Favourite UK seaside town?

Looking for somewhere to go for a nice UK seaside break with my partner and our 7 month old baby.

Ideally would like a nice beach to walk along and for our 7 month old to play on.
A few shops, cafes, fish and chips and ice cream nearby etc. Not really bothered about nightlife and clubs etc.

What’s your suggestions? Thanks everyone!! Grin

Exmouth., Devon.
Sandy RNLI beach. Lots of car parking and enough shops and cafes nearby that you can get lunch and provisions.
Perranporth, Cornwall, is also nice.

Saltburn or Whitby. Both great but probably Saltburn is better for small children.

Whitby.

I have a soft spot for Withernsea. No one really rates it, it is on its uppers. However when the sun comes out the whole world heads to Scarborough, Whitby and Filey and sit in a traffic jam. For us just M62 and keep going. Amazing beach, crappy little seaside town with arcade entertainments. We discovered it one feb half term as we found somewhere cheap to stay 4 miles inland. It is our special place.

Filey brings back childhood memories- had a Great Aunt that lived there 💗
Lyme Regis - stayed as a teenager as a friend lived there lovely town 😊

Both lovely choices

Syphonit · 06/06/2021 21:38

@willstarttomorrow I have been googling Withernsea today. I'd never heard of it before but wanted somewhere fairly quiet.
You've described it exactly how I thought it might be. Perfect, I'm going to give it a go.

Lots of good suggestions here, but a couple of bum notes…

Weymouth - went for a day last year whilst in Somerset and the whole town was full of aggressive drunks (mid afternoon).

Lowestoft - god no. Drove through it about 10 years ago and the local youths seemed to be having a spitting competition. I’d say it was a step up from Grimsby, but only a small step up.

Depends how far you want to travel, Perranporth is lovely, the beach is stunning, beautiful cliffs with caves to explore and rock pools big enough to swim in, it's a sandy beach with an inlet running across it which is warm and perfect to little kids to paddle in safely, the town is small but has everything you need.
Pretty much every beach along the Cornish coast is stunning.

Namenotavail · 06/06/2021 21:58

New Brighton or Southport

Worriesome · 06/06/2021 21:59

Depends where you are, how far are you willing to travel? I ask because I was going to recommend Ayr beach but it’s in Scotland lol x

Findhorn in Moray. Everything on your list.

Lyme Regis, hands down. Fell in love with the place. Only caveat would be when it's not too busy.

@MrsPnut

Bridlington is a great seaside place with younger children. The south beach is wide and Sandy with a small splash pool and little rides.
Bridlington south beach is lovely, although they no longer have the kiddie rides there now. They do however have them in the middle of the north beach and south beach although due to the tide and the harbour you can't walk on the beach south to north side. You have to come back into the pavement. There are also some rides out towards south shore holiday village too which is maybe a 10 min walk away. That one you can walk along either the beach or pavement. If you carry on walking you come to Fraisthorpe. Somewhere in the middle of south shore and fraisthorpe the beach seems to become lovely and deserted. Quite possibly because there aren't any caravan parks in between the 2. Only downside is it probably also means there aren't any lifeguards around that particular area. Word of warning though a few people have been stung by weever fish on south side beach so definitely wear some form of sea shoes if you decide to come to Bridlington. You'll be thankful of them on North side beach too cos that's very very pebbly. There's also plenty of fish and chip shops, ice cream places, amusement arcades and a bowling alley and cinema. Again more north side.
FaceyRomford · 07/06/2021 01:47

Cromer.
Kingsdown (just south of Deal).
Mwent (Wales).
Climping (near Littlehampton).

FaceyRomford · 07/06/2021 01:48

Sorry, I was giving beaches not towns.

RainbowMum11 · 07/06/2021 01:53

Love most of the East coast really for beaches really.

Syylvia · 07/06/2021 01:59

Portobello in Edinburgh. Findhorn Bay in Moray or St Andrews, or check out the East Neuk of Fife for some lovely beaches.

PyongyangKipperbang · 07/06/2021 02:04

NTRFT but Llandudno.

Parking is a bit of a mare but I took DD when she was three and she has asked to go every year since. Luckily I am a creature of habit to happy to go back each year. We are both missing it as I couldnt afford to go in 19 and obvs last year was a dud. Have booked for August but havent told her. I will tell her we are going on a day trip somewhere and tell her we are there for a week when we arrive, as she thinks that we cant go away again this year due to covid.

sunshinepunch · 07/06/2021 03:06

Anywhere in the East Neuk of Fife. On a sunny day.... glorious
