Thank goodness for that.

At least it spares the family a full trial.

I hope the sentence is a whole life tariff.

I can’t fathom why his wife would want to speak to the press. Let alone the fail. Surely she wants to minimise any exposure for her DC?

Perhaps she was being hounded to do so or she wanted to make it clear she wasn't involved?

MotionActivatedDog · 09/07/2021 18:58

I’m sure she has reasons. I just can’t imagine any of them being enough for me to speak to the press under these circumstances. I’d want my DC as far away from it all as possible to stand any chance of a normal life.

To get the message out that she wasn’t involved, that she didn’t know anything, she’s innocent, the kids are innocent and they’re trying to get on with their lives.

Probably choose the Mail for the reach and maybe also for the cheque.

People will know she wasn’t involved. She isn’t facing any charges. And the kids. Why on earth would anyone think the kids weren’t innocent? Confused

People gossip and do the whole “She was arrested and bailed. No smoke without fire. She must have know something, she was living with him…” Yada yada.

She’s fronting it out and giving her side of the story in the hope the DC won’t be stigmatised.

Obviously the children are innocent, but you wouldn’t know it to see how some people react to these things.

Unfortunately I think that ship has sailed.

MotionActivatedDog · 09/07/2021 19:08

Well speaking to the press won’t help their chances!

coulditbecominghome · 09/07/2021 19:09

To clarify I mean that the dc can't really escape it because how do you reconcile that but hopefully they will have as normal as possible.

I agree with @RickiTarr people do judge & stigmatise.

RickiTarr · 09/07/2021 19:11

Earlier I could remember that she was European and vaguely thought I recalled she was Austrian, but wasn’t sure.

Now I see she is Ukrainian, and given the issues there, I can see she might not find the Ukraine an attractive Plan B for herself & the DC.

Well I read the link & just felt incredibly sorry for them. She probably feels some guilt (wrongly) & wanted to publicly express her sorrow for Sarah. I can't judge cause I have no idea what it's like in that position.

I think it might. It won’t make it worse.

I know someone who lost someone in the Clutha helicopter crash and they were absolutely hounded by the press.

In the end they spoke to one publication because as soon as they did there was no value in their words anymore so they were pretty much left alone by the rest.

I can see why the wife would resort to that. And to have something in black and white saying “I didn’t know” that will crop up when the children inevitably Google it in years to come.

CovidCorvid · 09/07/2021 19:20

She may well need the money now she’s lost his income.

I assume he will no longer be entitled to his police pension.

NorthernChinchilla · 09/07/2021 19:47

Only if it can be demonstrated that the offending was related to his role as an officer

CityCommuter · 09/07/2021 19:51

I think the death penalty should be reinstated in Britain for these horrendously evil crimes. The only thing good enough for him is either hanging or the electric chair where he could suffer, a lethal injection is too easy... Some US States still use capital punishment and for good reason. This is the one time that I agree with countries such as China, USA and United Arab Emirates. They get rid of scum like this and don't waste money by keeping them in prison.

RIP Sarah xx

I wouldn’t execute anyone if it meant risking another Derek Bentley or Timothy Evans.

Life in prison as a copper will be quite terrible enough for the little shit. Worse than euthanising him, even. Hopefully he will get a whole life tariff.

Killing him would be a mercy. He doesn’t deserve that.

Everytime my ex is arrested the harassment against our children and myself picks up we are past victims of him but people still have a like father like son attitude
CityCommuter · 09/07/2021 19:59

@RickiTarr I'm not convinced that life in prison for him will be difficult as for starters he will be kept in isolation from other prisoners to prevent him being attacked. Also, he'll be constantly monitored / on suicide watch. He'll be able to study, have hobbies etc and basically make demands and be given them due to his vulnerable 'mental health'. How on earth is that punishment?

MotionActivatedDog · 09/07/2021 20:01

Sorry to hear that. Do you think speaking to the press would help quell that?

coulditbecominghome · 09/07/2021 20:05

@MotionActivatedDog why do you think it was so unhelpful to take to the press?

coulditbecominghome · 09/07/2021 20:06

@Theunamedcat people really are stupid unfortunately.

I think it’s keeping her and the DC in the public eye when the children should be kept away from it. Their classmates’ parents will be discussing their mother and what she said and the kids in school will be saying things. More than they already will be with the guilty plea today. I just don’t think it’s fair on the children. Take the limelight off them, not on them.

MotionActivatedDog · 09/07/2021 20:09

If she had no kids I’d say different.
