What gloriously scented things do you have in your house? Bar soap, candles, moisturiser - anything!

I'm pregnant and my sense of smell has gone through the roof. I want to surround myself with wonderfully scented things!

I ran out of face wash the other day so used a bit of my husband's. It has birch sap in it, and is the most intoxicating thing ever. I just stood there letting the shower water go cold breathing it in like a loon Grin

I also keep sticking my nose in various candles and pots of moisturiser etc as I go around the house. It's making me very happy and is helping me ignore the indigestion and back ache.

Favourites so far are the pumpkin Anthropology candle that I'm trying hard not to burn until autumn (but I take the lid off for a sniff) and an empty box that used to contain an order of bar soaps from Chateau du Savon.

So, please tell me, what are your favourite smelly things?

NotMyCat · 30/06/2021 21:48

@Davros

big tabby cat's biscuity fur. Do they do that in a candle?
Well, he did get too close to a candle once. The result was not to be recommended, fragrance wise...
MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting · 30/06/2021 21:53

Thank you NotMyCat I go in those reasonably regularly, have never seen it, will have closer look, thank you

@deeplyambivalent

Dyptique mimosa and fig candles. Jo Malone red roses bath oil. Jasmine oil from the Imperial Hotel in Delhi. Elemis frangipani body oil. But if I want something really delicious I bury my face in my big tabby cat's biscuity fur.
Biscuity fur is the best smell. Accompanied by rubbing your nose in the tummy, and that lovely fur Grin
headintheproverbial · 30/06/2021 22:02

Jo Malone so a green tomato scented candle which is just perfection. J'adore!

MilduraS · 30/06/2021 22:02

Another vote for Diptyque candles but in my case it's because I have a very limited sense of smell. They're the only candles I can smell unlit and sometimes even the morning after I've used them. I can't smell Neom candles at all but with my nose stuck in the glass they seem nice 🙈

Personal favourites from Diptyque are the Essence de JG which is impossible to describe though apparently he was going for the smell of an Orthodox Church 🤣 and Fois des Bois which smells smoky like a wood fire without smelling burnt. For warm summer evenings I love Verveine which is a grown up citrusy smell.

If you like your DH's face wash, try Antonia Burrell's cleansing oil. It smells like a clean fresh forest.

L'occitane's verbena collection is another personal fave.

deeplyambivalent · 30/06/2021 22:02

Oh yes, the furry tummy...

Myglueattack · 30/06/2021 22:03

Wait until you smell your beautiful babies head...now if they could bottle that 😍

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 30/06/2021 22:08

I've smelt my babies head. Now grown and flown. I have had a continuous supply of furry cat bellies however...

ReviewingTheSituation · 30/06/2021 22:10

A cucumber and black pepper candle. Absolutely lovely.

whenyouknow1youknow1 · 30/06/2021 22:10

Look up bee natural wax melts on Instagram etc. Amazing

TheMotherlode · 30/06/2021 22:17

It’s an investment but I absolutely love my Neom diffuser. I have a lavender and chamomile scent in it at the moment and it’s so relaxing.

delilahbucket · 30/06/2021 22:17

I love Misters Candles (on Etsy). I've tried loads of other small business brands but despite loving the smells, the quality is just not as good as Misters.

Mintjulia · 30/06/2021 22:25

Today, fresh roses from the garden Smile

BrownEyedGirl80 · 30/06/2021 22:26

@Cowbells I got it from home bargains you can get disinfectant too.Its gorgeous.

SycamoreGap · 30/06/2021 22:33

@Davros

Buy some Wrights Coal Tar soap. I like the smell and it's strong
I love the smell of coal tar - i miss the days of making coal tar creams at work. Also love the smell of chloroform water, Dettol and isopropyl alcohol - we some amazing IPA wipes at the vaccination centre I’ve been working in!

On a more mainstream note I love the Neom Sleep oil in my oil burner.

SkiingIsHeaven · 30/06/2021 22:33

My son. No better smell than a sweaty teenager. Joking obviously.

ouchmyfeet · 30/06/2021 23:01

@Crankley

It's called fresh air, I open my windows and patio doors. Hate over-scented candles.
There's always one Hmm
ouchmyfeet · 30/06/2021 23:06

OP if you like bar soap try Soapsmiths, gorgeous individual and unusual scents and they smell quite strongly. On the downside the bars are softish so don't last as long as cheaper soap:

My favourite place for scented candles is Melt. Beautiful scents, the candles don't look as lovely as the likes of jo malone or diptyque but they fill the room with amazing scent even when unlit. They last ages and don't give off nasty black smoke. Honestly I can't recommend them enough. Loads of scents, my favourite is forest:

NotMyCat · 30/06/2021 23:14

I forgot these candles too. I have Gilt and the jam one

Not very exciting, but I absolutely love the smell of Nivea. I could open one of the little blue tins and inhale that clean, delicate scent all day long!

This perfume, a bit dated now, is to me the scent of a summer holiday. I don't waste it by wearing it - I own a bottle of it just to smell. www.fragrantica.com/perfume/So/So-Desirable-8046.html

EmmaJR1 · 30/06/2021 23:24

The Kent Candle company lime and basil diffuser is gorgeous.

It's addictive!

PhloxOfSheep · 01/07/2021 14:25

Oh I knew you lot would come up with the goods. I've made a huge list of everything...apart from the teenage son!

Three recommendations for Soapsmith bar soaps so maybe I'll start there.

Also very tempted by the Elemis bath milk, the Method pink grapefruit cleaner (I love grapefruit-scented things) and the Melt Candles options.

I'd love to try a Dyptique candle but they're a tad pricey! Birthday present perhaps!

@deeplyambivalent No cats in the vicinity I'm afraid! And the ones next door are a bit jumpy - I don't think they'd appreciate me grabbing them for a sniff Grin

@Myglueattack I'm looking forward to baby head smell with the greatest of anticipation!
