Fire Pits! Why?!

redheadonatractor · 12/06/2021 21:21

So it's still 22 degrees outside here. My baby and childs bedrooms are 28 degrees. Our upstairs is absolutely boiling.

Can I open the windows? No, because our arsehole selfish neighbour has lit a fire. Just a bin with wood in burning merrily outside. It fucking stinks. I had the upstairs windows open for ten minutes half an hour ago and it's stunk the house out even downstairs.

It's warm out. Why, why why do people need fire?! There is no need.

Rant over. Selfish pigs.

Could be worse, our neighbours burnt carpets recently. Black toxic smoke stinking the whole area..... . We have a refuse tip within walking distance and they have 2 cars

Muddydoor · 12/06/2021 21:24

They have bought into the ridiculous hype that the marketing peeps have cone up with. If its done in the US, why not here. Do you have a fan?

nomorehiccups · 12/06/2021 21:28

They are an adult toy. Is your firepit burning neighbour male?

How did you guess! With another male friend.

I thought about getting one for the garden when we got our new decking. Then I had a word with myself about how antisocial that would be as we have close neighbours.

(Plus wood decking so not the brightest idea I've ever had).

ejhhhhh · 12/06/2021 21:31

God I hate these. I'm 100% with you OP.

I'm watching my neighbour (male) sat around his firepit that must be lit at least 3 times a week, because well... err just because. He doesn't actually need to light it, more often than not he isn't even sat outside when it's lit. I think he just likes to make the neighbours suffer, and laugh as everyone rushes around closing windows and fetching in their washing. Sad

You have my sympathies OP, it's shit behaviour.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/06/2021 21:36

Eugh what assholes OP- You hve my sympathies!

Cleverpolly3 · 12/06/2021 21:38

Foul stinking smoking things
Also - given the likelihood that the “users” are a bit merry absolutely lethal

I cannot believe more people haven’t been horrifically burned and maimed by them

BakedTattie · 12/06/2021 21:40

Love a fire pit. Just watching the flames and The smell.

For us it’s only once in a while we have it on, during summer, usually a Saturday evening with a few drinks.

FindingMeno · 12/06/2021 21:43

I love an evening round the fireplace.
There's something so comforting and grounding about it. It's a chance to chill and reflect.
That's my "why?" Smile

Don't you people who burn things in the warm weather give a monkeys about people around you? I can understand it if you're rural and it doesn't affect anyone else but surely you can see to do it in close proximity to others is utterly selfish?! So we all have to boil in our homes so you can watch some pretty flames?!

We have a fire pit. Love it. Need the warmth where we are. Extremely breezy, coastal Scotland.
However we are very considerate of our neighbours and check with them before using it. In fact we invite them round to enjoy it with us! Maybe use it once every 3 or 4 weeks?

If you keep it very, very hot you can absolutely minimise the smoke. We also buy special fuel to ensure this.

I'm sorry it's hot where you are and the neighbours aren't considerate.

If you have a fan, pop some ice water in front of it and it will really cool the air down.

dementedma · 12/06/2021 22:02

Love the smell of woodsmoke.

HumunaHey · 12/06/2021 22:05

I feel your pain. Our neighbour's the same. Every time the weather is slightly warm, out comes the fire pit with the smoke billowing our way. DS has to sleep with windows shut, blinds down and curtains closed and the stench still creeps in. He's only 3 and I actually worry about him in there in hot weather in case the fire gets out of control. Our neighbours burn late into the night talking loudly with kids shrieking and prancing around too. It boils my blood.

We've said something to them before and their solution seems to have been to move the pure pit about a metre away from being right next to our fence where it previously was. It's done FA.

NoProblem123 · 12/06/2021 22:07

In answer to your question - no they don’t give a rat’s arse about anyone but themselves.

redheadonatractor · 12/06/2021 22:09

To be fair, I have just stuck my head out of the window and (very cheerfully and politely even though I was raging and all hot and bothered) asked him to put it out so that I can open the windows. He just said yeah and did so I suppose I shouldn't moan.

But I still will because it's annoying in the first place! Knobs!

Selfish twats, the warm weather seems to bring out idiots

Sillysop92 · 12/06/2021 22:22

I enjoy sitting around it, chatting having a drink and being warm and toasty. It’s too hot to light it at the moment but come September! 🔥🥂

DareIask · 12/06/2021 22:38

I feel exactly like this about barbecues. Stench of smoke plus stench of burnt sausage fat.

Use your ovens like civilised folk

redheadonatractor · 12/06/2021 22:49

I stand corrected. They've 'put it out' and gone inside. However it's still lit a bit with a small flame and it still smoking like hell.

Excellent! Angry

DennisTMenace · 12/06/2021 22:51

I would love a fire pit. Don't really have anywhere to put one though. Next door has one and when used I feel nothing but envy. Don't mind the smell at all.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 12/06/2021 23:00

I've been to friends who have them. Whilst I 'get' the idea of them, what I cannot bear is coming home and having to shower & wash my hair before getting into bed due to the clinging stink of smoke. And my clothes also have to go straight in the wash. awful.

Iloveitall · 12/06/2021 23:07

We love our fire pit. Kids love it too. Roast marshmallows in the evening while sitting around it and chatting with a drink. It’s lovely.
