Minging question about cysts

I'm so grossed out and embarrassed to be writing this but I have a cyst on my shoulder about the size of a small grape. It doesn't bother me aesthetically since it's on my back.

For the past few months I've occasionally got whiff of a gross smell (like the smell of a piercing) when I turned my head. I couldn't understand it because I could sometimes smell it when I was freshly out the shower. Turns out the cyst gives off a gross smell when I'm hot. Sad I do have a SUPER sensitive nose and DP says he can't smell it at all (and I do think he'd tell me if could, he has form for being honest about embarrassing stuff) but I'm so embarrassed by it now and I don't want to get close to anyone. Sad

Has anyone had experience? NHS website says they don't remove them but my local private hospital says on average it's £450 to have it removed! Has anyone had one taken off on the NHS? It used to not bother me but now I hate it Sad

Er sorry op, that wasn’t helpful!

Frogsonglue · 14/06/2021 20:12

Give it a really good squeeze!!!

HangingOver · 14/06/2021 20:13

Give it a really good squeeze

I can't! It's like a under the skin lump, it's not a spot.

Take a photo, post in Sporner Corner, and you’ll have a lot of... er, helpful comments.

More sensibly, go to your GP.

YourCakesAreShit · 14/06/2021 20:16

You need Sporner Corner.

HangingOver · 14/06/2021 20:17

.....what in God's name is a sporner do I want to know? Shock

Aloe vera, like real aloe vera plant not some lotion.

Take the plant, slice the sharp spikey bit off the edge then slice it down the centre and peel it open like how you make a banana split. Then place it over the cyst - wrap in gauze and padding/ medical tape etc - whatever you can to force it in place. Then keep changing it until it draws it out. One day you will wake up and your whole shoulder will be dark sticky purple and you will think something terrible has happened. That is the end of the process lol.

RubixRubicon · 14/06/2021 20:19

OP get thee to Sporner Corner

Any cyst should be properly checked out by a GP and we’ve definitely had them dealt with on the NHS.

HangingOver · 14/06/2021 20:27

Spot porn

You are all absolutely mad Grin

GP did look at it when I first got it and she said "sebaceous cyst, nothing to worry about" and that was it. That was about 3 years ago.

NHS won't remove for purely cosmetic reasons but if it genuinely is producing a smell that would be worth further investigation.

There's people in sporner's corner who would pay you £450.

ArosGartref · 14/06/2021 20:29

Cross post - it it's a sebaceous cyst you can pop that yourself. It'll be amazing.

WingingItSince1973 · 14/06/2021 20:31

PM me your address and I'll be round, no charge ha ha. I love a good cyst. Try and see your doctor as they can drain it safely for you. Xx

PixieDust28 · 14/06/2021 20:32

I love Dr Pimple Popper and watching her pop/cut cysts! 🙃.

Tempusfudgeit · 14/06/2021 20:36

I had one the size of a grape on my shoulder that got infected and grew to the size of a peach overnight. I was a day away from serious sepsis with a temperature and shivers, had long course of antibiotics but when it popped ... ooh, I could've sold tickets to Sporners' Corner 🤣

HidingFromDD · 14/06/2021 20:37

Drawing ointment on and change daily for a week. Then get someone to deal with it. I had a huge one on my back I couldn’t get to easily. Partner got it after a week (it was, however, all over his hair and the wall. And he’s not a sporner. I was dead jealous 🤣)

SilenceOfTheNaans · 14/06/2021 20:39

Minging 😂😂

StarryStarrySocks · 14/06/2021 20:40

I had a sebaceous cyst on my back removed by the NHS. Go back to the GP and tell them it's started to smell.

userlotsanumbers · 14/06/2021 20:40

sebaceous cyst is a spot. you are teasing the sporners something chronic here. Some of them will be drooling...

SilenceOfTheNaans · 14/06/2021 20:40

Sorry I'm so immature but minging made me laugh!

Sporners corner is amazing. We need photos though 😁

I didn't read it the way it was meant to be read BTW. That's why I'm laughing away to myself like a teenager.

Not especially. It was a bit uncomfortable while they were removing it but not sore. And I'm the biggest wuss in the world! I had to wear a dressing on it for a while afterwards.
Skyla2005 · 14/06/2021 20:54

Mine was like this on my back. It was under the skin but now and then it weeped a clear fluid that smelt horrible. It was there for years then it got infected and filled up with puss. It was so painful I went to the doctor and she rang the minor surgery unit at the hospital and they removed it. It left a big scar because they have to dig it all out so maybe leave it well alone if you can.
