Thank goodness for that.

At least it spares the family a full trial.

I hope the sentence is a whole life tariff.

[quote Maybeitsme5]He was linked to an indecent exposure way back in 2015, in Kent.

Yes I just saw this too Sad.

I worry that the pursuit of the officers who shared the meme will ultimately become the focus, and not the institutional police disinterest in women’s safety.

Armed officers have different vetting processed to those working in armed diplomatic protection: the latter is more robust. It’s easier to renew clearance than start from scratch, as you need DV, which probably made his selection more administratively straight forward. It is highly intrusive, but the emphasis is on finding potential security weaknesses (financial concerns or political connections that may render someone vulnerable to outside influence). Psych evaluations are looking for candidates who may have PTSD, or underlying broad mental health issues that may render them unsafe around a firearm specifically. The criminal background check is the same as SC. Police vetting is a joke: open source intel, and CRB.

LadyEloise · 09/07/2021 15:38

@ScouseQueen - you write "....Many other attacks on women were reported in the months before Sarah's abduction in the same area, on the same road even. Has that pattern of attacks now decreased ?...."

I do hope so.

RickiTarr · 09/07/2021 15:56

@JustLyra

I think the lack of information suggests there's a lot more to come out about this creature.

Nobody goes from law-abiding policeman to flasher, to murderer in a week. There's almost guaranteed to be things he is responsible for that we don't know yet.

It’s a sickening thought, but I don’t see how it can be otherwise. September will probably bring some horrific details.

DV? Developed vetting? Bloody hell. Shock

I thought there was a psychological element to it.

I agree.
Don’t they start small and then get bigger.
I bet the prostitutes have some horrible stories to tell about him but they were probably too scared to come forward knowing the power he had as a police officer.

Laaaaa · 09/07/2021 17:21

Wtf I've just seen on Twitter that the wife has spoke to the mail

toocold54 · 09/07/2021 17:27

Id be really interested to hear the wife’s side! Although if the daily Mail said it it might be fake.

There weren't many attacks, and compared to other parts of London the number is very low. That's not to diminish the impact of what happened n the cases that did occur and I have every sympathy with the victims.

But it's not and was not a hotspot. People were looking for patterns (it's a strong human instinct) but they weren't seeing the wider picture.

Might he have been responsible for other stranger attacks? We don't know.

Was the area notorious? No
Was it a bit sketchy? Yes - muggings

Should it be ok to walk home mid-evening and expect to be safe? Hell yes

On daily mail online now.
coulditbecominghome · 09/07/2021 17:44

I agree with pps that's is bizarre for someone to escalate from flashing to rape & murder particularly so quickly.

Maybeitsme5 · 09/07/2021 17:48

I've just read snippets of his wife's interview, I'm surprised. I was expecting it to come out that he'd been abusive within his family or at the very least domineering.

No red flags at all apparently.

Frownette · 09/07/2021 17:51

I suspect he had quite an intense inner fantasy life

I was surprised too but I then I wonder if there is an element of him getting all his nasty thrills with vulnerable women and indecent exposure and possible other sexual assaults or murders then he doesn’t need to express any of that at home. He can be mr nice and normal in his day to day life because that urge to abuse is being satisfied elsewhere?
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/07/2021 18:02

Sonia Sutcliffe won a libel action against Private Eye when they made a remark that suggested she couldn't possibly have been unaware of what her husband was up to. She must have satisfied the court that she was indeed totally in the dark until he was arrested. So it can happen.

Maybeitsme5 · 09/07/2021 18:06

A previous friend of Wayne couzens (identity hidden) has just been giving an interview on itv news about how he had an inappropriate relationship with a girl of about 14, when he was in his 20's.

Or shady/criminal RL away from home?

Wayne couzens did?

Frownette · 09/07/2021 18:10

Probably both! It's scary, we don't know who we walk amongst. Thankfully it's rare. Won't bring her back though

MotionActivatedDog · 09/07/2021 18:10

And his friend knew and did nothing? No wonder he hid his identity Hmm

Yes Wayne Couzens did, according to the friend.

I agree.

If it's true then the friend is a cunt for watching and saying nothing.

Wizzbangfizz · 09/07/2021 18:23

His wife is in the daily fail saying she had no idea, he occasionally suffered from depression and she is back in the house and kids are back at the same school?!

I hope the bastard rots in hell.

MotionActivatedDog · 09/07/2021 18:30

I can’t fathom why his wife would want to speak to the press. Let alone the fail. Surely she wants to minimise any exposure for her DC?

Maybeitsme5 · 09/07/2021 18:35

Another old friend giving an interview about him

www.google.com/amp/s/www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/killer-cop-wayne-couzens-cold-24496172.amp

He may or may not be the same one featured on itv news with his identity hidden.

MotionActivatedDog · 09/07/2021 18:52

I don’t think it is the same friend as the second guy says Wayne left school and he never had anything to do with him so he wouldn’t have known he was dating a 14 year old in his 20’s.
