So I can't go to sports day but ....

10,000 different crowds at Royal Ascot can go ahead each day and crowds of football fans can gather.

When will people wake up and realise this is all UTTER bollox.

Even if you've had the 2 vaccines you can still pass Covid on and catch Covid - what's the point in having it, still having to wear masks and social distance.

I was totally compliant up until this shit.

Fuck off am I doing it anymore.

22,000 people, all tested, went to Wembley. That's not the same as 100,000s parents going to sports days, untested, up and down the country.

Wilberforce42 · 20/06/2021 06:48

Do you really think they tested 22000 people and that all the test results would have been accurate? Come on. We’re being played and have been for ages.

Kitkatchunkyplease · 20/06/2021 06:50

They had to show proof of 2 vaccines or a negative test. Parents could do that too so I don't see why that's so much worse than crowds of football fans at Wembley Ifailed.

Not to mention, at sports day your children have already all been mixing, so introducing parents into the mix, outside, surely is no issue.

I'm going to a wedding soon. There will be social distancing, no music and no dancing. There is one rule for some and one for another. We can't pretend it makes sense now.

I don’t know how far you have to travel to attend your children’s sports day but I’ll hazard a guess that the people who attended Wembley travelled a whole lot further. Plus parents of school children should be testing twice a week anyway. And it would be the same parents who are already visiting the school daily for drop off and pick ups

You honestly believe they tested that amount of people 2-3 days before!?

Totally agree OP - it seems one rule for one and a 'pilot' scheme for another.

Idonotwantitthanks · 20/06/2021 06:56

Agree op. I can’t see the problem with parents standing outside watching sports day. It’s only like them standing outside the school gate for drop off. I too, am totally sick of this now and really feel for those kids who were looking forward to their proms which are now cancelled. Can’t understand why they can’t go ahead, after all, they’d only be mixing with their school year anyway

But even if you've had 2 vaccines you can still be positive - happened to a colleague. Also, tests are not always accurate. Plenty of false negatives / positives.

School started with saying we could attend sports day with negative lateral flow tests. Now changed their minds

CustardyCreams · 20/06/2021 06:57

I agree op, it’s ridiculous. So upset for our kids, it feels like such a long time when you are a kid.

Obviously there is no money involved in sports days so the government doesn’t give a shit.

Wembley is already set-up to check the credentials of everyone who enters, it has the staff & infrastructure. Not all schools are like this, when I lived in SE London most primaries held sports day in the local park as their playgrounds were unsuitable (too small, concreted etc.)

I suspect many schools just don't have the time, space or staff to set up a sports day with secure perimeters and manned entry points.

iminthegarden · 20/06/2021 06:59

Hubby went to Edgbaston cricket and it was self testing and self verification so I'm sure it's not accurate by any means.

It would be 60 parents at the very max. It's just 1 year group at a small independent school with 20 acres.

The kids are all mixing and going home to their families every day. The parents are mixing at pick up time.

You're not increasing any risk at all by having 20-30 (not tens of thousands) parents sat socially distanced outside on a field supporting their kids. It's madness someone has decided this can't happen

tonystarksrighthand · 20/06/2021 07:02

You're right @cakeandcustard

It's not just the sports day that has made me feel like this, it's the icing on the cake.

None of it makes sense anymore.

Lightbulbfriend · 20/06/2021 07:02

There can’t be many schools with no outside space whatsover. Surely they could adapt the usual format /reduce numbers etc.

Clickbait · 20/06/2021 07:02

Even if you've had the 2 vaccines you can still pass Covid on and catch Covid - it's far less likely though.

FlamingGoat · 20/06/2021 07:03

I completely agree . Its ridiculous Download is allowed but you can't have music at a wedding.
Ascot can happen but you can't have sports day outside.
I'm so over this shit now.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 20/06/2021 07:03

School sports day doesn't earn them money. They wonder why there is so much distrust in the government but they are leaving room for it.

Safety matters, for the greater good, just a few more weeks. Whatever bullshit they want to peddle out.

Lightbulbfriend · 20/06/2021 07:03

To be clear I’m absolutely not blaming the schools-I know they are just following the ridiculous guidelines they’ve been given

We had a letter 2 weeks ago, negative lateral flow and we could attend.

Friday - nah ... fuck you all, it's "too risky"

iminthegarden · 20/06/2021 07:04

Sports days are outside, you know that place where not a single global covid outbreak has been recorded - the fresh air! Thousands packed theme parks and holiday resorts in half term, in restaurants and attractions. It's the end of term, let parents in! Yes those vaccinated can catch and spread, so can children. We've accepted that will happen going forward, as the vaccination offers a huge amount of protection from serious illness, now let's stop this nonsense and open the hell up!

tonystarksrighthand · 20/06/2021 07:04

@Clickbait

It's far less likely to catch it outside in 20 acres of school grounds.
