What's the best money you've spent?

Just marvelling at my soda stream. We used to buy SO much sparkling water the amount of plastic was dreadful. I'm so glad I bought it! has really made life better.

Also my quartz worktops.... was a splurge but bloody hell my kitchen is a beautiful place to be now. I can't stop looking at them!

@Mere1

Not to rain on your parade BUT granite chips easily and badly.
What exactly was the point of this comment if NOT to piss on OP's party? Was it an attempt to be helpful?

Best money I ever spent was my braces aged 33. Felt AMAZING taking proper care of my mouth for the first time (my mum was terrified of the dentist and never took me as a child)

Asked DP this question and he said "the 180 quid I ended up having to pay for our first date" We went for a coffee, but then he realised he'd parked in a supermarket car park that closed over the weekend... and it was a bank holiday. He had to pay for 3 days' parking AND for a rental car to get him home / collect DSS / use for the weekend Grin Good job we liked each other because that was one EXPENSIVE coffee! 😂

My dog and school fees!

momtoboys · 05/07/2021 18:59

The fence we had installed around our backyard. I could let my boys out when they were little, watch them while I picked up the kitchen and not worry about them getting out or someone getting in. Now that they are older its ideal for our two large dogs. It was a lot of money, but worth every penny.

Anastar23 · 05/07/2021 18:59

Nespresso machine…. Love it too much!!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/07/2021 19:02

Ages ago, but probably the £40 I paid a Miracle Man to come and clean my disgusting oven.

Beebumble2 · 05/07/2021 19:02

Road trip across Canada, staying mostly at Fairmonts. The memory of it has sustained me through lockdown.

Julia001 · 05/07/2021 19:05

Our super king ottoman bed with a super king Casper hybrid mattress , I have never been so comfortable in bed , well worth £2k for both , plus the fan light in our bedroom. I work nights so the fan is great for keeping me cool in the day

@Parky04

Laser eye surgery. Nothing else comes remotely close!
Definitely this. Wish I'd done it years ago. It was like a miracle

chocolateorangeinhaler · 05/07/2021 19:18

Life insurance......10 years later got cancer. Cancer now gone and mortgage free before 40.
Never skimp on insuring a debt. You never know when you need that help.

JILL21 · 05/07/2021 19:18

Baavet wool duvets. Such a difference. Didn’t believe it until I got one about five years ago. They really do regulate your temperature. Got them for al our beds now and guests always comment.

GameSetMatch · 05/07/2021 19:18

Buggy board was the best £50 I’ve ever spent!

godmum56 · 05/07/2021 19:19

@randomkey123

My two dogs.

Even though I got soaking wet this morning walking them, and they both needed a bath. My wellies were so heavy with mud I could barely walk. One had a thorn stuck in their paw which needed tweezing out, and the other ate something they shouldn't from the grandkids and has the shits Grin

me too
Mulletsaremisunderstood · 05/07/2021 19:19

Some of these are lovely Smile, I can't wait to own my own place and have a dog. Unfortunately I'm renting so it's not allowed :-(

Mine are:

Years ago - money I spent on travelling around the world. I had a brilliant time, so many good memories, got to see some amazing places!

More recently -
My Macbook Air - it works brilliantly, looks beautiful, has never failed me, it's light and easy to carry with me. I use it nearly every day and it makes me happy. After years of crappy cheap laptops I finally splurged and I'm so glad I did.

KitchenAid - again looks beautiful and works brilliantly. Makes me want to bake more.

Aeropress - saved me a fortune in coffee over lockdown, I use it every morning for my coffee. So easy to use and clean.

Skincare - not really expensive, but using certain products have really helped my skin glow. I don't really wear make up anymore.

RandomCatGenerator · 05/07/2021 19:21

What an investment, @lemonsandgingerbeer Grin

Oooh which resort?
Bertiebiscuit · 05/07/2021 19:25

My cashmere track bottoms from H and M 2 years ago - lived in them throughout most of the lockdown and never want to be without them - light, comfortable and exquisitely warm - comfort blanket in trouser form

ILikeBiscuits · 05/07/2021 19:27

Laser hair removal back in the 90s. It was early days and had to be done by a nurse (and theoretically supervised by a doctor) but has been worth every penny. I always have smooth legs and never have to think about it.

Lavazza milk frother which was £19 in JL perhaps 20 months ago. I read about it on the Christmas bargains thread on Mumsnet and have used it nearly every day since then. It turns a small amount of milk into a couple of inches of creamy froth, adding luxury to my diet hot chocolate at bedtime.

SleepyMathematician · 05/07/2021 19:27

I spent £6000 to save the life of my dog last autumn, culminating in a blood transfusion.
You’d never believe how ill she was now and I’m grateful for every single day with her, for every walk, for every night she curls up on my bed.
Without doubt, the very best money I’ve ever spent.

I’m also aware that there’s a dog out there who donated that blood and I’m eternally grateful for that too.

RandomCatGenerator · 05/07/2021 19:28

Noise cancelling headphones. I used to do a lot of international travel for work and they’re just such a godsend to make flights bearable. You can just totally block out everything around you and watch a film or go to sleep.
