Favourite UK seaside town?

Looking for somewhere to go for a nice UK seaside break with my partner and our 7 month old baby.

Ideally would like a nice beach to walk along and for our 7 month old to play on.
A few shops, cafes, fish and chips and ice cream nearby etc. Not really bothered about nightlife and clubs etc.

What’s your suggestions? Thanks everyone!! Grin

The North Norfolk coast is a must! Wells and Holkham are stunning, and towns like Mundesley and Winterton are also beautiful. There are something like 30+ beaches in Norfolk, go and explore Smile

I live near southwold and I wouldn't say it was up there with the best!

Rayn · 06/06/2021 18:44

Filey is a good one. Not too far and beautiful beach.

Barry Island. Three beautiful beaches, the sea might not be blue but is clean, wonderful gelato and cafes, shops and with the brand new Goodsheds development down the road full of independent local shops and food and the best pub for miles.
Two country parks free to access within 4 miles.

@ShowOfHands

I've just spent a night in Whitby (on my way home from Scotland) and really didn't rate it. I did like a potter round some of the back streets and the abbey this morning and stumbled across a v charming pie shop but last night it was appalling. Quite a lot of drunk people and some shocking behaviour at 8.30pm. My dc were really quite upset.

Might have just been a bad night I suppose.

Really? I live in Whitby and when I took the dogs out last night, there was nothing untoward going on in town. The Bank Holiday weekend and school holiday have been quite... wearing for locals with the crowds, though.

Lytham st Anne's is lovely or Southport.

Londonmummy66 · 06/06/2021 19:07

Tenby is a great town for entertaining little ones - lots to see in the harbour and town and the little Castle Beach is very sheltered. My teens asked to go there last year for a nostalgia trip. You can usually rent a cottage/flat fairly centrally at a reasonable price if keep out of the school holiday season.

Seahouses it is a steep climb down to the beach - Bamburgh is easier and quieter but less of the ice cream and fish and chips.

Llandudno is another good choice with smallish children - quite quaint and less lively than Tenby and the beach is more exposed.

Feedingthebirds1 · 06/06/2021 19:08

Another vote for Filey - the beach has beautiful sand, not the pebbles you find in so many places.

The link @Hax gave is for 5leys, and they have lots of properties in Filey that they manage, and they're really professional and friendly.

I love Whitby, it used to be a trek but now I live up north it is much closer.

MrsWooster · 06/06/2021 19:11

Rhos on Sea. It’s perfectly old fashioned and nearby for the North West.
Donkeys at nearby Llandudno if you want to get really giddy.

VaguelyInteresting · 06/06/2021 19:15

Saltburn - lovely clean beach
Scarborough - lots to do
Bridlington - lovely long promenade - you can do quite a schlep with a buggy

Robin Hoods Bay- nicer for a couples break away
Whitby- I used to ADORE but it’s gone a bit wrong,- much prefer out of season. Spent Christmas there once in a dreadfully cold weather and loved it

AngeloMysterioso · 06/06/2021 19:19

FWI- DH and I are trying to find somewhere to go in early Sept. We’re in Kent though, doubt we’ll be schlepping as far as the North East coast!

Daisy829 · 06/06/2021 19:27

@VikingsandDragons we were on bamburgh yesterday and it was freezing because of the wind but they were filming the new Indiana Jones film & set fire to the castle which was cool to watch!
I’ve not been to Northumberland before but we are really enjoying our time here. So much to do and nice and quiet.

OatcakeCravings · 06/06/2021 19:28

Elie in East Neuk of Fife.

Whitby

VikingsandDragons · 06/06/2021 19:37

@Daisy829 my kids are on the beach today with their grandparents, I've messaged to say they need to see if they can spot Harrison Ford. There is a great little shop in the village that does lovely ice cream too. Definitely my happy place up there

Embracelife · 06/06/2021 19:39

Daisy829 · 06/06/2021 19:40

@VikingsandDragons I hope it was warmer today! I think we will go back on tues. Tbf I’m a wuss when it comes to the cold! We went for a mooch in Alnwick then to Amble beach which was nice. Kids exhausted and grumpy now.

Syphonit · 06/06/2021 20:05

Another one who votes for the Yorkshire coast, I love it!
Although I couldn't stand Filey, it was so depressing.
Probably more a post for the weird vibes thread.

JuliasTheme · 06/06/2021 20:11

Little Hampton is lovely

Rnm62 · 06/06/2021 20:37
