What shite films and genres do you love watching? But would cringe if people knew about.

For me it’s crappy supernatural ones, like Van Helsing, The Brothers Grimm and demonic possession films.
Can’t be doing with rom coms or action films.

When I was in my late teens I developed an addition to true story straight to video films. Generally set in American high schools. There was a whole section in our local blockbuster, and many a happy hour was spent watching them. I’ve just googled ‘true story odyssey’ (the best were released by odyssey - I remember their blue logo coming up on the screen with fondness) and it seems I’m not the only fan.

minou123 · 29/06/2021 22:36

My secret pleasure is those tacky American true crime documentaries.

Like 'Deadly Women', 'Neighbours Who Kill', 'Wives with Knives,'.

The narrator is always a women and tells the story with such dramatic flair.
And the reconstruction of the story has the same over dramatic actors for each story.
Then they use the same criminal psychologist, coroner and police to give thier opinion.

I love it.

InterstellarDrifter · 29/06/2021 22:41

I love all the hallmark movies, nonsense movies like sharknado, anything with vampires, zombies or werewolves.
I’m not ashamed of any of it Smile

RightOnTheEdge · 29/06/2021 22:43

I too love the channel 5 films and the cheesy Christmas films!
Even though I know exactly what is going to happen.

My favourite films are Marvel Avengers ones which is a bit cringey when my friends are talking about more "grown up" kind of films or horrors.

AntiWorkBrigade · 29/06/2021 22:44

Minou - my favourite part of documentaries about crime documentaries are the experts who solemnly impart such insights as “what stalkers are really motivated by is control over their victims”. Fascinating.

LivingWithWeeds · 29/06/2021 22:46

Mine is on YouTube. I watch American bloggers doing "My 4am productive morning routine" or "Early morning mindfulness and workout routines".

I normally watch these when I roll out of bed late at the weekends. Or when I stay up until the wee small hours.

SunSeaSurfGin · 29/06/2021 22:49

Really bad hallmark movies. Especially Christmas ones and Christmas ones involving a Royal Family

Mother87 · 29/06/2021 22:50

@Comedycook

I love those channel 5 in the afternoon type films...you know, there's usually a killer nanny/surrogate/mistress etc etc
Me too! The women always have perfect skin and swishy hair and they're all murdery... And of course the stalky-ex/baddy always gets caught just in timeGrin
GreenClock · 29/06/2021 22:55

America’s Next Top Model (early series).

The Call Centre. I wish they’d filmed more.

Xmasbaby11 · 29/06/2021 22:58

Ooh yes the cheesy xmas films are the best. When the kids were tiny, I was off work ill in Dec and lay on the sofa all day watching xmas films while they were in nursery. It was awesome!

TheWeeDonkey · 29/06/2021 23:02

Me too InTheClugie

I've also developed a thing for Say Yes To The Dress over lockdown. I'm not even interested in wedding dresses!!!

Yes! I love it.

Candice DeLong is the FBI profiling expert I love the most.
She says things like "He was a psychopath with no remorse or empathy "
Well, quite Candice, that's what a psychopath is.

She also emphasises every word.

"She.... Was.....Angry"

Temp023 · 29/06/2021 23:08

Does reading “Take a Break, Fate and Fortune” count as a guilty secret.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 29/06/2021 23:08

Grease 2. I love it!

Also all the E! Shows like extreme couponers, and extreme cheapskates and the Discovery shows like Swamp People and Alaskan Bush People.

ladygindiva · 29/06/2021 23:09

I loved the Catherine Cooksons that were on Sunday afternoons a few years back. Gutted when they stopped showing those.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 29/06/2021 23:18

Creature features
Zombie movies

TheChosenTwo · 29/06/2021 23:32

Midsomer murders is my favourite weekend snoozing telly Grin
I’m not remotely embarrassed about it either, the dc and dh laugh at me but I care not, you can put it on, fall asleep for an hour and a half and wake up in time to see it all be wrapped up and you don’t feel like you’ve missed anything!
I’m also partial to those How It’s Made programmes, something about the factory processes. That’s a bit weird I suppose, I don’t tell many people about that one Grin

SpringLoadedJizz · 30/06/2021 00:00

Cartoons. DC are teens and I miss watching Dora the Explorer and Paw Patrol and the like. I don't watch those ones by myself or anything though, I stick to stuff like The Simpsons etc and I've spent whole evenings by myself just watching SpongeBob SquarePants. Blush

Fi1982 · 30/06/2021 00:01

I’d put some of these on a sandwich board compared to the driv I watch sometimes 🤣

You don’t know shame until you’ve watched six series of My Big Fat Fabulous Life or Curvy Brides Boutique on TLC. Anything diet or obesity related I find fascinating (I’m not stick thin so hopefully don’t sound like an odious rubbernecker)… 600lb life, It’s Your Fault I’m Fat etc.

Also Made in Chelsea has had a resurgence in the Fi household, and I’ve watched Home and Away since its inaugural episode but gone off it a bit lately. Surely no shame in ogling hot topless Aussie dudes though eh.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 30/06/2021 00:06

none

I watch what I like and wouldn't give a shit about anyone cringing or judging.🤷‍♀️
why would anyone else's opinion matter in this case?

PermanentTemporary · 30/06/2021 00:13

'Lifestyle' crapola from the US. You know, made for $20 based on some woman-in-peril tabloid story.

Titles like 'Taken from the Mall' 'Daddy Where Are You'' 'Gone; The Lori Fuhungus Story' etc. I wish we had them in the UK. Actually we kind of do, they star Rachel Lancaster.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/06/2021 00:21

I like the Christmas ones too.

And anything with a dance studio where they're preparing for a competition. They'll be the plucky underdogs who just miss out on winning the at the first big qualifier, but then through a technicality/wildcard place/somebody else getting disqualified they'll make it through and go on to win the championship. Bonus points for a new member coming in and having a feud with/taking over from the previous queen bee, and quite possibly them going after the same boy. Somebody will be injured but dance through the pain without telling everybody and then probably collapses and "needs surgery" and they all speak about them in hushed voices, and somebody usually can't afford it and is working to fund their lessons but doesn't want anybody else to know. Somebody usually leaves to join a big dance company at the end too.

I know they're rubbish, I can tell you the plot in advance, but I still always sometimes cry when they win.

My DSis said I should look at The Next Step. I was hooked before I realised it's technically a children's show!

Oooooh yes. Anything TAB. Now there’s just me and him, weve got quite partial to itv3, so Lewis, Midsomer, Poirot. Younger us are laughing at us. I don’t like proper horror either, can’t be doing with the likes of Saw etc. And then of course I am a sporner. The love that dare not speak its name. Except in mn.

I’m terrible lol for watching “ big foot” films 🤣, I just love them especially the “true” stories.hahah
On Amazon prime if anybody wants to know.🤣🤣

Strokethefurrywall · 30/06/2021 02:22

Any disaster/rom com movie from the late 90s:
Armageddon
Independence Day
My best friends wedding
Never Been kissed
She’s All That

Etc etc. Anything mindless that my husband absolutely wouldn’t watch with me.
