Hi everyone
Please can you help me decide on baby name Otis?? I keep going on and off it but my 3.5 year old is adomant his name should be Otis! Also thinking about Tommy. I’m 37 weeks pregnant.
What’s your thoughts?

It's lovely.

Returnoftheowl · 10/07/2021 13:16

I think how you feel about it is the main thing.

The first thing I think of is Otis the Aardvark from children's TV... But that is only going to be people of my age (mid 30s) that remember that.

What you think is the most important thing. Does it go with your last name? Do you have any other names in the running? All things to consider.

DerisorySnort · 10/07/2021 13:18

I think Otis is lovely.

I'm less keen on Tommy. Smile

I had an Otis in my class, he was and is still a lovely little lad. I like it.

HoldingTheDoor · 10/07/2021 13:19

I love it.

Howshouldibehave · 10/07/2021 13:21

Love it, but my first thought was Sex Education! Watch that first if you haven’t already.

AliasGrape · 10/07/2021 13:24

I taught one a few years back and he was lovely.

I also know a woman with a young Otis and from what I’ve seen he’s a very cool and gorgeous wee dude.

So positive associations for me and I like it

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 10/07/2021 13:26

Otis is a brilliant name, I totally agree with your 3.5yr old!

I do really like Tommy as a nn for Tomos or Thomas, but it's a bit babyish as a full name for an adult, in my opinion.

Thadhiya · 10/07/2021 13:47

I mean, toddlers aren't known for their consistent decisions. It doesn't matter what a child thinks, it matters what you think.

Not a fan, really. It has hissy, tinny sounds. Tommy is just a bland nickname, rubbish when you're an adult and you have to go around at work sounding over-familiar and too casual. Thomas is a classic name.

Jonesyles · 10/07/2021 13:48

Full name would be Otis William Birkinshaw.

CallmeHendricks · 10/07/2021 13:50

I'd put the William first.
And Thomas or Tom is lovely, but not keen on Tommy at all.

Jonesyles · 10/07/2021 13:50

Thanks for all your comments

Definitely Otis over Tommy, although if he was Thomas with nn Tommy that wouldn't be so bad. Tommy is only a nickname though IMO, Otis works really well for all ages I think and is quite unusual without being out there.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/07/2021 13:55

I do think of Otis the Aardvark, but I still
Love the name. And the only Otis I've met is really cute.

Newmummy39 · 10/07/2021 13:56

My nephew is 5 years old and called Otis. We were all a bit unsure when my sister told us, but now we can't seem him as anything else. It's a fab name. Go for it!

EssentialHummus · 10/07/2021 14:03

I really like it with your full name.

RosieLeaLovesTea · 10/07/2021 14:41

We liked Otis for our little boy.

GreyhoundG1rl · 10/07/2021 14:42

Guess I'm alone in thinking it's terrible...

Emanchego · 10/07/2021 14:43

Do you live in the Deep South?

DerisorySnort · 10/07/2021 15:07

Otis William Birkinshaw is an excellent name!

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 10/07/2021 15:11

It’s a nice name. There will always be a mouthpiece around to tell you how much they hate it or make snarky comments whatever the name .

Jonesyles · 10/07/2021 15:15

Well it’s not everyone’s cup of tea!
No I’m from Yorkshire 😁
