Tell me about your weird phobias

I have two that I think are fairly rare:

  1. if I look at (or think about) intricate things with pointy bits on, like for example a circuit board or the ends of a fork, I imagine the pointy bits going into my eyes I and I mentally kind of curl in on myself
  2. I can’t stand anyone one touching me in the middle of my chest and will freak out if it happens.

There’s no rhyme or reason to either of these as far as I know. I’ve never had an accident or traumatic experience involving either these areas - just odd I guess?
Do you have any odd phobias?

@Paripale I do the with people too! Weird imaginary scenarios where I do something awful.

I also imagine I've suddenly puked on people, can you imagine?!

wheresmyhairytoe · 10/07/2021 22:38

Moving bridges, the ones that lift up or swing open to let boats past.

Seeing them open makes me clammy and feel sick.

Bebeschitt · 10/07/2021 22:38

@StorminaBcup yes! Velvet or velour 🤢
Nope. Gives me the gag just thinking about it. Those velour tracksuits people wear? They make my skin prickly.

snowballer · 10/07/2021 22:40

@MonkeyPuddle

OMG don't post those photos!! Whilst it's not recognised as a "real" phobia, Trypophobia induces a very real physical sickness in lots of people. Urgh - I feel all clammy now...

Paripale · 10/07/2021 22:40

Anyone else find 70’s string art pictures utterly repellent ? I remember one of a Penny Farthing from when I was a child … so creepy I get dizzy looking at them ( DH had to add the link!)

@GinWithLime

Cotton wool balls

I hear ya, I also hear the cotton wool squeaking away.

GertrudeKerfuffle · 10/07/2021 22:41

I get upset if I think about biting a towel and how it would squeak on my teeth Blush I've never actually bitten a towel and don't ever intend to, but the thought just pops in my head and then I have to lick my teeth to remind myself that there is not actually a towel in my mouth BlushBlush

Monkey puzzle trees. I hate them. Their knobbly trunks. Those dark spiky leaves (or whatever they are). The fact that the branches start about two thirds up the trunk makes me feel dizzy and sort of acrophobic by proxy!

Not quite in the same league as monkey puzzle tree fear, but I can't bear to see people wearing their masks under their noses. They might as well be waving their private parts about the place. They look all exposed and wrong. It honestly makes me feel nauseous.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 10/07/2021 22:43

I have trypophobia

Sunny4876 · 10/07/2021 22:43

Being picked up,think that's why I stay obese Hmm

GertrudeKerfuffle · 10/07/2021 22:44

Oh and I hate the inner part of my elbow being touched, which is a problem if I ever have blood taken. It's not so much the blood being taken but after, when they want to stick a plaster on the puncture and I have to persuade them that no, I'm fine without a plaster without sounding completely unhinged by saying that I'd rather bleed to death than have to peel the plaster off Shock

Paripale · 10/07/2021 22:48

Pandemic - I’m glad I’m not the only one- although I guess no one could blame you if you were actually sick … with my intrusive thoughts the action is always a purposeful one that couldn’t be misconstrued as an accident😩

@DotBall

Bellybuttons - can’t even look at them, let alone touch my own, and when DH digs out his fluff 🙈
@DotBall

I have the same. I get really queasy if I accidentally spot a pierced one 🤢 ... or an outie

First week after DS was born was a struggle for me for completely the wrong reason: His umbilical cord 😳

ItsVousNotMoi · 10/07/2021 22:52

@Paripale

Spunbodge - if I’m having a lovely conversation with a friend over a coffee, I often get an odd self sabotaging thought about what would happen if I were to throw their drink over them or slap them. I imagine their face changing from friendly and happy to shocked, confused and then finally angry! I don’t know where on earth it comes from (and of course I’d never act on it) but it’s very distracting and annoying!
Me too! It's odd but we can't be the only ones!😊
Rosebud1302 · 10/07/2021 22:53

Velvet. Oh my god the look, feel. Imagining it touching me 🤢. Rubbing hands/feet on carpet makes me feel sick. Sweeping brooms on pavement aahhhh. Why am I talking about them it's making me go all funny 🤣🤣

Rosegoldfan · 10/07/2021 22:55

Parquet flooring or Herringbone. I can't look at it.

isthisouting · 10/07/2021 23:23

Someone bouncing on my feet on a bouncy castle.

TheBestForLast · 10/07/2021 23:42

The thought of an empty swimming pool creeps me out. I have a quick look underwater when I have goggles on because I make myself but I find it so weird. Same with snorkelling on holiday, I have to do it though just to prove I can. But I couldn't go into a swimming baths with no water in the pool and look at it. I can't even look at photos, seriously freaks me out.

Holothane · 10/07/2021 23:43

Funny looking mould moss on trees it makes feel awful.

Fckingfuming · 11/07/2021 00:03

@TheBestForLast talking about swimming pools I used to be scared of a pool I went to as a child, there was a huge octopus picture tiled to the pool floor, so opening my eyes underwater was a complete no-no. I can't physically stomach large sculptures or pictures underwater.

Worldwide2 · 11/07/2021 07:51

Wet wool like clothes from the wash. A cotton jumper it literally sets my teeth on edge and my fingers recoil. I just imagine the material squeaking not that it does. Gives me shudders just thinking about it.

Mummyneedsacoffee · 11/07/2021 08:22

Buttons! Blush
