December 2019 I'd have said open a window, close the door and go to bed.

June 2021 I say burn the fucking house down.

Hope that helps.

TaraR2020 · 10/06/2021 23:31

If you can isolate him in one room tonight with the lights off, leave a window open if safe, then call bat rescue people tomorrow

ComtesseDeSpair · 10/06/2021 23:31

Close internal doors to contain it, open windows to try and give it a way out. They’re lovey, harmless creatures. They usually find their way out within a few hours, we used to get them indoors all the time as they roosted in the eaves and could creep through gaps in the roof space. If it hasn’t made its way out by tomorrow, call your local bar group for advice: www.bats.org.uk/support-bats/bat-groups
They sometimes come out with nets to capture and release them.

Bloomingpeony · 10/06/2021 23:31

Open the windows, close the door and wait. This happened to us last year, it’s more common when they have young who are still learning to echolocate. Hopefully it will find its way out quickly.

PawsQueen · 10/06/2021 23:32

TOMORROW?! No no no
I can't get past it to go to bed, it's in the hallway
Currently stood with the patio doors open in the garden wearing a nightie
Do I switch lights off?

ComtesseDeSpair · 10/06/2021 23:32

Bats in the UK don’t carry disease - Covid, rabies or otherwise.

IslandLulu · 10/06/2021 23:32

Turn off all the lights inside the house and open the windows. Get lights shining outside to attract him out.

Be gentle with him! He doesn't want to hurt you and may be more frightened than you.

Bloomingpeony · 10/06/2021 23:32

Switch the lights off to stop other flying things coming in.

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 10/06/2021 23:33

@Mrsmophead

I'd say burn the house down to be honest.
What on earth? They’re adorable. Anyway OP, close the room off from the rest of the house and then open any windows and outside doors as wide as possible and it should find it’s way out eventually. Don’t the room but do stand in a corner so the bat doesn’t have to locate around you. It may take a while to orientate itself though. We get this happen on a surprisingly regular basis.
PawsQueen · 10/06/2021 23:34

Right the lights are on in the hallway where it is but I can't switch them off
Doors/windows open, and street lights outside
I mean I'm guessing it's a bat. I opened the bathroom door, something flapped past my hair and I shrieked and ran

Photo? Smile

I love bats

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 10/06/2021 23:35

Sorry I meant don’t leave the room - because you want to know if it definitely got out

Cocolapew · 10/06/2021 23:37

I would just live in the garden now.

New2ctc · 10/06/2021 23:37

Was your bathroom window open? How did it get in?

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 10/06/2021 23:38

Goes to make sure bathroom window is closed...

PawsQueen · 10/06/2021 23:40

I don't have any windows in the bathroom! The only thing I can think is it came in past me earlier but then the bathroom door is always shut Confused
The cat is involved now and stood in the garden with me looking very HmmHmmHmm

SingingSands · 10/06/2021 23:40

PP beat me to it... but Catch him Derry! Grin

Fluffyandsilly · 10/06/2021 23:45

Definitely catch him Derry!
Although don’t, that would scare the poor little thing.
Turn the lights off and shut your bedroom door and all other doors apart from the one between the hall and bathroom. Leave the bathroom window open so the bat can escape. Hope it’s gone in the morning. If not, you can call bat rescue.

I would really like a bat in my house. Lovely little things!

thatonesmine · 10/06/2021 23:45

There was one in my bedroom once when we were staying in a holiday cottage, it obligingly flew out in to the stairwell and we decided to leave it be overnight. During the night it somehow managed to get back into the bedroom and I found it hanging from the curtain rail in the morning, fast asleep. It was the first and only time I've been able to see one close up and they are SO cute. Little pink feet. We took it outside, still very sleepy, and after a couple of minutes it came to and flew off.

Cavagirl · 10/06/2021 23:50

Is it still flying or has it found somewhere to rest?

Hsurbbrb · 10/06/2021 23:51

We need photos!

PawsQueen · 10/06/2021 23:52

Alternating flying and resting. The cat has taken advantage and fucked off across the road (he never goes out at this time
I'm still in the garden. I live here now
