Help! Lump on vulva can't walk!

poorfanjo · 12/06/2021 12:17

Yes I've name changed. My Fanjo is on fire. I have a £2 coin size lump on the outer lip but on the inside and it's near the top. I've had a look and it's so angry, it has a massive head on it, I can't walk or sit down without nearly crying.

Do I have a hot bath and get a sterile needle from my work kit and pop it? (Nurse) or will I likely pass out from the pain? I've never experienced anything like this before! It's so sore.

Fucking typical isn't it? First date night in over a year and I get a fanny abscess. Hmm

So sorry that you're going through so much. As a DN you will know that people with poor health are more susceptible to illness.
I would suggest that you increase the amount of foods you eat which contain vitamin C and zinc.
You're on a variety of antibiotics so probiotics will also help.

Rememberallball · 13/06/2021 07:30

Hoping you managed some rest overnight (I won’t say sleep as I know, from grim personal experience, that when they’re that painful sleep is really difficult).

I’d definitely get it checked out if it refilled so quickly yesterday. With the late miscarriage and all the antibiotics you’re on I’m not surprised your body has added an abscess into the mix.

Nelia5 · 13/06/2021 08:00

@esterwin not the right advice at all, if it’s a Bartholian cyst then it needs to be looked at by a doctor as it can become infected. The first one I had was lanced by a doctor, it came back twice after that and I was booked in for an op, the third time it popped itself.

@Seeleyboo

Why do I want a video of this popping
Same here 😂
SD1978 · 13/06/2021 08:20

Bartholin cyst as others have said is most likely- antibiotics are usually first line- maybe 111 for a script? They can also burst in their own, but flipping ouch. Maybe a warm bath now and a cold compress later?

Yuppie20 · 13/06/2021 08:24

Hot bath followed by magnesium sulphate. If you can see a head already then its close to popping. But seriously the mag. Sulphate will draw it all out.
I have had plenty of experience with these unfortunately so feel your pain.

Jumpingintosummer · 13/06/2021 08:27

I had one last year, hot bath, much squeezing and it popped horrid green gunk. Refilled purple, repeated process and mix of blood and pus. All quiet until last week when flared up again but nowhere near as bad and popped easily.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/06/2021 08:31

You’re going to have to seek medical help.

MaximumVolume · 13/06/2021 08:54

Hope you got some rest overnight. I’d make getting to OOH a priority. Given you’re on other ABs I imagine they might need to swab to get you into the right stuff for this infection.

Sunshinegirl82 · 13/06/2021 09:39

If the bath doesn't do it I'd just go straight to a&e to be honest, you've got enough going on and need it dealt with.

I'm sorry about your miscarriage and that you're having a such a rough time at the moment 💐

Thirtyrock39 · 13/06/2021 11:38

Sorry you're having such a rubbish time. I have one of these almost constantly - lump but no pain- but many years ago one swelled up and was agony Bartholom cyst (sp?) - I went to gp and was sent straight to hospital (they put me in a wheelchair when I arrived?!?) and had two days in hospital and drained under general anaesthetic because lump got so big/ there were various student doctors comparing it to the sixe of fruit and it was mango sized at one point !! I wouldn't mess about with this at home especially as in an area where I think reinfection quite likely

PawsQueen · 13/06/2021 11:44

I have hidradenitis supprativa and purple is pretty common, usually filled with blood
If it's not a Barth cyst thingy, I would pop it
Honestly I know people say go to a&e etc but they're really really reluctant to drain them
I've had hundreds of not thousands of them, currently have two in my groin
Only ever had one that's been drained and operated on

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 13/06/2021 11:50

Not an HCP but I'd have thought that if you are on antibiotics already then that's good as it might reduce the chance of it turning nasty.
I'd pop it again and then see if I needed A&E, if it was me. You know what to do to keep it clean so you'd be better than most at looking after it. I do think I'd want to see a doctor on Monday though.
I'm really sorry for loss Flowers

Kona84 · 13/06/2021 12:15

Probably an ingrown- hot bath, needle then ice afterwards

partyatthepalace · 13/06/2021 12:18

Oh I’ve had what sounds like this a few times, with and without a head - it’s never been a B cyst just a giant spot. Sometimes they refilled once or twice and I repopped but they buggered off after that. Sterile needle if there is no obvious head.

If it’s deeper under the skin, or has hot/red skin around this that is when you need the doc.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 13/06/2021 12:26

Omg I dont think Ive ever felt so much sympathy for a stranger on the internet. Nor been so invested in someone elses labia Confused

Sorry youve been having such a rubbish time. Really hope you feel better about everything soon. FlowersCake

EBearhug · 13/06/2021 12:29

When I had an abscess on my vulva, as well as kill-or-cure antibiotics (I really shouldn't read the info leaflet...) I was advised to have salt baths twice a day. I was also told not to go swimming, but when I said I had a beach trip planned, sea swimming was definitely allowed, as it's basically a giant salt bath. I still have salt baths quite often, as I found my skin was improved by it. You can get expensive bags of Himalayan salts or Epsom salts, but cheapo table salt worked just as well. Though I do treat myself to the expensive ones on occasion.

poorfanjo · 13/06/2021 12:42

Went to ooh and had it drained. I think I missed the big head on it so it just refilled. Feel 10000 times better! I've also got a dressing so that's nice

OP posts:
newnortherner111 · 13/06/2021 12:45

Good to know you got it sorted.

SinkGirl · 13/06/2021 12:52

So glad it’s sorted OP - I had one quite recently but never developed a head and just went down.

It can’t be a Bartholin’s cyst - it’s in completely the wrong place, there are no glands there! For me I think it was an ingrown hair, getting another one thanks to sodding sanitary towels.

You’ve been through absolute hell and with such an emotionally demanding job you must be completely wiped out. Things like this happen to me much more often when I’m really struggling. Any chance you can take some time off?

Hugs to you Flowers

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 13/06/2021 13:19

Oh thats good to hear.

Binglebong · 13/06/2021 14:03

Am there only one wondering how you put on dressing there?!

Glad you're doing better OP.

Whyhello · 13/06/2021 14:13

I’ve had one before and I did actually pop it which was excruciating but once it was popped, it stopped hurting. I don’t advise doing that of course, I think warm compresses are advised.

HermioneWeasley · 13/06/2021 14:17

Glad you’re feeling better

Tistheseason17 · 13/06/2021 14:51

OP - sounds like it was horrific. I have a delightful Bartholin's gland/cyst and even that does not perform in this way. Glad it has been successfully drained.
