I'm actually begging you to help me find a UK holiday!

Please help! After much faffing about and waiting in the hope of going abroad, with changing traffic lights and everything else we've finally given up and accepted there will be no lying by a pool and a UK holiday it is! However, unsurprisingly, there is basically nothing left!

I have been searching for about 4 hours and have pretty much lost all hope, can anybody help?

Requirements are:

  • We're in Cheshire, so up to about 4 hours from here, South Wales/Northumbria/East Anglia, those types of places. NOT Cornwall as we went there in June.
  • Me, DH, DC 10 & 8 + dog although he can be left with relatives
  • Budget up to £1000
  • All things considered, cottage, static caravan, exceptionally nice campsite
  • Things to do, I definitely do not want the only option to be 'a walk,' so not quiet, peaceful, away from it all type

Can anybody find anything, please?!

I was in the same boat and enlisted some help

I found a local counsellor and within a day we were sorted x

We're currently in Scarborough and there's tons to do here if you can find availability. We are in the premier Inn as I don't think you can go wrong with them.

In a fortnight we are staying near Beverley in East Yorkshire in a lodge with a hot tub. Booked through Hoseasons, looks lovely with five star reviews on trip advisor. It's only for three nights so we've (well me, not we, I'm the family travel agent) tagged a couple of nights in a posh city hotel on to it.

A couple of weeks after that we are staying in a nice hotel in Glasgow as we all love it there.

@dancealittleclosertome I'm going to Filey in August too - my 3rd visit this year. I lived in Flamborough as a child, but the puffins are at Bempton cliffs. Despite living there for 8 years though, I've frustratingly never seen a dolphin (sad face).

In terms of an area to explore OP, you can't go wrong with Filey.

If you’re planning to come up north, St Andrew’s is a good base - lovely seaside town with lots to do in the area. The East Neuk has lovely old fishing villages to nosy about in and Edinburgh is within driving distance (or there’s a direct bus or train from Leuchars six miles away that goes along the coast and into Edinburgh).

uktrippin · 15/07/2021 22:14

Loads to do in Scotland. Look at Loch Lomond area - Callander, Stirling.

Blair Drummond safari
Activities at Crieff hydro although the hotel is probably booked up.
Stirling castle
The Kelpies
Glasgow

[quote Eleoura]I was going to suggest Norfolk, Suffolk or North Essex.

We stayed in one of these recently. Should have been in Greece but we were very pleasantly surprised.

HugeBowlofChips · 15/07/2021 22:15

London?

Signoramarella · 15/07/2021 22:16

Sizewell in Suffolk or Dunwich beach. Just booked camping there through pitchup.

greyinganddecaying · 15/07/2021 22:18

There are some decent deals on travelodges/premier inns up Durham way over August - you could use them as a base & visit Northumberland, Durham, Alnwick, etc.

RoseMartha · 15/07/2021 22:19

I got a fri-mon break with parkdean holidays only booked last week for august.

They have various locations over the country

www.parkdeanresorts.co.uk/book-your-holiday/choose-your-accommodation/?schKey=91&product=300&holiday-area=10%7C62&holiday-month=2022%7C8&holiday-nights=4&holiday-dates=2022-08-22&holiday-pets=0

this is for four nights, goes up to just over £1000 for seven. loads for the kids to do (think it's parkdeans biggest site), right on the beach, and quite a lot to do in the general south wales area.

@TokyoSushi

I'm currently on holiday in Filey;I got a last minute deal here via hoseasons.

Honestly Filey is such a lovely place especially for kids.

BashStreet1 · 15/07/2021 22:24

Q hotels are doing a good offer called the Great British Breakaway- £215 for a 2 night stay - including 2 adults, 2 kids, dinner the first night, breakfast each day and wine in yr room.

Some stunning hotels in great locations.

You could do that then head off somewhere else for the remaining 5 nights?

JetBlackSteed · 15/07/2021 22:27

Fly to Scotland or belfast? Plenty of options there?

drspouse · 15/07/2021 22:28

I'm messaging you a lovely campsite. Lots to do in the area.

Evenstar · 15/07/2021 22:29

Look up Winterton Cottages and Pack Holidays, we have 3 dogs and have rented some lovely properties. They have no availability but I have noticed cancellations coming up quite a lot, probably due to people self isolating etc so keep checking.

Hyacinth88 · 15/07/2021 22:30

I would head to South West Scotland. Schools there go back on the 19th and I'm sure the rest of. Scotland is similar so will be quieter out and about.

21Bee · 15/07/2021 22:32

My suggestion is Abersoch. There are a few available like www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/50254015?adults=2&children=2&check_in=2021-08-21&check_out=2021-08-28&source_impression_id=p3_1626384582_U2qbCSWre%2Bcp0Nrb&guests=1

Beach access, has a pool and allows dogs.

BashStreet1 · 15/07/2021 22:34

Play, stay, explore breaks are good for active kids as they include the hotel and free attraction tickets.

We stayed at Combe abbey nr Coventry and went to a water park thing, climbing wall and air museum and the hotel was absolutely gorgeous. Just looked and they have a 3 night B&B break with tickets to 3 attractions for £299 total arriving on the Sunday - but you can do shorter or longer.

BashStreet1 · 15/07/2021 22:36

Oh and another vote for Abersoch!

Oldowl · 15/07/2021 22:42

Back in 2016 we had a great holiday (recommended by mumsnet) with a company called 'Real Family Holidays'. The company name no longer exists but the holidays do:

www.field-studies-council.org/stay-with-us/

You stay in amazing locations. We stayed in Dale Fort (yes an actual Fort) in Pembrokeshire. All our meals were included and an activity each day.

AvocadoPlant · 15/07/2021 22:43

This is slightly more but it’s full board and most activities are free
