

If you have it Chuck some dried seaweed, fried onions and sesame seeds on top. I also have some kimchi that I'll add

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 20/07/2021 15:48

Salmon yakitori and sticky rice.

Arsebucket · 20/07/2021 15:51

Don’t do what I did last night and cook spaghetti bolognese.

It was like having dinner in Hades.

peaceanddove · 20/07/2021 15:52

Tonight we're having M&S chicken Kiev's served in a large cheesy bap, with a slice of cheese, a handful of iceberg lettuce and dollop of Hellman's.

Ninkanink · 20/07/2021 15:55

My plan for this week (re-posted from yesterday):

Friday we had spaghetti with king prawns in olive oil with garlic, chilli, lemon and parsley.

Saturday was steak with garlic butter and salad.

Yesterday we had grilled lamb with flatbreads, harissa, cucumber, and yoghurt/garlic sauce.

Today I’m roasting a chicken (thankfully we live in an old house and the kitchen stays cool) and we’ll have it with a potato salad/vinaigrette.

Tomorrow will be chicken Caesar salad.

Wednesday will be roasted sea bass with red curry paste/Thai aromatics, with jasmine rice.

Thursday will be pasta with meatballs in a tomato sauce, with roasted med veg.

Friday will be pork gyoza/dumplings with a noodle and veg stir fry (that is, if I’m in the mood to make the wrappers from scratch...), otherwise I’ll probably do a tagine instead.

Dancingbugbadge · 20/07/2021 15:56

Southern fried chicken in a wrap with salad and coleslaw! Nice and easy.

Divineswirls · 20/07/2021 15:56

Yesterday I cooked gammon in the slow cooker which we had with pitta and salads. There's loads left over to be used as cold cuts or whatever dish gets knocked up in the next few days.

I know that DS loves helping himself to the gammon from the fridge as a snack.

And DD & I love adding cold gammon and cold chicken to a big salad.

I usually have a potato salad on the go

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 20/07/2021 16:01

Hahahaha
PineappleSeahorse · 20/07/2021 16:02

Hummus pasta salad.
