What to do/eat/drink in Liverpool?

Just DP and I going for a couple of nights next month as we have a hotel voucher which needs using.

We’re early 30s and like good food, fancy cocktail bars, live music, shopping, activities like bowling or cinema. How should we spend our time? DP is also a Liverpool fan but not fanatical about football so is a stadium tour worth it? Or is there something better to see?

Oh and we’re staying at the Pullman if that helps

I had a great meal at Salt House Tapas pre-pandemic, along with some lovely cocktails. The Florist was also good for cocktails and Abditory was fun and really friendly.

Only been with dc however so obviously a different type of weekend. We enjoyed some great museums, the water front is lovely, open top tour bus, China Town, there was also an area just off the front with lots of restaurants.
It was easy to get around and if you're going by train it's very central.
One of my favourite city breaks we've had.

I'd recommend Bakchich for Lebanese street food - on Bold Street

Also the Sandeman's walking tour - it's free but you pay a tip of how much you like at the end

There's a gin bar, can't remember the name.
Red Door and The Merchant are supposed to be good bars. There's a few rooftop bars and restaurants.

Obviously lots about the Beatles, both cathedrals are amazing, good museums and brilliant shops.

DinosaurDiana · 18/06/2021 15:10

Revolution de Cuba on Albert Dock.

BackforGood · 18/06/2021 15:13

You can pop into the Cavern Club.
Both Cathedrals are definitely worth visiting
The Docks area is lovely to walk along and there are some fabulous museums there.
Liverpool is a lovely City for a short break. Lots to see and do and all walkable.

Villa romana in Liverpool prob the nicest Italian food I've eaten in a long time and a Devine dessert trolley! Not sure what street it's on but not far from bold street area!

EishetChayil · 18/06/2021 15:29

Bold Street and Hope Street are the business for food and drink.

Sefton Park is lovely if it's a nice day. A hidden gem is Greenbank Park and the Watering Can café.

I second this! My husband and I had our wedding after party here.

It's on Wood Street. Super central.

Just been last week and had a meal at the docks - lovely. Only problem is, came home and couple of days lates NHS app tells me
to self isolate after checking in somewhere where someone else has since tested positive for covid. Stuck home now for another four days! Grrrr.
I had a lovey time while I was there though and I, thankfully, have no symptoms.

Ginfilledcats · 18/06/2021 16:51

Bars:
Liverpool arts bar (amazing live scene for local talent)
Alma de Cuba

Food:
Duke street market
Mowgli
Wreckfish
Matou

Activities
Take a walk around the Albert dock and pop into the Liverpool museum, good stuff about the music scene and the football but about the city in general.
The maritime and slavery museum are excellent.
ArCains is a bar and vintage arcade place
Ghetto golf

balzamico · 18/06/2021 17:18

Eek @scryingeyes me & dd are off there next week!!

scryingeyes · 18/06/2021 18:18

It's a pain in the ass but am so thankful that I have no symptoms. Not 100% sure which place I checked into had the positive customer, but I wore a
mask when needed,
washed/ sanitised and socially distanced 100%.

However, some of the bars were very busy.

DinaofCloud9 · 18/06/2021 18:21

Mowgli for Indian food.
Casa Italia for Italian

SaborDeSoledad · 18/06/2021 18:57

So lucky!

Baltic Market for independent food pop-ups and live music. The ghetto golf isn't far from there.

SaborDeSoledad · 18/06/2021 18:58

FACT for independent/world cinema

gobbynorthernbird · 18/06/2021 20:13

Present company for cocktails.

Verbena87 · 18/06/2021 20:18

Definitely Mowgli but there are great places to eat all along Bold Street.

It’s years since I’ve been (pre-motherhood) but Berry and Rye is great fun for cocktails: speakeasy with limited capacity and a great atmosphere.

The crispy Vietnamese sea bass at Host is to die for.

user1471453601 · 18/06/2021 20:26

My DD and I did the LFC stadium tour. It was epic. But we are die hard supporters.

A " legend" comes round with you and does a Q&a session. You get to s it in the changing room and walk down the tunnel onto the pitch. Well, not actually on the pitch but into the technical area. The tour also included free entrance into the museum with a commentary by Sue Johnson.
we also got a free picture of us holding a replica of the European Cup
But, id imagine it's tedious for a non fan. So I wouldn't blame you if you didn't mention this response to your partner.

SaborDeSoledad · 18/06/2021 20:27

@Verbena87 I think Host is gone! Such a shame, was lovely.

Sensateria · 18/06/2021 20:39

Bottomless brunch at Lu Ban - it’s Chinese fusion food and their cocktails are delicious (and unlimited during bottomless brunch).

Liverpool One for shopping and cinema.

Baltic Market for drinks, live music and street food.

Boujee if your life revolves around Instagram photo opportunities. Neighbourhood and Dash likewise.

Jahebejrjr · 18/06/2021 20:44

I still miss the Bang Bang Chicken Salad and Crispy Squid from Host.

DrEllie · 18/06/2021 20:45

Chinatown is great for food - and nearby Bold Street is one of my favourite places. LFC tour is very good and I'm not a fan (great community pie shop opposite too). Albert dock/Tate Liverpool are must see. Try the Philharmonic pub in Hope St

Jahebejrjr · 18/06/2021 20:46

Shiverpool are doing tours again. Highly recommended.
