Single treat for £1,400 ideas please

I know I might get lots of grief for this but I'm really lucky to be in this position and would like to make the most of it so I'm turning to MN for inspiration. I have been given £1,400 to spend on a treat. It mustn't be something useful but something I would never spend money on myself. And it must one one thing so it can't be three expensive pairs of shoes for example.

I rarely spend so much on a single treat so I'm looking for ideas. Not holidays because I have already saved for a holiday and am not keen to spend this money on another holiday or a spa break or similar.

I am into crafting (but really wouldn't spend this kind of money on it!), interior and garden design, I love entertaining, and would like some facial surgery (keen on those threads that lift your face up). Any ideas? Thank you.

Ooh, I’m jealous!

I’d probably replace my bed with the very best bed and mattress I could find. Or get a hot tub (although I know most of MN thinks they’re dirty sex ponds Grin).

My first thought was a year of personal training but then I remembered that would involve exercise, so ... no.

I think if someone is giving you a gift with good intentions then you should be able to buy 3 things you love to add up to £1400 rather than 1 thing you dont love as much/love the same but it's 3 times the price.

For that money I'd book a trip that I wouldn't do otherwise, or would have to do on the cheap. Wimbledon had hospitality tickets includind centre court for £750 approx per person. Glyndebourne? Life membership of a museum you love?

If there's a piece of art or handbag or shoes or furniture that you love then by all means go for it.

Palavah · 17/06/2021 15:31

What would you love to be able to use when entertaining? When gardening? An amazing gazebo? Beautiful glassware?

Love the bed idea. Or just an amazing mattress. Or getting fitted wardrobes or a specific home improvement done. Or pay a gardener to come in and lay out a new garden area.

CompanyCrowdFight · 17/06/2021 15:34

With those constraints, I'd guess the giver wants you to get something you can keep as a memento. My choices would be jewellery, art or a fossil!

OhDearShirley · 17/06/2021 15:38

Ubercool baby lock airthreaded overlocker/coverstitch? Depends on what type of craft you're in to

InTheNameOfAllThatIsHonest · 17/06/2021 15:39

I like the idea of art. I once bought a limited-run print by my favourite photographer and that was £600. I love the print but paying for it was painful! So another piece of art with this money is a good option.

Springfree trampoline! Amazing in every way and silent

Laska2Meryls · 17/06/2021 15:44

Electric bike ? Such fun and I can now go up hills !

VodkaSlimline · 17/06/2021 15:44

I'd get something lovely for your house or garden - art, a statement piece of furniture, really nice outdoor furniture, a water feature if that's your sort of thing...

MerylSqueak · 17/06/2021 15:47

I like craft too and if I were you I'd pay for a course to teach me a new skill.

Or a lovely piece of jewellery.

Or a beautiful piece of furniture, like an armchair or chaise longue

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 17/06/2021 15:49

If you like crafting what about one of those fancy pull out cupboards that can store everything?

idontlikealdi · 17/06/2021 15:53

Oh get the surgery, whatever you can afford. It's money to do what YOU want!

GenderApostatemk2 · 17/06/2021 15:55

Why must it only be one thing? If you want a few nice things then buy them!
I’d probably buy a pure wool mattress, duvet and pillows plus fabulous linen or cotton sheets, something I would appreciate every single day.

OlivesTree · 17/06/2021 15:57

I would buy art.

partyatthepalace · 17/06/2021 15:57

Art
Bed
Amazing weekend away
Jewellery - but only something like diamond earings you’d wear all the time
Face surgery fine if it’s enough to do what you want

partyatthepalace · 17/06/2021 15:58

Garden sculpture..

inappropriateraspberry · 17/06/2021 15:59

If you want to invest it then art or jewellery. If you want to squander it, then some expensive shoes!

Gettingbiggerandbigger · 17/06/2021 16:00

If I was spending that on 1 treat just for me then Art or Jewellery I think. There is an artist I’ve always wanted to commission to do a piece for me though it would probably cost more than £1400 though. I’d love cosmetic surgery but again would need more than that in what I want.

Bloodyfuckit · 17/06/2021 16:00

Perfect! I have one and I absolutely love it!
SMaCM · 17/06/2021 16:00

Lifetime membership of the National Trust £1730 if that's something that interests you. Could you buy one voucher to your favourite place/shop, so you can spend it on different occasions?

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 17/06/2021 16:01

It's probably more than £1,400 cos it's 'contact for price' but I'd buy something like this David Shrigley work.

I would book into a crafting course a d then buy tools and supplies to do it from home

Bloodyfuckit · 17/06/2021 16:02

@idontlikealdi

You cant get any meaningful surgery done for £1400. Dont waste your money trying. If you're between about 46 and 52, you could go to a good doctor to get some mid face filler though.
