Yorkshire Puds

Do people eat Yorkies with anything? For years I only had them with roast beef & occasionally filled with bangers & mash but they seem to be served with all kinds of meat. I certainly wouldn’t eat them with lamb for example.

Very rarely have them, but when I do it's with pork or beef.

MrsDThomas · 21/06/2021 17:51

Pork
Beef
Chicken
Chicken chasseur
Sausage and mash

EverNapping · 21/06/2021 17:53

A friend from Yorkshire tells me that they must only ever be eaten with roast beef.

I didn't until I had kids, now yorkshires are their favourite part of any roast dinner, bangers and mash inside giant Yorkshire, toad in the hole for example.

GreenCrayon · 21/06/2021 17:54

I chuck them in whenever I fancy eating them, it doesn't matter what the meat is. No airs and graces in this house just a bunch of yorkie lovers.

stuckinarutatwork · 21/06/2021 17:54

Well traditionally they're only served with roast beef, but lots of people I know would have them with turkey, pork, chicken, gammon etc. Maybe not lamb though. They offer them with everything at Toby Carvery Smile

TheDogsMother · 21/06/2021 17:55

Just with beef.

Anjo2011 · 21/06/2021 17:56

Traditionally with beef. But in our house with every roast dinner , including Christmas.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 21/06/2021 17:58

We have them with roast beef, as toad in the hole and with sausage casserole instead of potatoes. They also make a brilliant nibble to go with pre-dinner G&Ts occasionally Wink

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 21/06/2021 17:59

With all meat here.

And jam.

I used to love working in Yorkshire where every single meal served in the b&b -- including breakfast - came with yorkies! My favourite starter was yorkshire pud with onion gravy - that was it. Delicious!
Arbadacarba · 21/06/2021 18:04

I read somewhere that Yorkshires were traditionally served before the main course, to fill you up so you wouldn't need as much (expensive) meat.

FrancesFlute · 21/06/2021 18:05

Any roast dinner here (in Yorkshire). Or toad in the hole

BackforGood · 21/06/2021 18:07

Traditionally they were only for roast beef, but they are so nice, we have them with any roast dinner, and have done for years.

Exactly that. We always had Yorkshire Puds before the main course and my mum's were delicious. She was very Hmm about having them with other food.

The meat was irrelevant!

miltonj · 21/06/2021 18:11

I'd say they're best with beef or toad in the hole but will happily eat them with anything and also on their own. (Easy Yorkshire born and bred)

JollyAndBright · 21/06/2021 18:12

I make them pretty much every Sunday regardless of whether we are having a ‘full’ roast.

Yorkshire’s and roast potatoes are my favourite part of a roast so are always included with any kind of roast.

Last week because of the warm weather we had a ‘summery roast’,

lemon and herb roasted potatoes, asparagus, sugar snap peas, garlicy kale and spring greens, roasted peppers, almond and cashew ‘stuffing’, Yorkshire puddings and a light gravy.

It was lovely.

LeSquigh · 21/06/2021 18:14

We have them with all meat here, including with just sausages and mash. It’s not a roast dinner without Yorkshire’s!

I remember being lambasted by colleagues years ago who couldn’t believe I had them with chicken 🙄

BeBloodyBold · 21/06/2021 18:15

Well now I'm going to have to have one for my tea!

MsSquiz · 21/06/2021 18:15

We have them with a roast dinner, regardless of meat choice. We also have them with sausage and mash. When I was pregnant I regularly got a craving for Yorkshire puddings dipped in gravy

When I was a kid, my DM would serve them with jam or dipped in sugar or drizzled with golden syrup for a Sunday afternoon treat! Grin

Crockof · 21/06/2021 18:16

Not traditional just with beef. Traditional as a starter with gravy, to fill up people before the meat course as meat was expensive.

I eat them with anything, especially cheese as a sandwich

I'm from Yorkshire and we used to eat them warm from the oven with jam in. Eat them how you like
TinaYouFatLard · 21/06/2021 18:21

We have Yorkies on every possible occasion. With all roast meat, sausage and mash and my favourite - a giant one filled with lamb stew!

peboh · 21/06/2021 18:27

Yorkshire's with every roast, no matter the meat. With stews, gravy based casserole, with bangers and mash. Basically anything I have with gravy I'll sneak a couple Yorkshire's in.

user1471538283 · 21/06/2021 18:31

We have them with everything! My DGF used to have them with treacle after his dinner!
