For those that hang washing out on the line....

....do you also hang your underwear out? I do and ive never given it a second thought, but I saw my neighbour hang her washing out but take all her underwear back inside and it got me thinking, have I been brazenly displaying my knickers for years? Lightheartedly just wandering what others do.... 🙂

Yes I hang mine out. My neighbour who is around the same age as me never hangs her own out but will hang out husbands boxers. My elderly neighbour hangs hers out too.

SquashMinusIsShit · 23/06/2021 13:53

Yes on an airer though rather than the line, much easier to quickly bring in if it starts raining than unpegging eleventy billion socks and pants

BadgeronaMoped · 23/06/2021 13:54

I hang mine indoors, I really need to get over myself... I just don't like it when people drop round and my pants are on the line!!
A neighbour of ours always washes particular items together rather than washing mixed items by colour, so knickers, polo shirts, trousers. I love it when she's washed her knickers and hung them out, she hangs them a particular way and they look like bunting! DH thinks I am weird for noticing this.

Spudlet · 23/06/2021 13:54

Yes, although I probably wouldn’t if we were expecting visitors. Or I’d put it on the inside bits of the rotary line.

But even now, several frankly capacious pairs of pantaloons are dancing in the summer breeze Grin

TheDogsMother · 23/06/2021 13:55

I tend to hang it on the inner part of the rotary dryer and hang all the other stuff on the outer parts. Sometimes it is visible but its all matching and rather nice so I hope it improves my image with the neighbours Grin

Hallyup6 · 23/06/2021 13:55

Yeah, don't give a damn. Everyone wears underwear (I hope!).

megletthesecond · 23/06/2021 13:56

I put mine on an IKEA soctopus so they blend into each other.

Bigassbeebuzzbuzz · 23/06/2021 13:57

Yes on one of those little round peg things. I'm not fussed if others see my pants or bra on the line

Thisnamewasnttaken123 · 23/06/2021 13:57

No I don't hang mine out

UhtredRagnarson · 23/06/2021 14:00

Normally yes but I use one of those little sock peg hangers and I find it an awful fiddly thing so sometimes by the time I’ve hung the big stuff I can’t be arse fiddling around with the underwear so just bring it back in and fling it over the indoor airer and hope for the best. I hate dealing with socks and underwear. Fiddly shite.

IndanthroneBlue · 23/06/2021 14:00

My neighbour had a line full solely of large Y fronts in different colours the other day 😁 I hang my underwear out on the line, and cloth sanitary pads like someone else mentioned, do not care at all it's just fabric and I need to get it dry. Perhaps it will cheer someone up seeing my giant pants flying in the wind.

zukiecat · 23/06/2021 14:03

I used to hang out my underwear with everything else, until all of it was pinched by a knicker thief!

My DDs were young teenagers at the time and he stole their underwear too, dirty pervert.

Since then I've always dried underwear inside.

SirenSays · 23/06/2021 14:04

No, normal washing goes on the line and my delicates either get hung on little airer on patio or inside on radiators. Mostly because I can't be arsed to faff with the pegs tbh.
When my neighbours mum comes to stay she hangs out their pants in size order Grin

Wineat5isfine · 23/06/2021 14:06

I always hang underwear on the inside lines of my rotary line. Then place bigger items in front to cover them!

RubyGoat · 23/06/2021 14:06

We have a rotary line, last house we had a straight line in a completely overlooked yard. Always hang everything out, some of DH's socks are more hole than sock, I don't know how he does it. And his pants are really faded. Anyone who comes to size our house up for burglary will see we have no money & go away... there's always a silver lining!

We do have 2 of those sock hanger things though. Very useful.

GreyhoundG1rl · 23/06/2021 14:06

I miss my old neighbour, who used to regularly wash all her kids soft toys.
Nothing like a line full of teddies and bunnies pegged by their ears, swaying in the breeze to cheer up a gloomy day.

TulipVictory · 23/06/2021 14:12

All out on show here 🙈

Rockhopper81 · 23/06/2021 14:14

Generally I stick underwear and socks in the dryer (or on a socktopus from IKEA if going outside), just because it's a pain in the arse to peg out, not through embarrassment - shown by the fact I always peg out my cloth sanitary towels and period pants, and they're generally done in a wash on their own, so they're often the only things hung out! It's wet and needs drying - if the neighbours have an opinion, they've kept it to themselves so far. 😊

Puddington · 23/06/2021 14:15

I don't but it's 99% because I find it much more of a faff to peg up so many small things than to throw them on the clothes drier indoors. The remaining 1% is wild unfounded paranoia that they might blow away Grin

Tinkletwat · 23/06/2021 14:16

The generally go on the socktopus, otherwise I'd think my neighbours thought I didn't wear any. But the neighbours probably aren't thinking about my washing at all.

PattyPan · 23/06/2021 14:18

I don’t hang mine out but I sometimes hang DP’s pants out if there’s space (which there usually isn’t due to small garden) because he doesn’t care. I’ve got underwear and masks on an airer in a sunny spot by the back door at the moment and the rest of it on the line. We are mid terrace and have a straight line so anything on it is very visible.

FindingMeno · 23/06/2021 14:19

Bras and underpants - yes
Knickers- no
I guess I feel too exposed dangling my knickers around Grin

musthavebeenlove · 23/06/2021 14:22

I only dry my thongs inside the house, where we live it’s a very scandalous ‘foreign woman’ thing to wear, completely on par with the idea that we’re easy and over sexual. I don’t like the idea that my male neighbors see this, makes me highly uncomfortable.

diddl · 23/06/2021 14:24

I always used to and obviously on the inside of the rotary as that's where the smaller things go.

But recently have taken to just putting stuff on airers on the terrace apart from sheets & towels that go on the rotary.

Cassandraprobs · 23/06/2021 14:27

I don't but not out of modesty - I'd happily put them out but we only have so much space on the line and underwear dries quickly so it's a waste of space that could be used for towels or trousers, that's why I never peg it out.
