It's daughters year 6 prom soon. The girls normally wear nice dresses. But my daughter does not like dresses . She lives in leggings and tops. Anyone have any suggestions what I could get for her? She does not want anything to girly.

These suits are sweet: www.rococlothing.co.uk/girls/suits/

A salwaar kameez might be an interesting alternative to a tunic and leggings: janan.co.uk/collections/girls?page=8

And for some reason my phone won’t let me link but how about a sequinned play suit/romper suit?

motogogo · 29/06/2021 17:04

School disco- wear whatever she wants, shorts and a nice top

A Hillary Clinton style pant suit?

How about a space suit?

itsgettingwierd · 29/06/2021 17:25

What does she want to wear?

Anything is fine.

Jumpsuit, trousers and nice blouse, leggings and top.

pumpkintree · 29/06/2021 17:26

New look Teen section has lovely clothes not just dresses but trousers tops short sets jumpsuit. They are not " disco or prom" but definitely " on trend"

NautaOcts · 29/06/2021 17:28

She’s 11 people! Not 6th form ball - year 6 as in end of primary!

Sparkly top and leggings will be just the ticket 👍
Maybe jumpsuit if she wants

WTFisNext · 29/06/2021 17:29

Let her wear what she wants.

No matter how many times people try to call it a prom it's just an end of year and school disco. The children will run around like fools, if there's outdoor space the DJ will be a waste of money and they'll thoroughly enjoy themselves.

Kottbullar · 29/06/2021 17:31

Just let her pick something she likes, it's just a kids disco.

Hallyup6 · 29/06/2021 17:32

She's 11. Why don't you ask her what she wants to wear? Jeans and a t-shirt would be absolutely fine.

Littlelegs2 · 29/06/2021 17:42

When I have seen the prom outfits in previous years the girls have mainly been in nice dresses. not proper prom dresses but still pretty.

She is allowed to choose but she has no idea what she wants. She does not want leggings and a top though. Unless there's something a bit different about them.

Denim shorts with leggings underneath? Dungarees or jumpsuit? My dd will probably wear one of these to her y6 leavers dance if we can run one. She hasn't worn a dress since y3.

It is but on the news letter they call it a prom. They do dress differently to the standard end of year disco though. Apart from that its no different.

Jumpsuit? Next do some nice ones. My 6 year old lives in them.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 29/06/2021 17:52

Smart jeans and nice top?

MrsMariaReynolds · 29/06/2021 19:33

Year 6..."prom?" Ffs. They're 11. Let her wear something comfy.

LadyJaye · 29/06/2021 19:44

I went to my graduation ball (20 years ago!), wearing a tuxedo that I bought in a charity shop and a very clever friend of mine adjusted for me. I wore heels, though - I was going for the Victor/Victoria look. Grin

It was BRILLIANT.

LadyJaye · 29/06/2021 19:46

Ah, missed out on the fact that the OP's kid is 11... Grin

In that case, a jumpsuit? Leggings and a tunic?

PippaPots · 29/06/2021 20:10

DD is 15, she last wore a dress when she was 8 and had to be heavily bribed to do so for a family wedding.

For her yr6 prom it was ridiculously overboard, with stretch hummers and an early finish at school so girls could go to the hairdressers.

We went with black skinny jeans, a plain white shirt and a pink bow tie and converse. She looked lovely, was able to dance without tripping on skirts. The majority looked uncomfortable and had scruffy half fallen out updos and sweaty smeared makeup at the end.

Youdiditanyway · 30/06/2021 09:56

I’d never get my DD’s in a big fluffy dress, they’d rather die! Black skinny jeans and a nice top should suffice, it surely isn’t a real prom for 11 year olds…

honeybuns007 · 30/06/2021 09:57

Oh 11 year olds!!!!! I thought it was for school leavers 😂

LookItsMeAgain · 30/06/2021 09:59

Get her a tuxedo. Blouse, jacket, trousers, spatz shoes. If she doesn't like dresses, get her a tux.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 30/06/2021 10:02

They don't wear the big frilly dresses for year 6 prom. A nice top and leggings is fine. DD finally decided to wear a dress for hers, which was a real surprise.
