Favourite UK seaside town?

Looking for somewhere to go for a nice UK seaside break with my partner and our 7 month old baby.

Ideally would like a nice beach to walk along and for our 7 month old to play on.
A few shops, cafes, fish and chips and ice cream nearby etc. Not really bothered about nightlife and clubs etc.

What’s your suggestions? Thanks everyone!! Grin

Sorry, just seen your update - it’ll be a long drive to the south coast!

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 06/06/2021 16:23

Northumberland coast, particularly Alnmouth

Angelsey is lovely - crab fishing at Beamaris, lots of lovely beaches.

Llandudno in north Wales has a lovely old fashioned charm

HopeValley · 06/06/2021 16:52

Robin Hoods Bay is only good if you're a keen sling wearer. We go a lot and were there recently - saw loads of babies in slings and not a single pram/pushchair. Agree Llandudno is lovely.

Whitby every time. There is some magic there that I cannot describe, you can spend a week and not get bored but Scarborough, Robin Hood's Bay and Filey are all in easy reach by bus or car as well.

idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb · 06/06/2021 16:57

Filey or Whitby. Both lovely with lots to do. In Filey we stayed somewhere called hope cottages- right on the beach with fab views. In Whitby try Vittys cottages- all beautiful.

Thefaceofboe · 06/06/2021 16:58

As PP have said, Whitby/Scarborough/Filey/Bridlington are all nice and great for families! Hope you have a great holiday wherever you end up.

ShowOfHands · 06/06/2021 17:05

I've just spent a night in Whitby (on my way home from Scotland) and really didn't rate it. I did like a potter round some of the back streets and the abbey this morning and stumbled across a v charming pie shop but last night it was appalling. Quite a lot of drunk people and some shocking behaviour at 8.30pm. My dc were really quite upset.

Might have just been a bad night I suppose.

Mauvg · 06/06/2021 17:06

I can't pick between Bamburgh and Seahouses. Had many family holidays either in or near both.

Laiste · 06/06/2021 17:07

Weymouth is lovely, but Swanage is better :)

Easier for parking. Really lovely old fashioned 'punch and judy' style beach with ice cream kiosks and fossil and shell shops and fish and chips in the town.

I agree Scarborough is nice , try to get in to the Grand Hotel, but dont get a city break room ( I think thats what they are called ) as they are below ground and have no windows and can be very hot , it is a bit care worn but is nice or the travel lodge opposite , that can use the cliff tram rather than hiking up and down the stairs .
Parking is a bugger but free once you have checked into either but you have to be very quick to get a spot

I also really like Southport , its main road , Lord St has plenty of places to eat and drink , and there are loads of B&Bs a travel lodge and a Britannia hotel and the beach is only a few mins walk from there . there is also a huge lake ( I cant recall its name ) which is nice to sit by .

Both are easy to get to from Manchester Piccadilly train station .

Stringdsofmind · 06/06/2021 17:12

South Shields and Seaburn.

MadameKali · 06/06/2021 17:16

I second Whitley Bay and Tynemouth. Beautiful beaches and nice towns with independent shops and cafes. There's a Premier Inn rght on the sea front at Whitley.

MrsPnut · 06/06/2021 17:16

Bridlington is a great seaside place with younger children. The south beach is wide and Sandy with a small splash pool and little rides.
