Good, why has it taken this long.

The person who gave the CCTV footage to the media should be shot, in my opinion. Nasty, conniving, meddling individual - probably a bloody socialist.**

They gave footage to the sun newspaper , presumably for money. This is against the law. The sun then published the pictures knowing the outcome for Hancocks family, namely his wife and children.
The person who handed the footage in should lose their job at the very least.
When you work in a government department, you can not leak confidential information, regardless of how morally wrong it is.

Blossomtoes · 27/06/2021 19:00

@longwayoff

The person who gave the CCTV footage to the media should receive a knighthood for performing a service in the public interest. Many previously oblivious politicians of all shades are now casting worried looks at the ceilings in their offices. Good. Maybe the behaviour of some will in future be appropriate for the workplace rather than a publicly funded knocking shop.
This. 💯 times this.

Hancock is an utter weasel and BJ even worse for not sacking him long before now. Tory governments are known for sleaze and even during a pandemic obviously some things don’t change. They’re all a bunch of hypocrites - Cummings exposed an email in which Boris called Hancock fucking hopeless and now it’s reported he’s already considering him for something else within government.

The sleazy affair is Hancock’s own mess but the hypocrisy of not following the social distancing guidelines is typical of this government’s shambolic handling of the pandemic and of it’s contempt for the general public. It would also be interesting to know the mistress’ credentials —apart from in the sack— for her job as a non executive director. I read somewhere that her brother is an executive in a private healthcare company which has landed several lucrative NHS contracts. Wasn’t Hancock involved in giving a similar contract to the landlord of his local pub ? Something about providing vials for Covid testing, for which he had no previous experience. I think Hancock has a lot to answer for and there should be an investigation into what’s been going on.

There was a report last night that he had left his wife. Yeah, right. If she had any sense, she would have had his luggage on the doorstep and the locks changed five minutes after the news broke.

Lovely13 · 27/06/2021 19:11

Feel very sorry for innocent partners and children of those involved. The release of secret webcam footage, while cringingly hilarious, is also alarming. Could be used in other instances for all sorts of deeply corrupt situations.

longwayoff · 27/06/2021 19:19

Dave20 . Oh Dave, do you really think some lowly (language of The Sun) office cleaner or other minion has flogged that to The Sun? That is quite a naive interpretation of this. In my opinion this is political witchcraft of the worst kind; to be expected, sadly.

Roussette · 27/06/2021 19:21

I have read they took no money for it.

Nearly47 · 27/06/2021 19:21

@vaccinesforall, You put what I've been thinking into words! So angry to see the papers saying he resigned because of a social distancing breach when he was responsible for not testing the elderly discharged from hospitals causing outbreaks in care homes, shortage of PPE for NHS and care homes staff... So many things. And he gets to RESIGN.! Angry

Dave20 · 27/06/2021 19:26

Ok, but even so it’s still technically misconduct to give out information to the media. Besides, we may never actually know that for sure. The sun are hardly going to admit they paid anyone anyway.
That aside, Hancock is an arse who is dodgy and hopefully loses his seat as an MP.

LauraPearl · 27/06/2021 19:43

Always thought he was a shifty so and so. He'd made his position untenable... Bloody idiot.

Someonetookmyname · 27/06/2021 19:55

Bet Boris is glad he didn’t have to sack him.

The idea of Boris giving anyone a telling off for cheating on their wife is a bit much 😂

PeridotPenelope · 27/06/2021 20:04

@ancientgran

He was in a government building, supposedly doing government work, he shouldn't have had any expectation of privacy to conduct an affair.

Exactly. They are public servants in their official workplace.

This isn’t CCTV footage taken from his own home therefore right to privacy? No.

Dave20 · 27/06/2021 20:21

How can he even continue to be an MP? Surely he lost any credibility he had? How can anyone take him seriously?

longwayoff · 27/06/2021 20:23

@Dave20, to bold your quotes, an asterisk at the beginning, then another at the end will do it. Same with the other stressors.

jgw1 · 27/06/2021 20:25

@Dave20

Are you talking about Hancock or Johnson or both? Neither have any credibility, but the whataboutery has started to try and distract from that.
YogaLite · 27/06/2021 20:39

Feel dreadfully sorry for the children, some primary school age. Reading that Hancock is serious about his squeeze, does that mean that making 3 kids with his wife was a f**king joke??? Sickening, but straight from Boris code of ethical conduct.

He really has behaved as a fumbling teenager with zero integrity or morals. Now he is out and possibly outed as an MP in the near future, I can't see why Gina would hang on to him and destroy her kids home life for him

I also worry that Sajid will put NHS on a fast track to privatisation Sad

Galdos · 27/06/2021 20:41

In this day and age it is slightly surprising so many are censorious about the fact of an affair, and the (presumed) ending of a marriage. Granted, Hancock has (on a personal level) behaved badly (affair started perhaps two years ago; his wife had no inkling the marriage was in peril). The secret filming of his office clinch is potentially very worrying on a security level (do the Russians or Chinese have secret access to ministerial discussions?).

He should have been sacked before he was fired, but Boris is cavalier about these things. Hancock's gravest political mistake was breaching the very rules he oversaw and solemnly warned the rest of us to obey. Political commentary suggests he may struggle to keep his seat at the next election.

He hasn't performed well in the role, but the circumstances were unprecedented, and his boss was somewhat cavalier about the whole thing, even after contracting Covid himself: his poor performance hasn't stood out compared with everyone else's.

The real problem in government is Boris, who has no morals, seems desperate to splash our cash on nonsense (garden bridge? tunnel to Ulster?), but has crafted a sort of [false] boosterish charm which deceives many.

omgthepain · 27/06/2021 21:04

So the question is who'll get to him first??

Strictly come dancing or
I'm a celebrity get me out of here

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Of course you can! It is called whistle-blowing and whistleblowers are protected. A civil servant does not serve the government of the day, they serve the state ( or the Crown to be exact).

Civil servants do serve the crown but also the government of the day. I once worked in the justice system, I wasn’t allowed to disclose information to the media of any sort without permission. That would include wrongdoing of staff, we had official channels to report that to. Not the Sun newspaper.

Dave20 · 27/06/2021 21:49

I also worry that Sajid will put NHS on a fast track to privatisation**

Well it was Labour who brought in PFIs and got the private sector to build new hospitals, that will take decades to pay for.

frumpety · 27/06/2021 21:58

Two wrongs don't make a right though, just because Labour did X bad thing, it doesn't mean we should all accept the privatisation of the NHS by the Conservative party. Fairly sure their manifesto pledges didn't mention selling it off to their chums.

It wasn’t actually. PFI was started by the Major government, the subsequent Labour made the mistake of not binning it.

The damage to Mrs Hancock and their children is 100% on Matt Hancock.

Whistleblowing isn't against the law. I can't understand why anyone would defend Hancock. This isn't leaking confidential information, it is exposing a public servant who isn't living up to the standards expected in the workplace.

Here's a link www.gov.uk/whistleblowing it explains the protection for whistleblowers the main point being they can't lose their job for whistleblowing.

YogaLite · 27/06/2021 22:11

Imagine if the whistleblower reported it internally upwards to Boris, I think that would raise a laugh at no 10 Grin

Have they said they want to sell it off though? I think it would be too unpopular to do even if they wanted to.
