Just marvelling at my soda stream. We used to buy SO much sparkling water the amount of plastic was dreadful. I'm so glad I bought it! has really made life better.

Also my quartz worktops.... was a splurge but bloody hell my kitchen is a beautiful place to be now. I can't stop looking at them!

I found the sodastream syrups weren't very nice but I filter my water with a brita jug and it tastes like fizzy mineral water now.
It's also fine to add squash to it and much cheaper than the syrups.

Mine are
dog adoption fee
Kitchen aid
£70 to match, 9 years ago

LightasaBreeze · 05/07/2021 18:15

Our caravan, especially this past year when booking in the UK has been more difficult to get a reasonably priced holiday. We have been able to go away loads in our caravan and booked pretty much where we wanted

RamItBunty · 05/07/2021 18:17

Pure cashmere throw. I’ve used it on planes, for the kids, as a baby blanket. As a huge pashmina. It folds down small is portable. Love it

Expensive kitchen with gadgets. I cook a lot makes it a happy place to be

Bliss silk pillow cases, silk eye mask and silk scrunchie. I swear i sleep better. Probably placebo But it works

LittleMissnotLittleMrs · 05/07/2021 18:19

Critical illness cover. It paid out so paid off the mortgage & updated bathroom to boot

user153678768 · 05/07/2021 18:21

@applesandpears33 love to know which travel sickness pills you have for the kids. I think this is one thing that could be pretty life changing for us. I asked our GP but he only prescribed some antihistamines for our younger one and said there isn't really anything specific for travel sickness.

DinosaurDiana · 05/07/2021 18:21

My dog 😍

Dacquoise · 05/07/2021 18:22

A barrister to give my ex husband a thorough hammering at final hearing for financials relating to our divorce. He came up with a complete fairy story of manipulation to try to overturn what had been agreed five years earlier. I ended up with a very good clean break settlement which gave me my freedom back. Priceless!

skodadoda · 05/07/2021 18:22

Airfryer. It cooks lots of things fantastically; burgers, bacon, baked potatoes, sausages, chicken breasts and uses a fraction of the electricity that the oven uses. Cost me £22.

Gertie75 · 05/07/2021 18:25

My heated throw, I sit under it every evening on the sofa.
A Ninja 9 in 1 and then the Ninja grill, it's currently cooking a pasta bake and did amazing yorkshire Puddings yesterday.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 05/07/2021 18:27

Quality bedroom furniture and mattress when I moved into my flat; it was a huge splurge at the time, but my bedroom is my sanctuary and I love it.
My oven. I'd never had a good one, but when my last one packed in a couple of years ago, I chose one with a few bells and whistles, including a top as well as main oven, so I can have things on at different temperatures simultaneously. It makes me smile almost daily, and cakes come out perfect every time.
Private therapy for ds. I'm on a low income, and it's a stretch to find the money every week, but it's worth it to see him develop coping strategies, and improve his mental health. CAMHS in my area is so overstretched and underfunded he'd never have got the help he needed if we'd taken that route.

bridgetreilly · 05/07/2021 18:28

@Scaredycat87, if your dentist really said that sparkling water was worse for your teeth than sweets, they were completely wrong. It is marginally worse than still water, but nothing like as bad as sweets, crisps, or sugary drinks.

bridgetreilly · 05/07/2021 18:29

@user153678768 Talk to a pharmacist about the travel sickness tablets. There are several kinds and they can all work well.

bridgetreilly · 05/07/2021 18:30

£200 to see a specialist career consultant in my field. Life-changing in every way.

applesandpears33 · 05/07/2021 18:30

@user153678768

Our kids are a little older now and we use Stugeron. I think it is suitable from age 3 or 4 and up. I take the tablets too as I'm not a great traveller either. Before we used the tablets we had a memorable trip to see my parents when our two eldest kids puked five times between them during a journey that should have taken three and a half hours. The tablets work really well though and I wouldn't think of travelling anywhere without them now.

Back towards the end of 2018, my husband bought a portable dvd player for our daughter to dvd's on, for a long drive up to Scotland. It had been reduced to £50. Its been a god send, has been well used and still going strong. Beat buy for us.

@luvvaduck

Camper van. Bought third-hand 12 years ago. Old-fashioned-looking van, dated upholstery, nothing to get excited about. I spent £15,000 and it felt like a huge indulgence. I could sell it tomorrow for £10,000 and in the meantime it's given me hundreds of weeks and weekends away, has served as Covid accommodation for visiting friends (they've slept in it and we've socialised in the garden). I've been able to attend weddings and parties and stay over in it without running up hotel costs, attend festivals and conferences and trundle round Europe on touring holidays. I also go on regular camping trips with friends and my van serves as a shelter for those in tents during wet weather. It's really improved my life — and it passed its MOT with only new windscreen wipers last week.
How much money have you spent on this van annually?
Justgonamless · 05/07/2021 18:37

Best thing we ever “bought” for sure

Awww. That’s just lovely. You know a photo is needed.
Wombat36 · 05/07/2021 18:42

Vispring mattress, worth every penny.

maddiemookins16mum · 05/07/2021 18:43

Francescaisstressed · 05/07/2021 18:47

Womaniser sex toy - didn't have an orgasm until I was 29 and managed with this, after alot of work using it.

Adoption fees for my cat.

Maternity pillow - never been pregnant but seriously helped my back pain

larkstar · 05/07/2021 18:48

@aurynne

The money I gave a very good friend so he could afford taking her daughter to a different city for a lung transplant. It meant he didn't have to go into debt and worry about paying for stuff while they were there and could focus on supporting her daughter. It still gives me the warm fuzzies thinking about it.
What an incredible and lovely thing to do for someone - can't believe no one else gave you Flowers for this!

I love the bread-maker I bought nearly 3 years ago - I make about 3 loaves every fortnight - one white Ciabatta loaf for toasting, one 50/50 white/wholemeal with sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and orange blossom honey and a few others types of loaf beside - far better than any bread I can buy and if you buy 16kg bags of top quality white and stoneground flour - it works out at something like 75p/loaf. It takes 15mins to pop a loaf on, 5hrs to make/bake, 2 hrs to cool - slice and pop it straight in the freezer - no waste.

Schooldilemma2345 · 05/07/2021 18:48

I’m with you on the soda stream, bought one recently and I love having sparkling water without the plastic waste.
Super king bed- bought when I found out I was pregnant with my (surprise) 3rd. Along with a very expensive wool and hemp JL mattress- It’s so comfortable and all 5 of us fit!
A bell tent- I hate camping but I’m slowly getting into Glamping!
A pressurised cylinder for hot water when we replumbed our house- boring but we have brilliant water pressure even at the top of the house and loads of hot water- I really love a hot Bath!

Harls1969 · 05/07/2021 18:57

My bread machine. I'd put off buying one for years but bought one recently. It's so easy to use (and clean) and it makes delicious bread
