For me it's how colour works. The whole part with reflecting light. Just how can that be true? (I know it is)

Another one for DNA. I don't understand how so much information is stored in such a microscopic area, and how genetic features can show up in people generations later.
Also how children learn to speak. Out of the babble of human voices they learn to recognise and understand words. I sometimes listen to people speaking foreign languages and imagine I'm a child learning to speak and it seems impossible!

Again, another autistic adult saying that I just can't understand how a neurotypical mind thinks. The way you are conscious of the nuance of every word spoken to you and you don't need to overthink social situations. That is an ability that I will never possess. I can't say that I envy you, but I sometimes wonder what it must be like.

Especially in the UK where the whole of life seems to be subject to a code. We never say what we mean, we employ sarcasm and irony. Nuance is incredibly important here.

I wonder whether autism presents as often in other countries where people tend to say what they mean?

I can't get my head around that the universe goes on forever. Or that there was a "big bang". What was around beforehand?

That we keep other creatures as pets. It’s very sweet & I love pets but no other animal on this planet keeps other animals as pets
Don’t they....

How men ever came to be the ones 'in charge' AND managed to subjugate women, despite women clearly being superior because they can produce whole new humans with only a tiny bit of input from men.

The Monty Hall problem. DS2 (13) has explained it many times to me but I still can't grasp it.

And how some people aren't terrified of heights and can skip about on high walls etc.

Eggs. Who stumbled across a chicken laying an egg and thought 'I wonder what the inside of that tastes like'?

And when I compare some of the men I know to some of the women I know this is even more mind blowing

Particularly when, as a general rule, girls tend to develop and mature (psychologically, I mean) a few years earlier than boys. I know this isn't the case all the time. Every individual is different.

@KatherineJaneway (love the name btw) but what is confusing about the end of Trading Places?

felulageller · 29/06/2021 20:33

Re: trading places
They tricked the dukes into thinking there was going to be a shortage in supply of FCOJ.
Basic economics is that short supply = higher prices. Therefore they expected to be able to sell their FCOJ stocks at a high price so we're happy to keep buying them when they kept rising.

But the real crop report showed no supply shortage therefore the true market value would be low.

So DA and EM played them by 'selling' high (when the dukes' broker was pushing the market up) then buying low when the price tumbled after the crop report was officially released mid way through.

So they made a huge profit from the difference between the 2 prices.

It's a mystery to me why the female orgasm is thought of as being elusive, mysterious and hard for male partners to achieve.

I mean, what on earth is so complicated about stimulating the clitoris?? Confused

KatherineJaneway · 29/06/2021 21:35

@MyGhastIsFlabbered - please see felulageller's post, it explained what I had a hard time with
