Favourite UK seaside town?

Looking for somewhere to go for a nice UK seaside break with my partner and our 7 month old baby.

Ideally would like a nice beach to walk along and for our 7 month old to play on.
A few shops, cafes, fish and chips and ice cream nearby etc. Not really bothered about nightlife and clubs etc.

What’s your suggestions? Thanks everyone!! Grin

Aww I was going to say Dawlish Warren in Devon but it's a long way from you. Beautiful place though

I love Salcombe and Lyme Regis. Not the majestic beaches of Cornwall but fun towns.

Aberdovey, scenic mountain views, not overrun, clean.

I can recommend Anglesey - plenty of lovely beaches and interesting places to visit. And not too far from the North West.

We like Morecambe for a weekend away. Lovely beach, some nice little cafes and good play areas near the beach.

North Berwick, Bamburgh or Whitby

mum2jakie · 06/06/2021 17:41

Scarborough or Southwold

MrsFin · 06/06/2021 17:42

Tenby or Swanage for me.

Where are you driving from?

MrsDThomas · 06/06/2021 17:43

Llandudno is great! Please avoid Rhyl and Prestatyn.

Swanage in Dorset 100% is my ideal seaside town. Lovely traditional seaside feel, cute trinket shops, amazing fish and chips, a small pier and harbour wall (for crabbing) a small amount of arcades/amusements/mini-golf/little rides for kiddies, easily accessible sandy beach; and it doesn't feel tacky.
also usually in the summer they do a carnival week with fireworks, live music, beer tents, food vans etc

Filey!
Miles and miles of beautiful beach. No arcades or cheesy seaside stuff. Good choice of restaurants.
I wish I'd discovered it when my DC were little but we always went to Scarborough for aUK bucket and spade week.

The biggest plus for me is that the seafront has lots of lovely self catering houses and apartments, all with a sea view.

We went last year (instead of Greece) and looked at lots of accommodation. Booked for August through a local company. here.

Swanage and studland in Dorset

BigSandyBalls2015 · 06/06/2021 17:52

Oh yes studland ... gorgeous. We spent a week there last year in glorious sunshine ... amazing.

I love the walk from Bamburgh to Seahouses and back, although it's literally on the beach so not buggy friendly.

We've been all over the country, Wales, Norfolk, Devon, Cornwall and North Yorkshire coast , but Bamburgh is pretty special imo! We always end up going back down south for the warm weather and the surf, but your baby probably won't care about those things 😊

Agree with Swanage, we went there every year when I was a kid and I loved it. Taking my partner there this summer for our holidays and I’m ridiculously excited!

Swanage itself is great but one of the highlights for me is getting the steam train to Corfe Castle Grin

Frinton on Sea, Essex. One street town but variety of eateries. Lovely clean sand, family beaches. Clacton and Walton a few miles either side for a change plus countryside and quaint Essex villages for a garden pub. No noisy teen/drunk crowds. Hire a beach hut for a day or two.

You won't be disappointed , we just did 3 days staying at Knoll house hotel studland and popped to SwAnage every day. We love it so much we chose to get married there 3 years ago and sponsored a plank on the pier with our wedding day. It's a lovely place 😀

Get the ferry to NI . You’ll be spoilt for choice on the causeway coast. Portballintrae, Portrush , Portstewart , Bushmills . So many beautiful beaches

Southwold. Lovely sandy beach, shops and cafes.
