For me it's how colour works. The whole part with reflecting light. Just how can that be true? (I know it is)

How you can record your own voice/music/TV onto a string of brown tape in a cassette.

Showing my age now Blush

@peachgreen

Death. I don't understand how people can be here and then just... gone. DH died 8 months ago and I am still completely baffled as to how he's not here any more and never will be again.
Thanks Thanks

@Gilead

Why people voted for the incompetent, corrupt shower currently in government.
Amen to that one
Bovrilly · 28/06/2021 11:20

Electricity
The number of people in the world
The fact that my dog doesn't even know there's a pandemic
How anyone worked out how to make bread and cake
The fact that we consume milk designed for the babies of another species
When politicians who lie and are obviously corrupt win / stay in power

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 28/06/2021 11:21

Most technology.. the internet, tv, even radio.

How photographs work.. it's pure magic!

Also computers. How does code transform into super complex games and beautiful visuals and websites where you do almost anything??? I know the answer but it's still complete magic!

charmingthebirds · 28/06/2021 11:26

Why somebody thought it was perfectly all right to fly-tip a large pile of their spare household items in the car park of our nature reserve.

Bonedry · 28/06/2021 11:27

@Lottapianos

People who think Boris Johnson is funny / charismatic / doing his best, or in fact anything other than a catastrophic, stomach turning disgrace
Hear, hear. I find this far more difficult to get my brain around than string theory or how bitcoin mining works.

And indeed to that, @Gilead.

Mosaic123 · 28/06/2021 11:27

Curtains. Widths and different pleats. It makes my brain hurt.

TheVanguardSix · 28/06/2021 11:29

Music. Singing. Playing instruments. Dancing. I have a playlist which goes from some Malian guitarist to an Israeli singer to German electronica and everything in between and it just blows my mind what music does to me, for me, how it is such an essential part of our being alive. We are ALL musical. Every single one of us. Music is an endless universe that lives within us and bonds humans like nothing else.

sqirrelfriends · 28/06/2021 11:31

The scale of things. How small atoms are, how impossibly large the universe is and the massive space between objects.

Time dilation, I sort of understand the theory but it still seems implausible.

Can you tell I have a space-obsessed family?

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 28/06/2021 11:33

The complexity of systems. I have friends who are massive systems and I don't understand how they keep track of everyone or ever reach compromise on anything.

*a compromise

Stretchandsnap · 28/06/2021 11:35

How cashew nuts grow - seems so unlikely there will ever be enough for a bag!

How someone can hate someone simply because they have a different faith, sexual preference or skin colour

catfunk · 28/06/2021 11:40

How aeroplanes stay up
That colours aren't really there
How music sticks to cassettes and records
The earth tilting and the sun being in different places at different times of year

Most things really.... Hmm

EuphorbiaPlant · 28/06/2021 11:40

How seasons work

The fact that olden days people like Julius Ceasar, Henry VIII were actual real people

That people can be pro-Monarchy

musthavebeenlove · 28/06/2021 11:41

How the internet works - but I’m very glad it exists Grin

@TheLovelinessOfDemons what do you mean friends are systems ?
SpacePug · 28/06/2021 11:42

I can't believe that time is a made up thing. Someone decided that there's 24 hours a day and 7 days in a week, or months of the year , imagine if there was no calendar or no clocks.

Also how does a camera take a photo? A digital camera , it sees what we see and somehow enables it to be printed as a physical image 😱 how is that possible

alloverthecarpetagain · 28/06/2021 11:42

Glad I'm not the only one here saying planes!
