This is for the heat complainers only

Bugger off and create your own thread about how much you love the heat if you don’t like me complaining

I’m too hot
I’m sweaty
I feel nauseous because of the heat
I’m all sticky
And short tempered

Looking forward to milder weather

Fans fans fans. I'm not a fan of heat.

ssd · 10/06/2021 09:10

Agree

Sparklingbrook · 10/06/2021 09:10

I need to get all the fans out of the loft. But going up there will make me too hot and sweaty.

Toilenstripes · 10/06/2021 09:11

I love the heat but do keep a fan running and windows open.

MadisonAvenue · 10/06/2021 09:13

We’ve got an anti-heat hideout here Soubriquet, come and join us

I can't cope with it either. I have a condition called dysautonomia which affects temperature regulation, sweating and blood pressure . Anything over 68 degrees and I'm dripping with sweat to the point where I look as if I've just stepped out the shower. My blood pressure goes up and I feel sick and weak. Anything below about 7 degrees and I feel sick, shivery and ill. Autumn and spring are my only comfortable times of year. Summer is terrible. I hate it and feel sad I can't enjoy it.

Tittyfilarious · 10/06/2021 09:17

I hate the heat it makes me feel sick, tired and gives me headaches I'm a miserable sod I love autumn and winter

FuckyouCovid21 · 10/06/2021 09:19

I don't mind the dry heat but it's when it's muggy, it's so uncomfortable and it's already muggy here. I hate it, the dogs hate it - trying to get a nice cool time to take the dogs out is a struggle as it was muggy all bloody night last night. Supposed to be a lot cooler tomorrow so hopefully it will be more comfortable

Minstrelsgetinmybelly · 10/06/2021 09:24

Anything over 21/22c is too hot for me!

Sanblasamor · 10/06/2021 09:27

I hear you. Fan on me constantly and having to take an ice pack wrapped in pillow case to bed with me to keep cool.
I hate it.

25yearsnhsworker · 10/06/2021 09:28

I am struggling and it doesn't seem to be letting up.
Can anyone recommend a good fan please?
I am off to JL today to buy this hand held fan

We follow Aussie DH’s tips for the few hot days we get & it cools the house down a treat.

Keep blinds/curtains shut all day. If you have blackout blinds, get the ones with the reflective back, not the black back.

Only open windows after 6pm and then open all plus any doors for a through draft. Keep open all night & close before 10am.

Open loft hatch after 6pm.

Don’t go outside between 11-3, keep to the shade where possible.

Drape damp cloths over fans.

Our house only goes up to about 21 degrees with us using these tips.

Yes, I’m sure, but god what a miserable way to spend your days.

Sparklingbrook · 10/06/2021 09:37

I couldn’t be doing with not having the doors and windows open. I keep the curtains/blinds closed upstairs if it’s very warm.
Usually having a fan going does the trick.

I would actually prefer to fry in my house than keep windows, doors, curtains and blinds closed all day!
LuckyWookie · 10/06/2021 09:44

I’ve had a very unpleasant few days. My dogs and DC have refused to go to sleep because it’s too hot and are also waking up stupidly early. Houses and offices in the UK are not equipped for hot weather! In other countries where the weather is consistently hot they have air conditioning and swimming pools etc so they cope much better even though it’s hotter. Also I’m sick of dousing myself in sticky sunscreen just to step outdoors and needing a shower to get it off as soon as I come home!

LindaEllen · 10/06/2021 09:45

I seem to spend all of winter looking forward to summer .. then it finally arrives, and it's just TOO hot!

MaverickDanger · 10/06/2021 09:48

@Bluntness100 we sit outside in the shade working/with DS so not quite sure what you think is miserable.

midsomermurderess · 10/06/2021 14:39

Is that in the UK, maverick?

MareofBeasttown · 10/06/2021 14:44

So agree that UK houses, esp in London, are not equipped to cope. Forget air conditioning, they don't even have ventilation.

Absy · 10/06/2021 14:50

I normally looooove hot weather, but I’m currently 7 weeks pregnant, constantly tired and nauseous and the heat is making it worse. At least nobody thinks I’m too weird for trying out an all ice-cream diet.

For Maverick’s tips - if all the windows / blinds closed is too much, at least having them down for the windows when sun is streaming in does help. I did it by mistake the other day (laziness) and it definitely helped. Our flat is south facing and the windows don’t open very wide (but there are lots of them) so I’m basically living in a sunhouse.

H1978 · 10/06/2021 14:59

I can cope in the day with the doors and windows open but it’s a pain at night. I always need a duvet to get to sleep so it’s a very restless night for me.

Worriesome · 10/06/2021 14:59

Move to Scotland 🤣 it’s rarely uncomfortably hot here and the rare afternoon it is it’s bound to cool off by 5/6pm x

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 10/06/2021 15:08

I do Maverick's system and it works really well. Admittedly I don't have any curtains, just a mix of roller blinds and chunky white Venetian blinds so it doesn't feel too dark/oppressive inside.

I put the blinds up on one side of the house once the sun has moved round to the other side.

safariboot · 10/06/2021 15:14

I'm managing here in Birmingham. For me up to 25 C is OK, 25-30 is unpleasant, and above 30 is awful. Hot weather is nice when I'm on holiday and I can just laze around and spend half my time in the pool. It's not nice to work in.

And yes to what Maverick said. Keep the sun and the heat out in the day, open the windows at night to cool the house down. Open windows in the day when it's hot outside just won't help.
