Gin and tonic ? Gin and orange juice ? What are your preferences ?

I usually go for simple Schweppes tonic water as a mixer but good quality orange juice or a mix of orange and pineapple juice goes very well with a slug of gin, especially after a warm day. What does everyone else like with gin, apart from more gin ?

BTW, Tanqueray is my go-to these days, particularly as it's £20 a litre in Sainsbury's just now. But, this is about the gin accompaniments 🙂.

Portobello Gin, pink Fevertree tonic, lots of ice, slice of lime.

Has anyone tried the Lidl fake Fevertree? It's an AFFRONT to tonic. Very disappointing as SO much cheaper.

Side note - I HATE flavoured tonics. Currently drinking G&T made with a rhubarb tonic a friend gave me . Sweet and disgusting.

Gin with pink lemonade is my go to. Cannot stand tonic.

Dinosharks · 11/06/2021 19:21

Orange every time 😃

WildRosie · 11/06/2021 21:09

@doublenotdobble

I didn't mean gin and mango juice OP, gin and tonic with smashed up mango and a twist of ground black pepper like this www.sprinklesandsprouts.com/mango-and-black-pepper-gin-tonic/
My mistake. Too many variables with this gin business.

Gin & Lemonade.

Every time.

And Bombay Sapphire, Bombay Dry is... horribly drunk!

MrsJBaptiste · 11/06/2021 21:19

I remember the days when the choice of gin in the UK was very limited; Beefeater and Gordon's was about it. At least Beefeater is still a very adequate 40% spirit but Gordon's has been 37.5% for years. You have to go to Duty Free, or whatever it's called now, to get the grown-up boozy version. Even Morrison's Best gin is 43% and not a bad alternative to Tanqueray.

@BelterDelta

I used to drink gin with bitter lemon.
Mmm my fave or the fever tree Sicilian lemonade
Janaih · 11/06/2021 21:37

I have a cupboard full of fancy gins but always with Schweppes premium tonic.

LBOCS2 · 11/06/2021 21:42

Gin with either Fevertree or merchants heart tonic (possibly with a splash of elderflower liqueur and a wedge of lime too). Or gin with lemon san pellogrino. Like a gin and bitter lemon.

longtompot · 11/06/2021 21:55

I tend to just have ice, lime, gin (currently Tanqueray) and top up a copa glass with tonic water.
I also love it with a spring of fresh rosemary and sometimes a slice or orange instead of lime.
I'm a plain g&t drinker really. Simple pleasures.

Try Waitrose essential if you want something cheaper than fever tree that's nice and no sweeteners.

YY to Menorca gin with cloudy lemonade, they call it a pomada and it's 50/50 lemonade and gin. No wonder @Ginmakesitallok was rat arsed on the boat.

Schweppes Bitter Lemon, or (not from concentrate!) Apple juice!

Blueberrycreampie · 11/06/2021 22:50

A Gin Fizz, gin (obviously) fresh lime juice and soda water with lots of ice! It's really refreshing and not much sugar. 👍

ginandbearit · 11/06/2021 23:05

Most Gins with soft still mineral water and ice ..lots of it maybe a twist of lemon or cucumber ..I find the tonic mixtures quite harsh sometimes and the right mineral.water lets the botanicals in the gin trickle through ...like I care after the third one ...

StevieNix · 11/06/2021 23:12

Gin with schweppes ginger ale is my ultimate summer drink- and I don’t even usually like ginger ale or the ginger flavour in general!

CorianderBee · 12/06/2021 11:02

Apple juice or butter lemon

PaperMonster · 12/06/2021 11:46

I use fizzy water with gin as I’m Diabetic- means I can really taste the gin.

amusedbush · 12/06/2021 12:40

I usually drink Hendrick’s with elderflower Fever Tree and a slice of lemon. It’s not what they recommend but it’s lovely.

I have Tanqueray seville orange which is nice with clementine tonic and a slice of orange.

DH recently bought me Whitley Neill watermelon and kiwi gin, and we cobbled together makeshift cocktails for Eurovision Grin M&S still raspberry lemonade, a splash of lime juice and appletiser works well!

Tlollj · 12/06/2021 12:42

Gin, lime and soda. Once you start though it is very moorish.

Liverbird77 · 12/06/2021 12:44

I love a Gibson...gin Martini with TWO silverskin onions.
Failing that I like a two olive Martini.
I don't like a lemon twist.

RuddyHellItsSoftCell · 13/06/2021 22:42

I live in York and we have a lovely York Gin called Outlaw that is about 57% and so dry and crisp it’s amazing
