For me it's how colour works. The whole part with reflecting light. Just how can that be true? (I know it is)

DNA and cells. How those cells can be hair or part of an eye or blood or whatever and all have my DNA in but all the cells have different "jobs".

BorderlineHappy · 28/06/2021 11:44

How are we the only species in the whole universe.
How something so vast has nothing else.
Just us floating around.

NoSquirrels · 28/06/2021 11:48

@peachgreen

Death. I don't understand how people can be here and then just... gone. DH died 8 months ago and I am still completely baffled as to how he's not here any more and never will be again.
Yes. It is completely unbelievable, really. Flowers
Yaykyay · 28/06/2021 11:48

Space. Where does it end, what's outside it? It's honestly a bit much to think about.

TeenMinusTests · 28/06/2021 11:48

What was there before the big bang.
What is the point of existence.

But also:

How people can have such little insight that they can't imagine other people thinking differently (especially politics).
How little understanding of basic science some people have / how they think they know so much better than all the professional scientists / ethics boards etc.

dudsville · 28/06/2021 11:51

Aging and death. It boggles my mind that people I know no longer exist or will cease to exist, and that I won't be young again and won't exist in the future.

SunSeaSurfGin · 28/06/2021 11:51

When people describe their home extension plans I can't visualise them at all. (Bit niche that one...)
This! Especially if I've never been in there house in the first place.

My DMs complicated plans for trips etc. She won't just go from AB she has to go via c&d and c&d might be after going to B.

When people talk to me about the complicated lives of people I bearly know if at all.

whatswithtodaytoday · 28/06/2021 11:51

Electricity
How aeroplanes stay up

And how I can have created another human inside me, and now he's running around being a whole other person.

dudsville · 28/06/2021 11:52

Sorry for your loss nosquirrels, I hadn't read before I posted.

CupOfTPlease · 28/06/2021 11:52

@Batsy

that pineapples grow in fields like cauliflowers.

I've seen it with my own eyes, but my brain refuses to accept that its true..

I was today years old when I realised they don't grown on trees Blush.

How embarrassing Grin.

dudsville · 28/06/2021 11:53

That's mental.
TheVanguardSix · 28/06/2021 11:54

Also language. How did we come up with so many?! It’s insane when you think about it.

JustMeAndWheatley · 28/06/2021 11:55

Tides
Moon
Planets
How aeroplanes stay in the sky
How ships don’t sink

longtompot · 28/06/2021 11:56

The Universe and how something has no end.

Um, did you mean highly intelligent species or something? Pretty sure blue whales, bonobos, magpies, rose leaf hoppers etc are all examples of species.
JustMeAndWheatley · 28/06/2021 11:58

Rules of board games
Verbal instructions and directions

AnoymousCoward · 28/06/2021 11:58

For me, it is the size of the universe.
How insignificant we are.
And also if there's anything beyond our universe.

JaneJeffer · 28/06/2021 11:58

How some people never ponder any of this stuff and if you mention it to them they look at you as if you're mad. What do they think about all day?!

FussyLittleFucker · 28/06/2021 11:59

Loads of things but the big ones are

Quantum physics
Bitcoin

I have watched documentaries and YouTube videos but absolutely none-the-wiser about either.

meatester · 28/06/2021 12:00

@SpacePug

I can't believe that time is a made up thing. Someone decided that there's 24 hours a day and 7 days in a week, or months of the year , imagine if there was no calendar or no clocks.

Also how does a camera take a photo? A digital camera , it sees what we see and somehow enables it to be printed as a physical image 😱 how is that possible

It's not made up, it's how long we take to spin on our axis/orbit the sun
SunSeaSurfGin · 28/06/2021 12:01

Yes

How we did we develop from basic grunting to 100s of languages and dialects and accents

Laceandflowers383 · 28/06/2021 12:07

That we've gone from inventing the first phone 150 years ago to the huge advances we've got in technology today. Humans have been around for 200,000 years, how have we suddenly become so clever?

SleepingStandingUp · 28/06/2021 12:08

Tsunamis and flood that reach roof tops. It's the whole displacement of tha uch water that takes so long to go back down

SpikeDearheart · 28/06/2021 12:08

That stars that we can see now - familiar ones that we name and assign to constellations and used to navigate etc - could already be dead, and we will never know it because the light takes so long to reach us.
