Posting here for traffic as well as on the money board

I'm in a bit of a bind this month due to some unexpected things- next month is predicted to be much easier. I could do with a couple of hundred of pounds this month to tide me over. I have no relatives or friends who can help and am in the process of joining clickerworker/starting a second job
Please can anyone advise of the best and easiest place to get a payday loan it's been a headache trying to look for one today

OP posts:

Im ignoring this one love.
Its just ignorant.

Half of the country is in receipt of food bank stuff.
One in five kids free school meals.

Washing machines break down.
Kids lose their coats on the way home from school.

Get real .

GreyhoundG1rl · 28/06/2021 21:46

Maybe you should stick to what the op has posted rather than random things that are happening to other people, beigebrownblue?
You seem to have a bit of an issue. Stop projecting.

Graphista · 28/06/2021 21:58

Can you go through grocery stocks and plan so that you're minimising grocery shop to essentials only

Cancel any non essential subscriptions, any direct debits due to come out before you're straight again some you can move the dates to give you a bit of breathing space I used to do that at times

Use loyalty points - using them to buy stuff is usually the least efficient way to use them but as a temporary measure may help. If you can time it right (check with providers) you can maybe use points to offset other bills - eg Clubcard points can be used towards Tesco mobile bill I did this last month, forgot to do it this month but I'm gonna do it again ASAP so it'll bring next months bill down

Money saving expert site is excellent for this kind of advice but also there's the credit club - which if you join (doesn't cost) can tell you which credit cards you might be able to get even with bad credit. I did this a few years back and have used it initially for a similarly tight short term issue and then when that was cleared I've rebuilt my credit rating and it's now excellent again

There are credit cards that people with poor credit can get

@BunnyRuddington credit unions you tend to have to have a history with them before you can borrow now

@SorrySoldOut there have been issues on mn in the past where posters have basically posted begging threads and well meaning posters have been scammed - absolutely not saying that applies to op but its standard for mn to post that warning on this kind of thread now

Hope you get through next few days ok op, I've been there too, with like pennies in my account and praying nobody takes a flipping direct debit out early! (Which happens!) it sucks!

beigebrownblue · 28/06/2021 22:01

I did. Exactly. That's why I suggested the credit union.
which is why OP took it up.

I'm not 'projecting' thanks.

Not helpful your response. To anyone.

MrsOrMiss · 28/06/2021 22:24

The trouble with Credit Unions is, you need to build up a credit history with them before you can take out a loan.

If I were you, I'd cancel any direct debits and re do them after you've been paid. It'll be much cheaper paying the bank fees than the interest on a payday loan.

I've been where you are - £10 left til payday and have to feed the family for 4 days until then, good job pasta is cheap and filling.

Good luck OP.

We know that, but what everyone on here is saying is, please don't get a payday loan unless one of those things happen (and even then do it as a last resort).

If the OPs washing machine breaks down she can try to source a 2nd hand one on FB marketplace.

If her children lose some vital piece of clothing then she could try to get a replacement 2nd hand.
None of this would necessitate a payday loan for £200.

Everyone on here is just trying to prevent the OP making a major mistake and locking herself into further debt.

Sleeplessem · 28/06/2021 22:29

@Ozanj

Banks are no longer allowed to charge overdraft fees. While this has made authorised overdrafts stupidly expensive now, it has significantly reduced the cost of unauthorised overdrafts. So my advice is just go to an ATM and take out as much cash as your bank allows.
Erm, I work for a bank and that’s not true, they can’t have hidden fees but the mean APR is at least 30% , most likely higher.

Better than a payday loan though, that’s for sure

Nonimai · 28/06/2021 22:40

1st choice - sit tight with your tenner.
Can you put off a bill or bank payment?
If you are totally stuck - first use a credit union, second use a doorstep loan company - Morses Club are ok - don’t use Provident. Under no circumstances use a payday loan company.
Morses , Provident, Loans at home, will charge about £330 for a £200 loan. Probably £10 a week for 33/34 weeks. I might be wrong here but if you back out within the 14 days cooling off period and pay the money back, you won’t pay interest. They will not let you loan again though. Another option is to pay it off as fast as you can and you will get a large chunk of the £130 interest back. It is much cheaper than a payday loan - but don’t let on to them what you are doing. They want you to pay it off weekly and after 12 weeks or so they will try to sell you another loan, and then another etc.

Sleeplessem · 28/06/2021 22:41

And by that I mean the arranged o/d costs have been increased to ‘make up’ for previously unarranged charges x

Nannyamc · 28/06/2021 22:45

Build up savings in cu. It has been a lifesaver for us. They also do budget acs when you get up and running. Bills are spread over the year and you know how much they are each month Also helps with credit score

HalzTangz · 28/06/2021 22:49
@GreyhoundG1rl - yes it would. All banks let their customers with full bank accounts (ie not basic accounts) go overdrawn slightly without permission.
Not from an ATM they don't, they let you go slightly over if a bill goes out a day 9r two before your wages go in, but from an ATM you can only take out what credit you have in your account. If only a tenner you can o my take out a tenner

SD1978 · 28/06/2021 22:54

I really wouldn't. You don't need several hundred pounds, according to your post, you want it. Then how do you pay that back? It will put you further into debt, which if you can't get a credit card, as obviously been an issue for you before.

HalzTangz · 28/06/2021 23:00

I would also assume if you've been looking all day for payday loans, you've also applied and been refused the money.

Unless you are expecting a balliff to come knocking between now and Friday, hold tight with the tenner.

It makes no financial sense at all to get a loan just in case something crops up

OffRampHilton · 28/06/2021 23:07

Apart from needing to have some form of savings built-up, a credit union account isn’t set-up instantaneously. Even if the OP went in tomorrow with her aid and proof of address, it’s take a day or two for an account to be opened, plus even longer for a loan application to be approved.

But she has food, all bills are paid etc it is just wanting £200 in her bank account for just in case money.

That's not true. Not the best advice that is it? 🤔

So the loan is going to be repayable in a month or so? I'd consider pawning something - jewellery if you have it. The overall cost to you should be a lot less than a payday loan, plus once the payday loan company has your details, they're likely to pester pester pester to get you to take on more and more debt.

Pawnbrokers - this is exactly what they've always been for.

This is good advice. If you have a couple of really frugal weeks with groceries, using up any stocks and eat really cheap meals like beans or eggs on toast, curries made with pulses and vegetables (get the very cheap Asian branded spices if you need any) etc to free up a small emergency fund.

Also, a credit card can also help cashflow by pushing back some of your normal spending so it comes out of your bank account when the CC bill is paid, not when you make the purchase - obligatory disclaimer for the CC refuseniks, this is sensible use of a payment tool, not getting into debt or thinking it's free money.

@Kylee300

Why did you fix the dent in your car if you don’t have much money? Surely that could have waited or just been left as it was
Because my car door literally wouldn't shut...

Wow Mumsnet never fails to disappoint with some ignorant presumptive posts ...the one about borrowing off people to get taxis instead of the bus/getting takeaways is my fave...yeah I love having so little dignity im considering a pay day loan it just MUST be so I can get a takeaway right?

If you could explain exactly what it is that you need the extra money for I think people would be more understanding, right now without knowing it sounds like you just want the loan as a buffer just in case…

Have you thought about cam work or streetwalking? As posters here are fond of reminding everyone, 'sex work is work'.
