I'm actually begging you to help me find a UK holiday!

Please help! After much faffing about and waiting in the hope of going abroad, with changing traffic lights and everything else we've finally given up and accepted there will be no lying by a pool and a UK holiday it is! However, unsurprisingly, there is basically nothing left!

I have been searching for about 4 hours and have pretty much lost all hope, can anybody help?

Requirements are:

  • We're in Cheshire, so up to about 4 hours from here, South Wales/Northumbria/East Anglia, those types of places. NOT Cornwall as we went there in June.
  • Me, DH, DC 10 & 8 + dog although he can be left with relatives
  • Budget up to £1000
  • All things considered, cottage, static caravan, exceptionally nice campsite
  • Things to do, I definitely do not want the only option to be 'a walk,' so not quiet, peaceful, away from it all type

Can anybody find anything, please?!

Holiday Inn express at Leith, Edinburgh. Fab place to stay and lots to see and do. Royal yacht Britannia is at Leith and very easy and quick to get buses into the city centre.

Northshire have availability for huts, it looks a lovely place I have always wanted to go! it's about 20 minutes from Whitby.

The one I looked at was 750 for 7 nights on the dates you were looking at.

unfortunately no dogs though :(

@beigebrownblue

No misery about me thanks. You should be ashamed of yourselves the lot of you.

Moaning to shite about not being able to find a place to go on holiday when others don't have a shite to eat.

Be ashamed.

You should be ashamed. Typing on a phone or laptop with internet access about first world problems whist there are homeless people with no shelter or warmth. I do hope with that attitude you give a significant amount of your wages to the poor and needy.

@TokyoSushi

I am quite tempted by Filey, and Tenby. Would definitely consider Scotland too, that's a good idea that they're back at school
Just remember no freedom day there all mask rules and social distancing is very much still in place in Scotland
applemartinis · 16/07/2021 00:54

For camping would recommend St Helens in the Park, Yorkshire, a lovely site and only a short walk to a great pub. It's available that week for £210 for 7 nights ...

Jumpingintosummer · 16/07/2021 01:09

The bay at Filey is lovely.

"Just remember no freedom day there all mask rules and social distancing is very much still in place in Scotland"

It was fine back in May. Yes, masks in certain places but we had a fantastic time.

Edinburgh didn't feel like there were restrictions at all really

BarbaraofSeville · 16/07/2021 04:08

The Isle of Man is indeed lovely but I'd be mindful that it is a separate country and could reimpose restrictions on UK leisure travelers if our covid situation continues to worsen.

I know everyone there is vaccinated, but they've been pretty draconian throughout the pandemic, in an effort to keep their residents safe and able to have a normal day to day life as possible, eg imprisoning people who bought petrol on the way home from the ferry port.

Filey and east Yorkshire coast is a good idea, I hope you can find something that suits your dates OP.

Have a look at the caravan parks near Blackpool.

I'm not a Blackpool fan but the parks inland give you access to Blackpool and you could also get to the lakes or the Forrest of Bowland and Preston if you fancy a day shopping.

Lots allow dogs and have club houses / bars.

Blackpool itself obviously has lots to keep you busy including a zoo but around there is an animal park, orchards, and a winetasting 'school' www.thelancashirewineschool.com/catlist.php?cat=2

TokyoSushi · 16/07/2021 07:21

Wow, thanks so much the very vast majority of you, loads and loads of helpful suggestions.

I think I've decided on the Filey/Whitby area but you've all massively helped to narrow that down.

Hurrah for the Mumsnet travel agency!

@TokyoSushi we've been all over Filey in our tent. We've now upgraded to a router, but the facilities are all the same. We're staying at a place called Orchard Farm near Filey in August, paying £170 for 8 nights with electric. Tents would probably be cheaper. We've also stayed at Haven Blue Dolphin, Haven Thornwick Bay. Then there's Flower of May, Crows Nest. I've not stayed in Whitby but there's lots of independent sites if you search on google. Good luck.

dancealittleclosertome · 16/07/2021 07:39

Thank you @lollipopsandrainbows for the info re Bempton Cliffs. Will check out how to get there!

TokyoSushi · 16/07/2021 08:07

Really helpful @lolipopsandrainbows thank you!

What about Scotland? Dumfries and Galloway, North Berwick (easy train into Edinburgh) - both really great places for a holiday with lovely beaches and plenty to do. There are some good facebook pages 'last minute holiday cottages' etc where you can ask and owners reply if they have had cancellations.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 16/07/2021 09:08

I’d do Anglesey. Literally so much to do dog friendly and less than 2 hours with no traffic.

Small but 4 nights here would only be £600 and you’re near one of the best beaches going.

I’d then extend the hol by doing a night in a hotel in conwy or llandudno and taking the kids to surf snowdonia or bounce below for an activity day

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/07/2021 09:13

Have you looked at Ready Camp? Lots of sites, very reasonable price and we’ve always been pleasantly surprised at the locations.

VikingsandDragons · 16/07/2021 09:18

Absolutely loads of availability and cheap on travelodge. We went with accepting it wasn't the most exciting accommodation but it was the area we wanted and for £240 for 8 nights we couldn't complain and we've booked great days out and top quality meals for every evening.

MissCalamity · 16/07/2021 10:20

We've just booked 4 nights in a hotel on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Bargain at £420 b&b family room (which allows dogs!)

As the Scottish children go back to school that week w/c 16th August it's definitely worth looking into Scotland!

CherryPieface · 16/07/2021 11:52

No ‘freedom day’ in Scotland can also be seen as a positive. Masks on public transport etc - happy with that approach,

MaMelon · 16/07/2021 11:56

Agree @CherryPieface

LuxOlente · 16/07/2021 12:54

What happens when you go on holidaycottages.com and search for "England" and 4 people? I mean, there's hundreds of results. Most will have a town or city nearby. Then you can go on daysoutwiththekids.com and figure an itinerary from there.
