For those that hang washing out on the line....

....do you also hang your underwear out? I do and ive never given it a second thought, but I saw my neighbour hang her washing out but take all her underwear back inside and it got me thinking, have I been brazenly displaying my knickers for years? Lightheartedly just wandering what others do.... 🙂

@GreyhoundG1rl

but I saw my neighbour hang her washing out but take all her underwear back inside Maybe she was unnerved by your close scrutiny of her undergarments.
Yeah I thought I made myself sound a bit odd when I wrote that, but I promise I wasnt closely looking! It was just obvious to see.

I made sure to run upstairs and quickly put the telescope that point into their house away though, just in case suspicion was aroused.

I tumble dry underwear and socks but everything else goes on the line. That's only because I can't be bothered with pegging and unpegging them. Plus they tumble dry so quickly.

Before having a tumble dryer I used to put them on a pop up airer on the patio.

Theoldwoman · 23/06/2021 13:35

Of course I hang everything out! Your neighbour is odd!

idontlikealdi · 23/06/2021 13:37

I put mu knickers on the inside lines, no idea why, something my mother told me to do!

Angel2702 · 23/06/2021 13:37

Everything goes out. Underwear and socks go on the octopus hangers and stay near the house where the fence is higher so not really visible to the neighbours.

Quickchangeartiste · 23/06/2021 13:39

When I can be bothered it goes on the rotary dryer , but if I am in a rush the pants / socks get thrown in the tumble dryer.

SweatyBetty20 · 23/06/2021 13:39

Yep, all on display, mainly because it pisses off my neighbour who says that she doesn't like her husband seeing them. Besides, my knickers are FAR too big to go on a radiator or clothes maiden...

Yolanda524 · 23/06/2021 13:39

I usually do but if I’m saving on space I might dry them inside or if it’s not that warm I find they don’t dry well unless all individually pegged out and then I run out of space and pegs so I dry them inside. I never dry them inside because I’m embarrassed to hang them outdoors incase someone might see them.

Eileen101 · 23/06/2021 13:39

Yes, my granny pants are out on the line now with everything else. Oddly enough, I don't hang my bras out, no idea why! Although either MIL or FIL kindly did the other day when they emptied the machine for me Blush I tend to hang pants on the inside of a rotary line though, so the view is usually obscured by t shirts and nappies.

YouLookSoCool · 23/06/2021 13:40

Not usually, but not because I care at all what the neighbours think. It's just that they're small items and there's lots of them so more time and hassle to unpeg them and bring them back when they're dry/if it rains.

NotMeekNotObedient · 23/06/2021 13:40

Yes I do, even the sexy ones. Everyone wears underwear? I use an octopus thing.

Wheelibinsoutinthemorning · 23/06/2021 13:42

A path runs along bottom of my garden so I put outer garments on one line which I lift with a clothes prop, and underwear on a lower line without a prop so those things are hidden by the fences.

Also, I hang more personal underwear items nearer to the house with pillowcases etc near the path, and laugh at myself as I do it.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 23/06/2021 13:42

Ok, seems a split between the brazen, the conscious and the lazy!

Oldraver · 23/06/2021 13:44

Yes if it's hot enough to hang out

wendywoopywoo222 · 23/06/2021 13:44

I hang all my huge underwear out on my straight line. It's overlooked by quite a few neighbours. Never thought not too.

SamMaxFrankieDuke · 23/06/2021 13:44

I do.

DH makes a right feature presentation out of if. Looks like someone has just stepped out of bra and pants.

Theforest · 23/06/2021 13:47

I don't. Don't normally have enough room

Although when my mum was younger she had all her underwear stolen off her washing line so it's always creeped me out

daisyjgrey · 23/06/2021 13:49

All underwear/flannels/tea towels etc go on a socktapus which either hangs on the line or if there's no space/it's too windy, I hang it off the hook on the back of the laundry room door.

EBearhug · 23/06/2021 13:50

I do but I have a rotary line and hang it on the inner lines.

Yes, but because the inner lines are shorter and lower, so the sheets/duvet cover have to go on the outside. I don't care if my neighbours see them - they are clean, after all. Though I don't think I have seen my neighbours' undies on their line, but I haven't been taking notes and any thoughts are usually along the lines of, "blimey, they're being optimistic with those clouds!"

Mind you, if I don't get my honeysuckle under control soon, I won't be able to hang anything on my line. I already can't rotate it. Can't bear to cut it back till it's stopped flowering though, it smells so good, but it is shrinking the usable space in the garden.

Wanttocry · 23/06/2021 13:51

@RocheLobe

Yes I do and also my cloth sanitary towels. Never given it a second thought
Yep, me too.
Pixilicious · 23/06/2021 13:51

Yes and I have 2 of these that knickers socks and bras go on to save pegs and space.

TheQueef · 23/06/2021 13:51

My grundies go on the line.
Good burglar deterrent.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 23/06/2021 13:52

Socktopus for all underwear and socks, hung on a hook I’ve got in the garden.

babypeach · 23/06/2021 13:52

I generally keep underwear inside for drying but only because I have limited space/pegs and the underwear can easily dry inside leaving clothes to go outside!

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 23/06/2021 13:52

I do, like others on the inside of the rotary. But only if we’re not having people round - I don’t mind bedsheets, towels, nappies or baby clothes on the line if we’ve got friends over but I draw the line at our underwear Grin
