Gross washing machine etiquette.. would you wash these?!

DP often has skid marks. Do you wash these?! I hate the thought of them in my washing machine and I have actually thrown some away at times. Am I on my own here?!

When my daughter's clothes are poo-ey I wash them at 60 with things like cleaning cloths, bathroom floor mats, towels etc. If it was my husband's pants I'd be mentioning it to him and asking him to wipe properly. Could you look into getting a bidet? You can get ones that fit on the toilet (toto washlet is a well known brand).

notalwaysalondoner · 10/06/2021 12:12

I'd have a go at him about wiping properly, my DH never has them (and he isn't the most cleanliness focused person by a long way...). But a washing machine is for washing things - you would be shocked by reusable nappies! The recommendation for those is to do a quick rinse cycle then wash them at 60C, and that's for properly pooey nappies, not just some faint marks on pants!

notalwaysalondoner · 10/06/2021 12:13

Also agree with looking into getting wet toilet tissues/wet wipes or a spray attachment to the toilet (we are getting one for reusable nappies but in a lot of countries they are normal and certainly make it easier to wipe if it's... ahem... sticky....)

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 10/06/2021 12:13

install a bidet?

SirenSays · 10/06/2021 12:13

Maybe keep some wet wipes by the loo.. Or have a look at installing a bidet.

I worked in a nursery where the cook insisted everything was hand-washed before going in the machine. Not just rinsed, a full scrub with detergent in the tiny bathroom sink. Seemed like a total waste of time to me.

nimbuscloud · 10/06/2021 12:14

Loving the stories of shitty arses. Not.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/06/2021 12:14

No, dirt from your clothes shouldn't be building up in your washing machine, nor germs from them. If you're getting poo on other clothes in with his pants your washing machine is broken.

You're fully within your rights to not want to handle your husband's poo. If his pants are Pooey, leave them for him to wash

Good grief. Just get a grip and put them in the wash. Absolute non issue.

JamieLeeBee · 10/06/2021 12:19

Surely you regularly put your washing machine on a cleaning cycle anyway, so if you're that concerned about a few skid marks then do that after.

Genuinely can't take this seriously. If I did that with every vest my toddler accidently leaked poo onto, I'd be skint and very wasteful 🙄

ISpeakJive · 10/06/2021 12:19

My Young children sometimes don’t wile their bottoms properly. I just soak them in some washing powder first and then stick them in the machine.

Changechangychange · 10/06/2021 12:20

I’d keep them separate and boil wash them by themselves, to make sure I’d sterilised them. But I would put them in the washing machine, yes. DS was in cloth nappies, so a bit of poo doesn’t bother me per se.

I would seriously wonder why my DH couldn’t wipe his own bum though - haemorrhoids? Would moist wipes work better? I am assuming he isn’t just a dirty bastard and there is a genuine reason for this.

Beamur · 10/06/2021 12:21

Wet wipes
Hot wash
Problem solved

cupoftea2021 · 10/06/2021 12:22

@Topseyt

Is he unable to wipe his arse properly?
😂

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 10/06/2021 12:23

This thread is bonkers.

This is what washing machines are for. Standard maintenence of washing machines is putting washing machine cleaner in it and running it on empty.

The MN obsession with 'poo particles' in washing machines is weird.

MaBroon21 · 10/06/2021 12:24

Op, unless your husband has a health problem there is absolutely no need at all for him to be unable to clean his bottom properly.

I just don’t know at all how women put up with this. It’s filthy.

I couldnt be with someone who did this.

To be fair, a lot of MNers are unable to use a toilet properly. Lots of "hoverers" who piss over the seat. It wasn't until I joined MN that I realised how the fuck women's toilets have urine on the seats.
idontlikealdi · 10/06/2021 12:25

Urgh if he can't clean his own arse he should do his own washing. Worse imo is his skiddy pants in the laundry basket.

It a basic basic lesson in personal hygeine.

ChristmasFluff · 10/06/2021 12:26

I used to put son's reusable nappies in the washing machine - after soaking them in a bucket of napisan. The bucket lived on for a while as son got the hang of wiping.

Perhaps you need a bucket of napisan next to the laundry basket for him to put his manky pants in.

21Flora · 10/06/2021 12:27

That is unbelievably wasteful! Just wash them, if you are really concerned put some disinfectant in the wash. We put our nappies in the wash, they are sparkling clean and white every time.

Cushionsnotpillows · 10/06/2021 12:29

@nimbuscloud well maybe when you read the OP, you could just click away from the thread rather than making a shitty comment to the Op? Hmm

peachescariad · 10/06/2021 12:30

I'd be more concerned with your DP's poor standard of personal hygiene rather than your washing machine

HelpMeh · 10/06/2021 12:32

Does he need to assess his diet or something?

I can't imagine having to have a skid mark conversation with a grown man. I think my husband would bin them himself rather than have me stumble across them in the laundry basket Envy

I'd probably want them washed hotter than 40, but yes, washing machines can cope with poo, puke, pee and blood provided you remove any solids first Envy

pinkypink24 · 10/06/2021 12:36

I'm a little obsessive about the washing pants thing Hmm

I do a knicker wash only & wash all my knickers & DP's boxers together on a 60 wash with the dettol laundry cleanser liquid in the fabric conditioner drawer. On the knicker wash I was knickers/boxers only - no other items. I like to change my knickers 2/3 times a day so the pile soon mounts up ... oh and we only buy dark undies so all can be done on one wash.

Waiting for the ConfusedConfusedConfused regarding my OTT washing pants routine lol.
