10,000 different crowds at Royal Ascot can go ahead each day and crowds of football fans can gather.

When will people wake up and realise this is all UTTER bollox.

Even if you've had the 2 vaccines you can still pass Covid on and catch Covid - what's the point in having it, still having to wear masks and social distance.

I was totally compliant up until this shit.

Fuck off am I doing it anymore.

OP posts:
toots111 · 20/06/2021 08:02

I know someone who went to Wembley and no one checked whether they had a negative test or not.

Bramblespoint · 20/06/2021 08:05

Totally agree OP Angry

Also as the vaccinations take affect cases rise in school age children so they are being disproportionately affected by isolating.

How many school age kids have had more than one period of isolation from close contact? How many adults have (periods not related to kids) I bet it's a lot less.

This is so damaging for our kids how much longer are we going to just accept it? Schools are doing their best but obviously have to work from the guidance they are given

lavenderandwisteria · 20/06/2021 08:05

I think everybody knows that some people will hate sports days, and school plays, and even talking to another person, and that’s fine.

What isn’t fine is the barely concealed glee about it.

MildredPuppy · 20/06/2021 08:06

i actually think the main issue with school events is children legally have to attend school. You have a problem when half the parents think sports day should go ahead and many others think it shouldnt. In normal life the half that are cautious can just not go or not send their child. In school life their child has to attend. Schools get the benefit of all the parent comments so both the 'its ourageous you arent doing sports day' and 'thank god you arent my child has diabetes and.we were nervous' . Schools have to look at their own cohort, premises and staff capacity and weigh it up for themselves.

LunaNorth · 20/06/2021 08:10

@Onlinedilema

The football thing completely missed me off. Apparently the FIFA rules are this: All fans have to have 2 covid tests one 5 days before the match they are attending and one 2 days before. Both have to be negative. If one is positive then a standby can can take their place as long as they test negative. I m not buying that every single one of those fans jam packed into the stadiums tested 100% negative with extremely reliable tests. It can't be true. That the standby fans had a test 5 days and 2 days before too. Why would they do that with no guarantee they could go to the match. Where have all these fans been 2 weeks before the match, not self isolating I can 100% guarantee that. Basically what I am saying is certain types of people are allowed to do what the fuck they like. Football, alcohol drinking fans in a nutshell, typically male and let's be honest they are not the most hygienic of people are they? Yes I know some fans will be women blah blah blah. But there is serious preferential treatment going on here. Certain sections of society have had to forsake far more than others and for no valid reason. Why can't theatres do this testing? You must be joking if you think it would spread more in a theatre. It's all picking and choosing to pacify certain demographics.
Absolutely THIS

@tonystarksrighthand yesterday DH and I went to the pub with a couple of our friends. Shortly after we arrived so did the entire teacher compliment of years EYFS, YR1 & YR2 so 12 teachers. Now, I dont know why they were there but they spent the afternoon playing drinking games, doing the conga Confused, at one stage they played kiss chase (our pub garden is on a huge open field with a play park dropped in the middle, a path separates the pub grass & the field). Yet, we cant go to sports day and still have to wear masks.

Alcesalces · 20/06/2021 08:13

I'm sick of it too. The rules are not consistent. They seem to be relaxed when money is involved.

A student in my class tested positive so had to identify the students who sat near him and will need to isolate. Not me though despite him sitting very close to my desk! Apparently, Covid knows not to cross the tape around the teacher's desk.

I hate all the testing and I don't believe for one minute people are doing it properly.

Nymo · 20/06/2021 08:17

I’ve just had to tell 20 friends and family members that they cannot attend my son’s baptism. We always knew that the date may not go ahead but it is still frustrating. We can 30 but the church can accommodate 70 socially distanced during mass but because it is a separate service we can have 30. We are hoping weather will allow us to have cake and drink with everyone afterwards as we can no longer do that inside. Half our family are yet to meet our son because of distance between us and family, the various tiers last year and my husband working away. All adults due to be in attendance have had one vaccine, the majority two doses. The children, bar my son, all do lateral flows for school.
I get the need for test events but it is pretty galling.

TobyLeRhone · 20/06/2021 08:33

It's bollocks and it is now tiresome. They will have a low uptake of any booster vaccines that are offered in the winter if they don't start unlocking those who have done all they can to conform and protect others.

Benjispruce3 · 20/06/2021 08:33

@Sunflowergirl1 I’ve been out too, several times. Everyone following the rules, masks on entry and moving around. We are so nearly there, no vaccine is 100% but it is working. Why would we be being played? What is the motive?

Florin · 20/06/2021 08:34

Our sports day is going ahead next week, years 3-8 all day Saturday event and everyone bringing picnics. Quite frankly keeping parents away is crazy as what difference does it make when the kids are all hugging each other etc. to be honest class bubbles seem a bit crazy and that is coming from someone with an only child. What is the point with class bubbles when in my child’s year between them they have a sibling in each of the years from nursery to year 8. Therefore we have had events at school where for example other parents in our year can hang out with nursery parents as they have a child in both nursery and our child’s year but we can’t mix with our personal friends who go to the school as their child is in nursery and our child is further up in the school, it is beyond crazy!

ihearttc · 20/06/2021 08:35

@userchange8945

As far as I know Silverstone hasn’t actually been confirmed as going ahead yet? DH and my sons are supposed to be going.

Benjispruce3 · 20/06/2021 08:35

@Alcesalces that’s strange. At my school, it’s all staff in the class too. According to PHE.

MarshaBradyo · 20/06/2021 08:35

I know op it’s ridiculous right now

Benjispruce3 · 20/06/2021 08:36

Our sports day is going ahead , just no parents.

RoseAndRose · 20/06/2021 08:37

10,000 different crowds at Royal Ascot can go ahead each day and crowds of football fans can gather

Ok, then get your school, sports day accepted as a trial, to see fit further grassroots outdoors events with schools ectators can go ahead.

And to be like Ascot, you need to runat only 1/7th your normal crowd size.

How will you sort out who gets to attend?

ClaireB29 · 20/06/2021 08:39

Couldn't agree more

IndiaMay · 20/06/2021 08:40

Yep. Hymns and singing not allowed at my wedding. No dancing allowed. Everyone must remain seated all day at socially distanced tables. Not allowed to stand up without putting a mask on (unless you're outside). No drinks reception or canapes allowed. Speeches recommended to only be outside to avoid spread. Then you see ascot, Wembley, G7 etc. Makes me sick.

Sometimesfraught82 · 20/06/2021 08:41

Your school didn’t need to cancel it entirely

My children’s brilliant school just adjusted plans. Two guests only.

Everything going ahead as planned.

vegas888 · 20/06/2021 08:42

@Ifailed

22,000 people, all tested, went to Wembley. That's not the same as 100,000s parents going to sports days, untested, up and down the country.
22,000 were all together with little or no social distance. As far as I’m aware 22,000 people don’t turn up at one place for sports day. 🙄
MarshaBradyo · 20/06/2021 08:43

Talks of stopping isolation of double vaccinated. No mention of when to stop for children. Insane. What can you even do expect feel highly annoyed. Pathetic situation

Howzaboutye · 20/06/2021 08:44

It's obvious isn't it? Football fans will riot if they don't get what they want. Alot of expensive destruction. Parents don't riot. So we are pushed around.

Sparklingbrook · 20/06/2021 08:47

Football fans will riot if they don’t get what they want? They seemed to manage ok last year not being able to go to any games at all without ‘rioting’. Perhaps parents should riot?
SofiaMichelle · 20/06/2021 08:50

Those of you who are up in arms about these pilot events, do you understand why they're being held in this way?

The primary purpose isn't to allow spectators to watch the events, or festival goers to enjoy a festival, it's to test how well the systems in place can cope with a return to normal - i.e. can we start to live alongside COVID.

The virus is never going to go away. We are going to have to start to live with it. These events allow scientists to monitor the interactions, see which activities and behaviours result in infections and work out how to combat those effects.

I watched a news excerpt yesterday where a scientist at Download Festival explained why they wanted the mosh pits open and didn't want any enforcement of social distancing in them - it's all part of their evaluations.

So whilst from the outside it looks like "one rule for some, another for others", it's being done for a reason. It's just that some lucky people get to enjoy their activities as a result of it.

I'm also gutted that some events don't get to benefit. We enjoy motorcycle racing and would have been at the opening round of the BSB championship next weekend but it looks like it will either be no spectators or very limited, even though it's an outdoor event held in hundreds of acres of parkland.

tiredanddangerous · 20/06/2021 08:52

My dcs school has cancelled sports day altogether. They do it in a public park so there's no way they'd be able to stop parents attending.

I'm not upset about the lack of sports day but I'm getting angrier at the total lack of common sense involved in all these "rules".
