Tell me about your weird phobias

I have two that I think are fairly rare:

  1. if I look at (or think about) intricate things with pointy bits on, like for example a circuit board or the ends of a fork, I imagine the pointy bits going into my eyes I and I mentally kind of curl in on myself
  2. I can’t stand anyone one touching me in the middle of my chest and will freak out if it happens.

There’s no rhyme or reason to either of these as far as I know. I’ve never had an accident or traumatic experience involving either these areas - just odd I guess?
Do you have any odd phobias?

Deep never ending water eg the ocean. Button's. And ripping paper. The paper one makes my teeth feel strange and like a crampy thing in my throat/neck can't stand it. Oh and wet food can't touch wet food

Fish - it's the smooth or jerky unpredictable movements
Balloons - connected to a specific traumatic incident I experienced, seeing one takes me straight back and gives me a feeling of panic

Thirstquenching · 10/07/2021 22:04

Butterflies

Missreginafalange · 10/07/2021 22:04

Peas

Holothane · 10/07/2021 22:05

Balloon squeaking or poped.

AdditionalCharacter · 10/07/2021 22:08

Having things on or in my body that shouldn't be there (apart from clothing). The very thought of contact lenses freaks me out. Cant even wear nail varnish or make up without feeling like I can't breathe.

I know exactly what you mean. I've always felt nauseous if touched the bones there. It makes me want to hit them. Horrible feeling.

I even feel sick if I see someone with a bony chest.

Paripale · 10/07/2021 22:12

Decorchange- I know what you mean. I freak out when I think about really deep bodies of water like the Mariana Trench. I watched most of The life of Pi and Titanic from behind my fingers!

I’m the same about deep water. Even the deep end in swimming pools get me anxious 😥

Duckypoohs · 10/07/2021 22:15

Trypophobia, although tbh doesn't have the same reaction now, I just really don't care.

I sometimes hatewatch those daredevil/parkour videos where they do crazy stunts and it really makes my feet tingle like crazy, don't know if that's a common reaction.

Mumtotoomanykids · 10/07/2021 22:18

Tin foil-it makes me feel sick and I turn in on my myself mentally

Blood-or any other bodily fluids (shudders)

Ghosts

JorisBonson · 10/07/2021 22:19

Crabs! (The seaside kind). For no reason whatsoever.

Paripale · 10/07/2021 22:19

DS1 who has ASD can’t stand the sound of sharpies on paper. He also can’t stand people chewing things/mouth sounds which is hard as DS2 (who also has ASD) mouths everything: pens/ bottle tops/ clothing etc.

Velvet - hate it. Especially when it’s been rubbed the wrong way.

And similar as PP’s about large bodies of water - especially those photos of blue whales and a single diver that accentuates differences in size.

Bargebill19 · 10/07/2021 22:22

Bed and carpet shops. It has taken me 21 years to overcome the panic I feel at seeing the bottom of boats in dry dock or bank side.

Pandora84 · 10/07/2021 22:22

The feel and sound of wet cotton wool balls and the thought of chewing wool - Really puts me on edge Grin

cheesepizza22 · 10/07/2021 22:23

Sea creatures, snails and creepy crawlers. I was physically sick on a school trip to a bug park because it was just horrendous. Never forgave my DM for making me go even though it was 15 years ago!

GordonsAlive85 · 10/07/2021 22:25

Green washing up liquid, hate the smell and the way of congeals around the top of the bottle

Paripale · 10/07/2021 22:25

I don’t like the way cotton wool balls squeak! there’s a scene in the Movie Elf where buddy puts a cotton wall ball in his mouth and I can just imagine it squeaking against his teeth …. Eurgh! Great movie otherwise though!

Pandora84 · 10/07/2021 22:28

That's exactly it!! I'm shuddering just thinking about it now ha!

BaublesAndGlitter · 10/07/2021 22:29

OP does it help to know that cotton balls in elf were actually candy floss that hadn't been dyed?

For me the phobia is Ladybirds - no rhyme or reason but they make me feel panicky and go into fight or flight mode - my response is flight and I have made a complete tit of myself more than once by running away / panicking Blush When they're still they're bad but when they fly I feel physically sick.

Not a phobia but something that makes my stomach turn is touching feet. Doesn't have to be mine (although if it is there is a big chance I'll kick you), but seeing someone else touch their own feet makes me feel tense and uncomfortable.

AnaViaSalamanca · 10/07/2021 22:32

Insects, including butterflies
Food that has bones (am mostly vegetarian)
Whipped cream
Seeing anyone grooming (cutting fingernails etc) or putting on makeup

PandemicPalava · 10/07/2021 22:33

Toothpaste and teeth cleaning. Obviously I do it but yuck. I have to read while cleaning my teeth to distract myself

MonkeyPuddle · 10/07/2021 22:35

Lotus seed pods.

Ugh.

Tell me about your weird phobias
Paripale · 10/07/2021 22:35

Oh yes Baubles that definitely helps! ( Elf candy floss). Re your ladybird phobia I was once in a garden with a friend as a child when we spotted first one, the two, then literally hundreds of ladybirds all around us. It was like something out of a Hitchcock movie and really unsettling! 😱
