Gin and tonic ? Gin and orange juice ? What are your preferences ?

I usually go for simple Schweppes tonic water as a mixer but good quality orange juice or a mix of orange and pineapple juice goes very well with a slug of gin, especially after a warm day. What does everyone else like with gin, apart from more gin ?

BTW, Tanqueray is my go-to these days, particularly as it's £20 a litre in Sainsbury's just now. But, this is about the gin accompaniments 🙂.

Lemonade is my go to

doublenotdobble · 10/06/2021 20:37

Fever tree is good as is the Aldi fake fever tree tonic

Justmuddlingalong · 10/06/2021 20:37

Ordinary gin with tonic, ice and a slice of lime. Flavoured gin with lemonade, ice and berries of some sort.

Hun and orange juice is disgusting. Why anyone would willingly drink it is beyond me. It reminds me of when we had no mixers at uni and used to drink vodka and squash!

doublenotdobble · 10/06/2021 20:37

Also mango and black pepper is a very good accompanying flavour for gin and tonic

HelloCanYouHearMe · 10/06/2021 20:41

For non- flavoured gin, i go with Elderflower tonic

Flavoured gins get a non-flavoured tonic

I cant have too many flavours swirling around in the glass!!

WildRosie · 10/06/2021 20:50

I always have a wedge of lime, whether tonic or juice. I've not tried mango juice or peppercorns. I'd like to give red or pink grapefruit juice a try with gin but my medicines say I can't. Not yet anyways.

I once read a recipe for gin and tonic in a drinks dictionary. It called for soda water rather than tonic water, which I thought was odd.

There must be loads of gin-based cocktails out there. Is Blue Lagoon one, or does it use vodka ?

Gin, Tonic lots of ice and a splash of Angostura bitter. Divine.

ElaborateSalad · 10/06/2021 20:58

Tanqueray is £20 a litre at the mo?! I'm there in the morning!

Yes, I bought some the other day. Jolly glad too as a few shops have had the 75cl bottle at sixteen quid for ages, and I was too late!

Must emphasise, this is the regular export strength 43% stuff, not any premium-plus gin.

Gin, fever tree and either slices of orange or cucumber.

Wish I was still drinking now !

OublietteBravo · 10/06/2021 21:09

Gin + tonic + blue curaçao works pretty well. Even if the colour is a bit garish.

Whatthefucculent · 10/06/2021 21:10

I'm currently having a Bombay Sapphire blackberry & raspberry gin with a squeeze of lime & sparking water. It's perfect, not to sweet.

HugeAckmansWife · 10/06/2021 21:11

Lime, red or pink grapefruit, a slice of passionfruit, loads of ice obvs. My favourite gin at the mo is an Aldi one.. Persian lime and orange. £14.99.

otterbaby · 10/06/2021 21:13

Bombay sapphire with fever tree aromatic tonic water...and a fat cucumber slice that soaks it all up so I can munch a boozy bit of cucumber when it's finished 😋

ginoclocksomewhere · 10/06/2021 21:16

Bombay Bramble with lemonade

Boë peach & hibiscus with lemonade

Wish I liked tonic, but I really just don't 😂

BelterDelta · 10/06/2021 21:19

I used to drink gin with bitter lemon.

Glenthebattleostrich · 10/06/2021 21:19

depends on the gin!

Currently enjoying a local gin (Watertons, its excellent) with fentimans tonic, lots of ice and a wedge of lime. Same brand do a rose and raspberry which is amazing in summer with rose lemonade.

Also love holy island gin with fever tree elderflower and a few raspberries.

rainbowruthie · 10/06/2021 21:19

Gin and Bitter Lemon is very nice

Pinkywoo · 10/06/2021 21:21

Bombay and bitter lemon with lots of ice for me!

AdaColeman · 10/06/2021 21:23

Gin & tonic most of the time, though I also like a pink gin.

Occasionally I go wild and add things like bruised basil leaves, or borage flowers or elderflower liqueur.

At present, I've got some rhubarb cordial I think might make a nice summery drink with gin.
Gin Gin Gin Gin

toomuchfaster · 10/06/2021 21:28

I prefer mine with lemonade if I have a bottle open, or tonic in a little can if not. I had some peach cordial which was really nice in it and have some elderflower cordial to try at the weekend.

NoodieRoodie · 10/06/2021 21:28

Too many pp have beaten me to it, I'm now feeling nostalgic for gin and bitter lemon. When I was a teen in the working men's club (41 now) that's what all the old ladies drunk and so did we because it was only about 80p!

Bearsbearsbears40 · 10/06/2021 21:28

Another vote for gin and bitter lemon here (had to buy bitter lemon in a Malawian shop as no tonic available!)

toomuchfaster · 10/06/2021 21:30

Forgot to say, I just drink dry London gin. Not a big fan of flavoured ones, but SIL did have a fabulous Parma violet one we partook of at the weekend!
