Gross washing machine etiquette.. would you wash these?!

DP often has skid marks. Do you wash these?! I hate the thought of them in my washing machine and I have actually thrown some away at times. Am I on my own here?!

Is he unable to wipe his arse properly?

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 10/06/2021 11:55

That’s a bit mad. Washing machines are for washing dirty things in.

a) He can wash his own underpants b) he needs to wipe his bum properly
Topseyt · 10/06/2021 11:57

I'd actually make him rinse them out properly first. Otherwise throw his pants out.

Heltid · 10/06/2021 11:57

It’s not on every pair! Just now and then. Just wondered if that is suitable for washing machine. It feels gross to me

It's a washing machine. Its only job is to get stuff clean.

Wasteful to throw clothes in the bin just for a bit of poo that'll wash out.

What do you do if you leak on your period?

Verbena87 · 10/06/2021 11:58

I washed shat-in nappies in mine. Rinsed first, but still worse than a skid mark

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 10/06/2021 11:59

Other than the grossness of physically putting them in the washing machine ie having to touch them I don’t see an issue. A washing machine is designed to clean things.

Heltid · 10/06/2021 12:00

I worry that it will remain in the machine, the bacteria, that will then go on other clothes! I’m a bit of a worried about cleanliness

Fifthtimelucky · 10/06/2021 12:00

I would put them in the washing machine without a thought.

LadyCluck · 10/06/2021 12:02

Get some of that dettol laundry cleanser and sling that in with his pants.

Of course they are, but stuff that has actually got shit on it needs a good rinse out first.

I wouldn't want someone else's shit in with the rest of the wash. I know you can't avoid tiny faecal particles (everyone farts) but full on skiddoes need rinsed off first. OP's DH should be made to do that, as he seems unable to wipe his arse effectively. If he has to deal with the consequences then just maybe he will learn. Finally.

hazandduck · 10/06/2021 12:02

Was going to say OP’s obviously not had a baby with a poonami-all-up-the-back situation 🤣 I don’t generally inspect my DH’s underwear before I chuck it in the wash. But to throw away perfectly fine clothes that just need a wash is so wasteful 😩

There are microscopic poo particles on everything anyway

I don’t get this why wouldn’t they be? I’d put my child’s poo stained clothes in there or if someone has been sick I’ll put the clothes / bedding in the washing machine
QuestionableMouse · 10/06/2021 12:03

There's honestly nothing to worry about. Washing them on a 60 with detergent will kill any germs.

If that's the case you need a new washing machine. Washing machine cleans clothes.

Worry more about DP sorting himself out.

If I leak during a period I soak it in cold water first, often with a dash of biological washing powder. Then in the washing machine with the rest of the laundry.
YelloYelloYello · 10/06/2021 12:05

If he’s not ill and it’s just a gross lazy thing then I wouldn’t personally wash them but I would be ok with them going in the washing machine (with some dettol) when he washed them himself.

I would be more worried about the fact I had married someone who was walking around all day with shit on their arse and in their pants than the washing machine.

DirectionsForUse · 10/06/2021 12:06

I wouldn't, if he's a functioning adult, he can do them himself but they'll still be in your machine.

I do wash things that have poo on them, children's pants, soiled bedding after an invalid's accident etc. That's what detergent's for. Periodically I clean the machine by running it empty on a hot wash with bleach or vinegar.

otterbaby · 10/06/2021 12:06

That's disgusting. But only because he's not wiping his arse.

In terms of cleanliness, I wash reusable baby wipes in our washer and it's not a big deal.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 10/06/2021 12:07

I'd be a lot more worried that your (hopefully) adult partner can't manage something that most primary school children can do, i.e. wipe his arse properly.

TwoLeftElbows · 10/06/2021 12:08

well we used cloth nappies so you'd frown on my "washing machine etiquette" too. We also cope with menstrual blood stains and enormous mud slicks that kids bring home from rugby matches and outward bound hol camps. Sometimes it takes a few buckets of cold water before I let those clothes in the machine mind.

Feel free to tell him to wash his own, and/or use napisan if you're worried, but your washing machine will cope fine. Soap and hot water are very effective against germs. I wouldn't wash them at 30 though.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 10/06/2021 12:10

the clue is in the name: WASHING machine.
poo, wee, sick etc - where else would you wash them?
bonkers question

Inthesameboatatmo · 10/06/2021 12:10

Re educate him on how to wipe his arse seriously that's not envy.
And no I wouldn't was them in my machine either .
Make him pay at laundrette to wash them he might realise then its disgusting.
