Hi all........

@Gally123 No, I wasn't disputing it, just saying they don't hold you to it, not in my experience anyway. Having said that, I never did sign a contract with them, they just got me started. I cant believe a company would ask for 90 hours audio a week though, can you? The average working week is only 37 hours and 90 hours of audio would equate to at least 180 hours typing, it must mean 9 hours. As said, with Tpro, they just let me an hour a week if I want and no questions asked.

Hi @Sue7844 I find being self-employed great. You will see through the chat on hear that sometimes it is difficult to make good money on Dict8 when it's a bad day of dictation, most people work for a couple of companies and the 'go to' one at the moment is Tpro as they have loads of work and you can guarantee a decent pay. They are recruiting now so maybe give them a go? Have you got your self-assessment tax code, it seems to be one think Dict8 don't ask for now but you will need it for your tax.

@Chrissols - I think Tpro must have changed several aspects of their employment in the time when you joined pre-first lockdown and I joined post first lockdown in that they changed not only the pay but conditions - I had to sign a digital contract which states 150 letters minimum per week (although it is possible to do 150 short letters to make the requirement if time is short!). Also, as mentioned, since I joined they seem to have changed that now to six hours per day. Many companies I have looked at now specify they require typists to be full time. Conditions seem to be changing all the time as more people are wanting to work from home and so employers can pick and choose. At the moment I am not finding 150 letters minimum with Tpro a problem.

Also, when I want time off (holiday or as now watching the olympics and only working a little bit) I just email in about a month before to give notice, for which they ask.

I haven’t got my self assessment tax code yet, do I just go on the Gov website to get that? I did apply to Tpro but I haven’t heard anything at all. Maybe I need to try it again as the website wasn’t great due to the storms.

Chrissols · 30/07/2021 10:13

@Sue7844 yes just go on the Gov website, they are very quick to issue you with a number. Yes, I would probably just mail Tpro again to be on the safe side as they are crying out for typists at the moment.

Great. Thanks for the info

LMW1990 · 30/07/2021 11:45

I too have applied for T-pro. How long do they usually take to respond?

Chrissols · 30/07/2021 12:08

@LMW1990 When I applied it was within a day or two, but as @Gally123 states, things may have changed a bit since then, albeit I have only been with them a short time myself. I shouldn't think it will be long though as they are in need of transcribers.

LMW1990 · 30/07/2021 12:10

@Chrissols thank you! I'll give it a few more days and drop them an email

Meha5a · 30/07/2021 14:20

@Chrissols could you imaging what the comeback would be for that one ("hear") via the proofreaders 🤣🤣🤣😱🤣🤣🤣

Meha5a · 30/07/2021 14:22

@LMW1990 I applied a few weeks ago but haven't been contacted yet.

Gally123 · 30/07/2021 15:25

@Meha5a @LMW1990 - I sent a follow up email after a couple of weeks just to check my application had been received. At that time DICT8 was going through a bad patch even before lockdown with a downturn in amount of work (not to mention quality) and I was concerned about earning potential. I must admit I did chase to a certain extent the whole process esp as I was put on hold with the first lockdown, and it was not helped by the fact that the woman who does the recruitment always seemed to be on holiday! I was sent the information and was awaiting my typing test when she returned from her first holiday when I was put on hold for lockdown. Then when I heard other people who had also been put on hold had their applications resumed I emailed again only to find the woman was on holiday again. I did my test and was awaiting the zoom chat interview when that got cancelled due to staff shortage, however then I was due to go on holiday for a few days and they managed to slot me in before I went so the behind the scenes admin could be completed for when I returned from holiday, but I made sure I was not overlooked. I know it is a fine line between being a pest, but I wanted them to know I was serious about wanting the work.

Meha5a · 30/07/2021 16:01

@Gally123 thanks for that, I will chase them up next week.

Chrissols · 03/08/2021 08:19

Dict8 very very quiet since Friday, hope it's short-lived

OP posts:
danblack87 · 04/08/2021 15:32

@Gally123: minimum 90 hours a week!!?? That's ridiculous (slave labour) - most people only work 40 hours a week at best .... hahaha - on these wages with this dictation ... definitely NOT. I agree you definitely need to read the small print and stipulations.

@meha5a: I try to maintain certain discipline but I tend to vary mine as to what is/isn't available. I don't mind working weekends to catch up when I have been tending to the garden/housework/shopping etc; though I to tend to do my shopping on-line for delivery!!

danblack87 · 04/08/2021 15:35

To All: Do you think it would be appropriate to type in the Notes Box "Nil intelligible to type on this task"!!!! Wink ... bet it wouldn't go down very well LOL

Gally123 · 04/08/2021 15:43

@danblack87 - that was 90 hours of audio a week (not 90 hours typing).

deewu · 05/08/2021 16:37

@danblack87 I have just more or less just done that apart from the last sentence which I could hear!

Chrissols · 05/08/2021 17:08

@Gally123 90 hours of audio would equate to at least 180 hours of typing.....they must have made a mistake there......that is nearly five times the average working week!

OP posts:
Chrissols · 05/08/2021 17:09

@Gally123 they sure must have meant 9 hours which would be about 18 hours typing which sounds about right for an average part time job

OP posts:
Gally123 · 05/08/2021 17:12

@Chrissols - I have not worked it out, however I did take it that they only wanted very fast typists who were prepared to work for them full time (and not with any other companies).

Chrissols · 05/08/2021 19:07

@Gally123 they would have to be superhuman typists to do that as there aren't that many hours in a week, let alone a day 🤣

OP posts:
Gally123 · 05/08/2021 20:04

@Chrissols I wish I could remember who it was so I could check.
