10,000 different crowds at Royal Ascot can go ahead each day and crowds of football fans can gather.

When will people wake up and realise this is all UTTER bollox.

Even if you've had the 2 vaccines you can still pass Covid on and catch Covid - what's the point in having it, still having to wear masks and social distance.

I was totally compliant up until this shit.

Fuck off am I doing it anymore.

hownowbrowncowz · 20/06/2021 07:20

I had an email from DS' school saying one parent from each household can attend?

I agree though OP it's complete bollocks and I'm not complying with any of it ever again.

TurtleBay28 · 20/06/2021 07:20

But you can meet 30 of your mates outside if you want too... makes no sense.

Okay then.

Do a class at a time on sports day. Make a week of it so get all the classes in and do a couple of classes a day to get everyone in so they can have 30 parents even if it's just the one parent to watch their child on sports day.

If there are more than 30 children in a class. Half the class. One in the morning, one in the afternoon.

Wilberforce42 · 20/06/2021 07:22

Er I’m on your side - definitely not happy to continue with nonsensical rules

TurtleBay28 · 20/06/2021 07:22

Also I've been so strict with the rules and I said to my partner if it comes to another lockdown I'm not locking myself away again for a year because they can't get their finger out their arse then blame us for the spreading of it.

I only see my mum and dad and siblings anyway but with LFT. They can fuck right off if they think I'm doing it again.

Sparklingbrook · 20/06/2021 07:26

I agree not much of this makes sense any more.
However I am one of those weirdos who would have been delighted to give Sports Day a miss. I never enjoyed watching it at all.

Onlinedilema · 20/06/2021 07:27

The football thing completely missed me off. Apparently the FIFA rules are this:
All fans have to have 2 covid tests one 5 days before the match they are attending and one 2 days before. Both have to be negative. If one is positive then a standby can can take their place as long as they test negative. I m not buying that every single one of those fans jam packed into the stadiums tested 100% negative with extremely reliable tests. It can't be true.
That the standby fans had a test 5 days and 2 days before too. Why would they do that with no guarantee they could go to the match. Where have all these fans been 2 weeks before the match, not self isolating I can 100% guarantee that.
Basically what I am saying is certain types of people are allowed to do what the fuck they like. Football, alcohol drinking fans in a nutshell, typically male and let's be honest they are not the most hygienic of people are they?
Yes I know some fans will be women blah blah blah. But there is serious preferential treatment going on here.
Certain sections of society have had to forsake far more than others and for no valid reason.
Why can't theatres do this testing?
You must be joking if you think it would spread more in a theatre.
It's all picking and choosing to pacify certain demographics.

newnortherner111 · 20/06/2021 07:28

I am surprised given the Old Etonian Prime Minister that guidance to have school sports days was not given. Unless he was an embarrassment at them or dodged them to avoid scrutiny (as he has done with everything else including his private life).

YANBU to be annoyed at the inconsistency. Though there will be some parents who are secretly glad not to go, of course.

millenialblush · 20/06/2021 07:28

We can go to sports day but we have to wear a mask (outside), socially distance and stay in family bubbles. It makes no sense! If I'm distanced and with my family then why do I have to cover my face?

Onlinedilema · 20/06/2021 07:31

Just read about the self testing. Hmmmm so why can't theatre goers or sports day goers self test?
I wondering it's to do with demographics?
Basically it's total bollocks.

Mintjulia · 20/06/2021 07:34

Commercial events are willing to put in the infrastructure and take the risk because they need to make money. Schools are trying desperately to stay open and avoid a outbreak before the end of term as this new wave increases.

My ds's school has withdrawn the invitation for parents to attend sports day although it will still go ahead. I understand your frustration but I can see it from the school's side too.

OneYeminRoad · 20/06/2021 07:35

My school is a two form entry and we have gone back to separate class playtimes rather than the whole year group together because of the new guidelines. 😭

No parents for sports day. We are having a single class sports day and the most depressing part about it is that the children just think that this is what sports day is!

Sparklingbrook · 20/06/2021 07:37

As a PP said about the cricket at Edgbaston DS went. He had to do a test the day before, on the day or day after , and 5 days later. I’m not sure schools could cope with the admin of that type of arrangement could they? Just less hassle to not bother I think. But the children still get to do Sports Day minus the spectators.

iminthegarden · 20/06/2021 07:39

@Sparklingbrook my hubby didn't do any testing on the day or any after, it was all optional. He just had to do the one before and he said most of them weren't checked.

Onlinedilema · 20/06/2021 07:42

Sparking what test did he have to do? Was lateral flow acceptable? Who checked his results? Sorry for all the questions. I'm not buying it can't be faked in really not. Let 's just say I know people who have faked the results.

Sunnysideup999 · 20/06/2021 07:42

I feel the same. It’s desperately sad. Kids are being totally discarded.
They have now lost two sports days from their childhood.
You only get one childhood Ffs

PinkG0ld · 20/06/2021 07:45

The G7 summit too… politicians posing for a “socially distanced” photo, but then shoulder to shoulder with all their wealthy friends and partners at a BBQ party. They’re laughing at us. Deaths are incredibly low. We need to go back to our normal way of living.

Sorry I'm so cheesed off this morning.

userchange8945 · 20/06/2021 07:49

We are going to Silverstone F1, 120,000ish people but nope can't go to sports day 🙄

MistyMinge2 · 20/06/2021 07:50

I agree, it's all a bloody farce now. They can't expect people to toe the line anymore when it's so inconsistent.

Sparklingbrook · 20/06/2021 07:52

He did a LFT (from the kits I have sent to home ) and registered the test online. This enabled him to show the negative result to the steward on the door. The queues to do this were very long apparently. The next two tests were sent to him and he had to do the test and post the kit back (not knowing the result). This was emailed to him after.
Sparklingbrook · 20/06/2021 07:54

@princesslarmadrama

Am I the only parent happy to not have to go to sports days this year 😂
Not at all. I would have been thrilled not to have to go. Found them so boring. It was a novelty the first time but I did a solid 8 years of them. When they got rained off I was delighted.
AndAllOurYesterdays · 20/06/2021 07:55

I am not bothered at all about not seeing sports day. But it makes no logical sense- outdoor events are very low risk. Most of the attendees will mix at pick up and drop off anyway. While schools cannot insist on testing, they can on masks and distancing.

Sunflowergirl1 · 20/06/2021 07:56

I've been out on two weekends now. Both restaurants full. No one wearing masks moving about...waiters and bar staff had masks hanging around their necks. I think everyone is fed of it and in some way, the fact that this is how people are behaving and deaths are still low says it is at a point where we live with it.

10 deaths a day is awful....but a heavy flu year of 24000 deaths is 66 per day. We need some perspective and I'm afraid those people who refuse to get vaccinated for whatever reason have chosen to take the risk

LAlady · 20/06/2021 07:59

Ascot is part of a test scheme. I live not far from there and know people going.

One PCR test before the day they go and a further PCR test 5 days' after. You also have to do a LFT within 36 hours of attending. You provide personal info in case someone tests positive and have to follow self isolation rules etc.

They both got free tickets provided. Tests were sent by courier.
