Where do adults go to have their ears pierced?

Or anyone for that matter? The only place I now of locally is Claire's and I understand that's not recommended.

Can you even have your ears pierced atm, actually?

I had mine done in an independent jewellers shop when I was a teenager, but I don't think those kinds of places do it anymore? I took my earrings out when DC were babies and pulling at them and never put them back in. 20 years later the holes are well and truly healed, although you can still see where they were, and I have a new, sharp, short haircut that's crying out for some statement earrings.

Where do you go?

Local tattoo parlour

Always28 · 14/07/2021 20:16

My sister just had some extra holes done at a tattoo parlour. It wasn’t cheap but they did a very good job.

ShowOfHands · 14/07/2021 20:16

Piercing studio. We have a few locally, some of them are also tattoo parlours.

Look for piercing studios. The type of places that do the weird piercings! They'll do ears too. There's a chain called Blue Banana that sells alternative clothes and has piercing studios. Tattoo places often have piercers too.

careerchangeperhaps · 14/07/2021 20:17

Tattoo parlour or piercing studio.

Cooldryplace · 14/07/2021 20:17

Oh. I'd feel very out of place walking into a tattoo parlour Grin

Some hairdressers do them.

Codoftherings · 14/07/2021 20:18

Just google piercing shops in your area, a lot of tattoo parlours also do piercing x

dementedpixie · 14/07/2021 20:18

Tattoo place that has a piercer. I got 2 of my closed up holes in my lobes repierced. They use a needle. My earrings have a little ball at the back rather than a butterfly back

NameChanged15729 · 14/07/2021 20:19

Usually tattoo studios will have a dedicated piercer who will do a wide range of piercings, not just the lobes and maybe helix like Claire’s. I’ve never known any to use a piercing gun in these places either which is great!
I’d have a look around your towns tattoo studios and see which ones have the best reviews. Most are doing piercings now but a few are specifying none under the mask.

Why? They arent full of burly blokes covered in tattoos
Bagelsandbrie · 14/07/2021 20:19

Tattoo studio with a good body piercer. Don’t get it done with a gun. You want someone to use a needle.

Candlecandlesss · 14/07/2021 20:19

Piercing/tattoo shop definitely.

Daisy829 · 14/07/2021 20:20

Beauty places often do them…the types of places that do eyebrows etc. Also I believe accessorise does them or some jewellery stores do.

Cooldryplace · 14/07/2021 20:21

I don't know. There's one within walking distance of here, in a parade of shops with the offy and fried chicken shops. Shutters over the windows at all times. It just doesn't look very friendly.

Local piercing studio. Took teen dd to have her ears pierced recently, now want my second set of lobe holes redone. Much cleaner and better as they use a sterile needle and have proper training rather than a teenager in a hairdressers or Claire’s.

prampushingdownthehighst · 14/07/2021 20:21

What wrong with Claires?
Had some extra holes done a few weeks ago and not had any problems

NotMyCat · 14/07/2021 20:22

@prampushingdownthehighst it's not using a sharp needle, the gun can't be cleaned properly, they have little training, it's expensive...

dementedpixie · 14/07/2021 20:23

They arent properly trained in Claires and they use a piercing gun rather than a needle

NotMyCat · 14/07/2021 20:23

And yes to tattoo shop/piercer
We had a fab one nearby, I had my lip pierced there. She would say big breath in, and out, and as you breathed out she would do the piercing. Barely hurt

Look around for a different one then if that one doesn't look inviting
BertieBotts · 14/07/2021 20:24

Ask around for recommendations? Plenty of people have tattoos these days, not only bikers/metalheads :) I've always found piercing places are more friendly than they seem.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 14/07/2021 20:25

Local tattoo/piercing place. The guy I see is all tattooed up and is always very pleasant and I don't feel out of place at all (48yr woman).

Grainjar · 14/07/2021 20:27

One of the jewellers does it here.
