Please can I just rant about my neighbour

Having moved to a rural position partly to escape a vile neighbour I have now got myself a neighbour who has more machinery than toolstation. Angle grinders, mini diggers, chain saws, professional standard strimmer and pressure washer with a huge petrol engine you name it he has it.

Just as summer starts he has decided to terrace his entire 2 acre garden himself with his mini digger. He has lived there 30 years and we have had the whole of fucking lockdown but no, he has to do it now.

The noise us horrendous. He has only done about 12 feet and he's on his shitting digger 8 hours a day. I can hear it in the house and of course in the garden where I would like to sit out at last. I have my headphones on full blast but can still hear the bastard thing.

I know there is nothing I can do so I am just ranting. What are your neighbours up to?

We have dog shit and dog piss! Drives me up the wall! They are quiet and in a Terrace that's a god send but we only have small gardens at the back. There is used as a toilet for 4 dogs. They chose it down daily but sometimes not until late so the smell of baked dog shite in the sun is just grim! I've mentioned is several times and they apologise but have lots of excuses. They're not a full shilling either which doesn't help

cleanasawhistle · 17/07/2021 14:03

My neighbour has had a barbeque very day through the week at 5pm.
No idea what he was burning but lots of thick smoke for half and hour each time........while my washing was still out.
Up to them but its annoying.

LovelyGirlCompetition · 17/07/2021 14:18

It's lovely here. Birds chirping. I can see a bouncy castle in the distance and hear the little ones laughing and playing. It's nice to hear.

Wallpapering · 17/07/2021 14:21

I just waiting for usual arsehole to have bonfire! Always one wanker who chooses this time of day in heat when washing out.

Will it be the wanker who burns rubber or the other wanker who uses shit load of lighter fluid to burn fucking rubbish

Ideasplease322 · 17/07/2021 14:22

In my last house I had this, a handy man on furlough! Tiny gardens, he used every power tool every day, the power hosed almost every evening. While playing the radio loud.

I was WFH and couldn’t open the windows.

I still feel rage when I think of him.

DSGBT · 17/07/2021 14:26

We are probably the worst ones in our street! It’s so quiet that it makes our noise worse. It’s only kids playing and gardening but we are the loudest.

Artus · 17/07/2021 14:27

Ours are building a giant pergola blocking out even more light from our already overlooked garden. (The site slopes so they are already above us). They will then paint it black to match their fences.

They will see black planks and probably fairy lights. Due to the angle we will see a solid black rectangle. Please god they don't put a hot tub on it. Our gardens are small and sound carries.

Bargebill19 · 17/07/2021 14:32

I live the cat fight on a phone from pp.
can I add that anyone wanting ‘revenge’ just start to learn to play the violin. Takes years and years of practice 😳 even better if you have a child wanting to learn. Who can say no to them??

PinniGig · 17/07/2021 14:36

I used to work 3-4 nights a week in a care home when the kids were little (12hr shifts) and if my Mum was watching the kids for me during the day I'd either bed down in her spare room or alternatively sleep in one of the empty rooms at work.

One nearby house had a dog that barked incessantly - literally all day, every day and it drove me to near distraction. I don't think people realise until they have experienced it how genuinely distressing that kind of noise is or how much it can really affect you mentally.

You do become acostomed to certain sounds and switch off over time though we live directly beneath a viaduct that has two trains pass over every hour. Never hear or register it because we've lived here so long but when the "Harry Potter" steam train service is running I hear it from the previous station four miles away.

That dog drove me aboslutely pots for rags. In the end someone else reported it to the council and I think the dog warden visited and the owners agreed to it being rehomed.

Sounds idyllic. I think in the distance is the key phrase here! Grin

Also we're a family of musicians and noisy sods generally but careful and conscious not to piss off neighbours. I drum on everything and anything all the time though, sometimes to the point of not even realising it. Waiting for the kettle to boil or the washer to finish its last spin and I'll start to tap out a beat to the rhythm, step on the spot and find an off beat or pick up pony carrots and give a bucket a good battering.

If someone else happens to walk in whilst I'm at it they counted it “You come in and pick up on 1,2,3,4 – WHOOOOOOOOO!!!”

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 17/07/2021 14:45

@memberofthewedding

My neighbours are vile entitled bastards but at least they are not noisy. Theyve played a few dirty tricks on me.

Sometimes I "entertain" them at 2-4 am with an app of cats fighting that I have on my phone - right under their bedroom window.

I dont have a cat but there are plenty in the neighbourhood! So it much have been someone elses cats.

You purposely wake up and go and stand under your neighbours window holding your phone whilst it plays an app?! Weird.

My neighbours are probably researching more ways to block our proposed planning application. Cunts.

Beetlebrooker · 17/07/2021 15:03

Oh neighbours can't do anything quietly, or in one go. So it takes them three days to mow their massive fuck off lawn or trim the hedge, in chunks - and they yell at each other over the sound of the mower/hedgecutter.

"WHAT ABOUT THAT BIT?"
"WHAAAAAAT?"
"I SAID WHAT ABOUT THAT BIT?"
"WHAAAAT?"

Ad infinitum. Add to that the slamming of the bin lids when putting rubbish out, and needlessly noisy sneezing with full vocal accompaniment, like the worst pantomime sneeze ever - "AAAAAATCHOOOOOO!!"

NotMyCat · 17/07/2021 15:03

@HyacynthBucket I think I have your neighbours relative opposite me. He seriously uses a strimmer for hours on end, daily. There's nothing left to strim! It's all razored to the ground

SunlessSea · 17/07/2021 15:08

@LaMadrilena I lived in Las Ventas, beside la Trenta. Noisiest place I ever lived too 😄

Purplecatshopaholic · 17/07/2021 15:11

Oh op i sympathise, that sounds brutal. We are v quiet here I am soooo glad to say. The neighbours with kids are all away (not that I mind kids playing in their gardens anyway), and it’s all breeze in the trees and birds tweeting.

Hen2018 · 17/07/2021 15:17

Man with dogs that barked all day long and who occasionally got “firmly” arrested outside our house has moved. Replaced by men who use tools but are no bother at all and you can see they are undoing years of damage by dog man.

Ignorant woman who shouts in her phone so loudly that her friends could probably hear her without needing to use the phone at all is moving out within weeks... she’s being replaced with a first time buyer couple so hope they are ok.

NoNameNoOne · 17/07/2021 15:20

Kids playing- all good our neighbours are brill ❤

I used to have DS friend over everyday and it quiet where live so it seemed louder, I used to call out random names when they needed telling off so surrounding neighbours thought had hoards of kids and it would sound like quite well behaved and not that noisy given imaginary other 20kids here
Gothichouse40 · 17/07/2021 15:23

Is there a fashion for people to cram as much stuff into gardens as possible? Re patio/jet washers, apparently decking can get very, very slippery. Hence all the washing. My previous neighbour told me this.

OnlyYellowRoses · 17/07/2021 15:24

I can hear birds, the waves on the pebbles on the beach nearby and the sound of the next door neighbours' little grandchildren giggling and playing in their pool. I love our NDN, they are genuinely lovely people and always have a little chat when passing. Their dog is the sweetest thing too Smile

We have two neighbours that literally hold conversations from opposite ends of the road. Rather than go to the other they just yell from wherever they are

"Hiya Sharon y'alright?!" (allow a few seconds for sound travel to Sharon)

"Yeah I'm very well thanks all the better for this lovely weather isn't it beautiful?" (several seconds of silence)

"Oooh yeah it is we can stand out here and have this discussion from opposite ends of the street right through til September if we're lucky!!"

"Hahaha omg yeah so true!!!"

You know what I do and only if forced? Hold up a hand to say hello or just give a big thumbs up as acknowledgement I've seen them and I'm not being rude but I'm not interested in the kids or what the weather is like.

The vast amounts of shits I couldn't give is staggering.

EleanorOlephantisjustfine · 17/07/2021 15:29

I think your post shows that we should sometimes be careful what we wish for. We have pain in the ass neighbours but we daren’t move in case we end up with something worse. I feel your pain.

Wallpapering · 17/07/2021 15:36

You can hear Pebbles on beach Onlyyelliwroses ? Do you have your own private or secret beach as when sun out anywhere round here where there is bit water and sand it’s backed like sardines and pet peeve loads think it ideal place to disposable bbq on the ground with little kids running about

Keepyourdistance000 · 17/07/2021 15:39

NDN was doing his twice yearly mowing/strimming this morning - went on for a good few hours and the fumes and smoke were drifting across our garden. His back garden still hasn't been done though and resembles a jungle.

Still, better than our previous nearby neighbour who had bonfires most summer weekends and evenings. They were toxic smelling and blew ash onto cars, into gardens etc. So bad we had to keep the doors and windows shut on stifling days. We eventually reported the neighbour to the council's environmental health office, she then came round kicking and banging our door, threatening us, denying they were her bonfires Confused ....the police were called and cautioned her but she remained vile and still the bonfires continued...too scared to take things further and I am so glad that DH's job relocation meant we had to move far away.
