Please can I just rant about my neighbour

Having moved to a rural position partly to escape a vile neighbour I have now got myself a neighbour who has more machinery than toolstation. Angle grinders, mini diggers, chain saws, professional standard strimmer and pressure washer with a huge petrol engine you name it he has it.

Just as summer starts he has decided to terrace his entire 2 acre garden himself with his mini digger. He has lived there 30 years and we have had the whole of fucking lockdown but no, he has to do it now.

The noise us horrendous. He has only done about 12 feet and he's on his shitting digger 8 hours a day. I can hear it in the house and of course in the garden where I would like to sit out at last. I have my headphones on full blast but can still hear the bastard thing.

I know there is nothing I can do so I am just ranting. What are your neighbours up to?

I sympathise with u, that is a long time to hear that noise.

I often feel guilty as I’m the only one with children in my block and often feel like I’m constantly hushing them so the neighbours don’t get disturbed.

fluffedup · 17/07/2021 12:25

My neighbours are doing similar, except that they are paying people to do it, so it will be done quicker and only happens 9-5 on weekdays.

I don't mind actually, because it means I'll feel less guilty about the noise when we have our extension built later.

If I were you I would console myself with the thought that work will eventually end, and machinery noise is still better than having to listen to shit music.

imaginethemdragons · 17/07/2021 12:26

Grin at shitting digger!

Strawberryshitfest · 17/07/2021 12:26

Mine are pressure washing their patio. Was doing it Friday night too. As soon as the sun comes out the industrial patio pressure washer comes out for a good 6 hour stint. Always on the weekend too when he doesn’t even work in the week. Could do it on an overcast weekday but no it’s always when we want to sit outside on a sunny weekend. Happens every summer

TroysMammy · 17/07/2021 12:30

Nothing going on here. The silence would be deafening if it wasn't for the sparrow cheeping.

memberofthewedding · 17/07/2021 12:40

My neighbours are vile entitled bastards but at least they are not noisy. Theyve played a few dirty tricks on me.

Sometimes I "entertain" them at 2-4 am with an app of cats fighting that I have on my phone - right under their bedroom window.

I dont have a cat but there are plenty in the neighbourhood! So it much have been someone elses cats.

messybun101 · 17/07/2021 12:45

Mine was just in the garden with some sort of fuel filled flame stick burning weeds (I think? Or ants?)

It's fucking stinking

Saltyslug · 17/07/2021 12:47

At least it’s a job with an end, hopefully he’s a nice man and will be a good neighbour long term

Bargebill19 · 17/07/2021 12:55

And with all that patio and increased rain fall, he will soon have a new swimming pool.

Ozberry · 17/07/2021 12:58

Chainsaw wankers started up at 8am this morning. It’s a regular Saturday occurrence.

PinniGig · 17/07/2021 12:59

Ahhh yes the “It's lovely and warm outside I must mow the threadbare patch of grass within an inch of its life, set fire to as much shit as possible and tinker with an old bike revving the tits out of it and sending acrid smoke pissing into the living room of neighbours” kinda neighbour.

Your time will come perhaps late summer into Sept when the weather is still nice and you can have a BBQ and few friends round to make a bit of noise, rev some engines, burn shit and mow a 3x2 patch of grass.

Little wins make it :)

Jaxhog · 17/07/2021 12:59

We've had builders' noise now for 18 months. The houses are finished, so god only knows why they need such noisy machinery still. It's too noisy to sit on our patio without having to shout at each other.

This has been happening intermittently for 30 years, as 'old' houses get pulled down and gigantic monstrosities get put up in their place. I now have 3 sets of noise-cancelling headphones. We'd move but we love our house.

LaMadrilena · 17/07/2021 12:59

Oh no! That would give me the rage too! My neighbour on one side has a little yappy dog that gets left alone a lot. On the other side is a little boy who talks REALLY LOUD ALL DAY. Honestly, I don't know where a 2-y-old gets the vocabulary or the lung capacity, because I swear he doesn't even pause for breath, but to be honest he cracks me up and it doesn't bother me at all. We're probably the most annoying neighbours at the moment, with a constantly thirsty 6-w-old, so can't complain about anyone else. Except the lady with mental health problems 2 doors down who occasionally scratches our door or paints it with lipstick...

This is probably the noisiest house (flat) I've ever lived in. We're between Madrid airport and a military airbase, the bus passes just under our window, and the council seem to think that the grass in the park over the road needs strimming every day. And now we're adding to the mix with a crying baby!

Evil genius!
picklemewalnuts · 17/07/2021 13:02

My neighbour has built everything imaginable in his garden. Two sheds, decking, bin cover, bar, bench, raised beds, laid patio, retailed the house, refitted the bathrooms, he tinkers and potters at all times, unless he's got friends over. So it's either music and chatting or music and power tools.

WeatherwaxOn · 17/07/2021 13:05

One lot are in the garden skipping and trampolining, another is gardening, a third lot are having a party outside with loud and crap music.

Sn0tnose · 17/07/2021 13:07

One side is smoking weed to the point I’ve had to close the window. The other side are quiet. Probably worn out from the explosive argument they were having underneath my bedroom window at 3am and catching up on some much needed sleep.

daisycottage · 17/07/2021 13:09

The loud shouty hot tub man moved away and a retired couple have now moved in. Their immediate neighbour is loud football dad, but he's quietened down since loud hot tub man moved. Everyone else is quiet and I dread any of them moving because I know we're lucky to have considerate neighbours. We had to move from our last house due to ongoing problems.

Movinghouseatlast · 17/07/2021 13:10

You are right it's better than music!

I am proof that when people say " go and live in the middle of nowhere if you don't want noise" they are wrong. Noise happens everywhere!

He is otherwise a good neighbour but he is the sort who can't sit still so always has heavy machinery doing something or other. I just wish he had done this in lockdown.

I just want peace and quiet.

OP posts:
WeatherwaxOn · 17/07/2021 13:22

We do have hot tub owning neighbours but they're not out at the moment. They also listen to shit music too loudly.

MsFannySqueers · 17/07/2021 13:38

My sympathies OP. My neighbours mow and strim every single day! I don’t know what there is left to mow or strim in their garden.

HyacynthBucket · 17/07/2021 13:50

My next door neighbour, who has recently handbuilt an enormous shed to house his vast collection of the noisiest possible power tools, is currently out there using one of his three very loud mowers. He has already spent hours with his jet aircraft-like strimmer most of the morning. His 'garden' consists of just grass as any living thing gets blasted with hedge cutters, chain saws etc. The last time the sun shone he spent the entire afternoon jet washing his already pristine deck (built by him with power tools). This is a rural area with quite large gardens, but even so, the noise is so huge we can't sit out in our own garden without being deafened. So massive sympathies OP.

user1471538283 · 17/07/2021 13:51

I cannot stand inconsiderate neighbors. You must feel that you never get a break from it.

Even though I'm surrounded by more people in an apartment building it is quieter here than when I lived next to two god awful neighbors.

I agree that you should have the loudest party imaginable. But also turn the music off and go very quiet for ten minutes so he thinks it has stopped and then switch it right up again.

Sunbird24 · 17/07/2021 13:53

Mine have got a bouncy castle again, so of course they have to put their shit music on even louder to hear it over the generator. I’ve had to come and hide out in the front half of my house as it’s still audible either outside with noise-cancelling headphones on, or in the back of the house with all the doors and windows shut.
My house is in the middle of nowhere, it was lovely and quiet up until the point these moved in two years ago. Even the previous neighbours’ kids made loads less noise than this bunch. I spend as much time away from home as I can.

tenredthings · 17/07/2021 13:58

Sounds horrendous but try not to fall out with him over it. Our neighbour is a crazy narcissist but I regret having not just ignored her goady CF attention seeking behavior. If you can bear it just keep your headphones on and ignore. A bad relationship with your neighbour can really upset your life.
