Year 6 prom daughter does not like dresses

It's daughters year 6 prom soon. The girls normally wear nice dresses. But my daughter does not like dresses . She lives in leggings and tops. Anyone have any suggestions what I could get for her? She does not want anything to girly.

A nice jumpsuit?

Daisy95 · 29/06/2021 16:30

Would she wear a jumpsuit? Might be more suited alternative for her ☺️

Try a tux? You can get girls version.. Or a smart jumpsuit

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 29/06/2021 16:31

It's a school disco so whatever she is comfortable . in. A sparkly t shirt and leggings? A jumpsuit?

Gatekeeper · 29/06/2021 16:31

Two of mt dds friends didn't wear dresses. One wore a tuxedo and the other a black jumpsuit. Both looked great

PathOfLeastResitance · 29/06/2021 16:31

My niece was the same and wore a jumpsuit and let my sister brush her hair Grin

LittleRedPill · 29/06/2021 16:31

Jumpsuit would be a good option. Or why not wear a shirt and blazer? That could look amazing.

There is a thread here with a personal shopper giving fantastic advice and recommendations.
Perhaps ask on there?

To add to that, she is now 20 and after a long period of not washing/brushing/caring/wearing pyjamas is now a model and has more clothes and variety than the whole high street.

Glittery Leggings or Squence (Spelling?) Leggings and a nice top?

Okcookie · 29/06/2021 16:39

I imagine she would look amazing in a full tuxedo ensemble if she fancies it.

I also remember a sixth form do where one of the upper sixth girls was wearing a smart jumpsuit and I thought she looked fabulous.

blackteaplease · 29/06/2021 16:40

Y6 prom? So age 11? I would let her wear leggings and a top if that's what she wants.

UserAtLarge · 29/06/2021 16:42

Whatever she wants. There will be a huge range of clothing.

titchy · 29/06/2021 16:43

Blimey she's 11 what's with the jumpsuit/tux suggestions?!

Leggings and a nice sparkly top is perfectly fine for a primary school do.

user1493494961 · 29/06/2021 16:48

Agree with a pp, it's a school disco, let her wear what she wants.

IDontReadEyebrows · 29/06/2021 16:48

I’d let her choose a new outfit that she likes. My own daughter wore dungarees and converse to her year 6 disco. I think only 1 girl wore a remotely pretty dress all the other girls were dressed very much similar to my daughter. The boys were mostly wearing full footy kits, as were 1 or 2 of the girls.

YouLookSoCool · 29/06/2021 16:51

Whatever she wants. At DD's year 6 leavers' party (not a prom thank goodness) lots of girls were in very posh dresses; some weren't; DD wore denim dungarees and a t shirt.

Okcookie · 29/06/2021 16:51

Yes, I guess a primary school thing is quite young to go all out - I was thinking of the older prom type thing.

I guess it depends on what the others are doing and if she wants to blend in or isn't bothered.

fruitbrewhaha · 29/06/2021 16:54

Prom? Jesus, they are just little kids. Does this mean girls parents are expected to buy a fancy dress that will get worn once for 2 hours and the boys are going to have to buy a suit. What a fucking drama. Let them have a disco and wear what ever they want.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/06/2021 16:55

What does she wear when she goes to birthday parties? She can just wear that surely? Even if it is "just leggings and a top".

Gatekeeper · 29/06/2021 16:56

Ohh I just realised its a primary leavers disco and not a year 11 prom. I would let her wear what she wants then.
