Good, why has it taken this long.

Undoubtedly they were Mercy. No way this is just a few weeks old. They've known each other for decades, he obviously got her the job so he could spend more time with her because having an affair whilst lockdown is on, does limit your chance of seeing each other. Which fits in with what I read about staffers being totally aware of what was going on, and being fed up with it.

the80sweregreat · 27/06/2021 17:15

I'd love the rumors to be true that the whistleblower didn't get any money for telling the Sun about this camera footage of them both.
I guess we will never know the truth though.

Backhills · 27/06/2021 17:16

Sunak has lost over 3 million votes due to the shamble of the self employed covid "support". Many self employed are natural Tory supporters, and will be very reluctant to vote Tory if there's any chance that Sunak will become leader/PM.

I don't think so. How else will they vote? I've no idea really on his credentials, he just seems electable.

Eve76 · 27/06/2021 17:26

I think it’s naughty that he was spied on , I don’t think anyone should be sacked or made to resign for having an affair . His performance as health secretary wasn’t great and that should have been why he resigned

A vote for any other party is preferable. This government have done their absolute best to destroy small business. Sunak is all for the huge corporations whilst intentionally failing to support @ 3million tax payers.

I disagree that this will be forgotten anytime soon.

CheerfulBunny · 27/06/2021 17:42

BBC radio news are downplaying it by saying he resigned for 'kissing' a co-worker. Surely to god any sensible person realises it's a bit more than that! I highly doubt it was a spontaneous, spur of the moment thing 😅

He was in a government building, supposedly doing government work, he shouldn't have had any expectation of privacy to conduct an affair.

@Nancydrawn

According to the Daily Mail (so take it with a salt shaker), the tape was leaked from within Hancock's office by someone who disagreed about lockdowns and wanted Hancock out of the way for being too supportive of them.

The article, if you can bear to read it, has a very (unintentionally) funny graphic layout of the office that includes markers for "white board" and "Queen painting."

That's bang on what it's all about.

Anyone vulnerable - clinically, financially, or both, is absolutely fucked if the script goes the way it's being planned. And it likely will.

A country in the grip of a housing emergency. A whopping 165,000 people homeless in London alone. What did silent but deadly Rishi Sunak do? Pushed up the house prices, further inflating the unsustainable bubble. Locking more FTB out, trapping would be upsizers - families who've outgrown their starter home, and making an already intolerable situation bleaker for vulnerable homeless families (including many children).

Oh - and in the process of significantly worsening the housing emergency, he lost the taxpayer billions. During a pandemic. A time when that money was needed more than ever.

Anyone who faces redundancy or illness (Long Covid included) is in for a terrible time of it if silent but deadly Sunak becomes PM.

Still, the NIMBYs in Amersham and Chesham (those Lib Dem types who support freedom of movement but don't want new housing to meet the extra demand) will probably be happy. As will supporters of let the bodies pile up.

Tealightsandd · 27/06/2021 17:54

And, his brainless stamp duty holiday inflate the bubble is costing the taxpayer twice over.

First, in lost revenue. Over a billion pounds minimum.

And then, billions to fund housing the homeless families and disabled individuals in temporary accommodation (which is expensive). All part of the knock on impact of his scheme...because priced out FTB rent the homes the now homeless low income and disabled would've rented (had FTB been able to buy).

It would be extremely hard to find a chancellor with a poorer grasp of economics than George Osborne. Difficult too to match his psychopathic hate of the vulnerable and low income. But my goodness is Rishi Silent But Deadly Sunak giving it a good go.

Backhills · 27/06/2021 17:55

Perhaps, but all indications are that despite everything, it will be a Conservative win for the up coming by election, as it was for the last one, despite being seats Labour "should" win. People might be saying "anyone else" but that's not how they're voting.

JustLyra · 27/06/2021 17:58

Rishi Sunak is the politician that baffles me the most - the number of people who seem to think he’s just a normal guy with a normal background js utterly utterly baffling.

His parents may have had relatively normal jobs, but he went to an Indy boarding school and is the son-in-law of a billlionaire.

He’s got as much in common with most “normal” folks as Boris. Possibly even less.

Palaver1 · 27/06/2021 18:02

I hate the way he was spied on .
He was wanted out
What a price to pay for the lack of self discipline
The corruption stinks how the lady got into.the position
Everyone loses the families the children.
Can't believe he felt that he could ride it out good riddance.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 27/06/2021 18:13

@DareIask

I'm no fan but let's face it, if everyone who had broken a rule or had a bit on the side was sacked there wouldn't be many left working.

I don't like the way he was spied on and exposed either. That wouldn't be tolerated in the wider working world.

What an idiot though

Hmm. Ms Coladangelo and MH have been canoodling at work and Hancock's marriage is now over. The current Mrs Johnson and Bozo met at work , canoodled at some point at work, ended Bozos previous 27 year marriage, moved into no 10 with him and had his son. Everyone involved appears to be as despicable as the other but only one pair are in receipt of public contempt whilst the other can apparently do no wrong. I dont understand.

He's got a clever PR campaign. His Cummings (whoever they are) is good at their job.

Silent but deadly. Puts out a nice normal guy image. The reality is very different. As can be seen from his so far very poor economic decisions.

I'm reserving judgment on Sajid for now.
With Sunak? Well I guess he might hold his hands up, accept he's messed up so far? And then set out to repair the damage. Will he though? I have my doubts.

Bertiebiscuit · 27/06/2021 18:18

Our overlords will try to make this about why he was filmed and who leaked it - I don't care, maybe they will think a bit harder about keeping their own rules in future like the rest of us

Dave20 · 27/06/2021 18:24

I’ve said this before, the person who gave the cctv footage to the media should technically be charged with misconduct.
Whether the person works as a civil servant or is a contractor, they gave footage to the media. Even if this wasn’t for financial gain.
Civil servants or government contractors can be changed for misconduct in public office- a serious offence.
I’m sure the person responsible for the footage signed the official secrets act or something similar.

Boris will be next. They want him out. They want austerity mark two (and bodies piling up). Despite it being proven a false economy.

They have a nostalgia for George Osborne's failed economics (the man left us in more debt). Boris has spoken often of his determination to move away from austerity. They're going to get rid of him.

It's not Hancock they're ultimately after. It's Boris. And not for reasons that might please those who care about the average Joe. It's the very opposite.

They're going to get what they want. Boris will be gone. Will it be Rishi Silent But Deadly Sunak who replaces him? For the sake of the country, particularly (but definitely not just) for the poor and vulnerable, let's hope not. But it's very likely it will be.

longwayoff · 27/06/2021 18:32

The person who gave the CCTV footage to the media should receive a knighthood for performing a service in the public interest. Many previously oblivious politicians of all shades are now casting worried looks at the ceilings in their offices. Good. Maybe the behaviour of some will in future be appropriate for the workplace rather than a publicly funded knocking shop.

longwayoff · 27/06/2021 18:34

I know you're right tealights. Its grim.

I think most will agree, but the whistle blower gave the footage to the media, the person was in a position of trust and broke a code of conduct. Of course Hancock was caught bang to rights, but leaking information is taken very seriously by the authorities.
Im sure many MPs have done things they shouldn’t and been protected by others staff, who signed the official secrets act or similar disclosures.

Tealightsandd · 27/06/2021 18:45

They're clever.

Get the people (the plebs, as they see the public) all riled up, puffing with indignation over something that in reality wouldn't have impacted them. Regardless of what Hancock did, the need for restrictions was there. The bodies piled up and the hospitals didn't cope. Hancock's kiss (and the security breach that led to its leaking) changes none of that.

What's really important now isn't cutting off noses to spite faces.

Unfortunately people are easily manipulated and distracted.

And so the plan works.

Up in arms, braying for 'vengence', not thinking about what will really hurt them and their families. Personally harm them, rather than just a sense of short-lived 'it's not fair' outrage.

Behind the scenes. Silent But Deadly waits quietly, patiently. Smoothly going to plan.

People won't know what's hit them. And by then it will be too late.

The person who gave the CCTV footage to the media should be shot, in my opinion. Nasty, conniving, meddling individual - probably a bloody socialist.
Roussette · 27/06/2021 18:54

So they should be shot, but Hancock should just carry on as a Minister?

Is that what you're saying? Because without it, thats what would be happening. He would still be breaking all the restrictions he is subjecting us to.

Peregrina · 27/06/2021 18:56

Still, the NIMBYs in Amersham and Chesham

It's a digression as far as this thread goes, but if you know about housing in the south east you know that it isn't about nimbies but it's nice to portray it as that, to set groups against each other. Enough houses aren't being built because the big house builders who donate to the Tories only trickle houses onto the market to keep prices up. As for 'affordable' housing - that is a joke. Affordable is defined as 80% of market value - which when ordinary semis sell for £500,000 isn't many people's idea of affordable.

But I digress. Except it shows that the whole lot of the current Government are a money grubbing shower with few morals.
