Are most actresses very very slim in real life?

I saw a well known actress a few days ago, standing behind her in the queue for a coffee. She was dressed down, however was clearly very pretty in person. However I was taken aback by how slim she was. I would say she was slightly taller than average, not a tiny person if you know what I mean. But so so slim. Do you think most famous actresses/singers etc are like this? Maybe I’m very naive.

@Timetopoeet I guess it's complicated as some women would find that a fantastic compliment so don't realise they are being offensive. Thin doesn't really have negative connotations in western culture.

My cousin is very fidgety & wouldn't be able to eat my portions. She did gain a stone with the shakes but she does have to constantly watch it as she often skips meals or looses her appetite when stressed/busy.

Dragonn · 05/06/2021 22:33

and I HATE cameras and film then - because in order to LOOK healthy/slim/NORMAL you'd have to be REALLY underweight as an actress sad

Do you look at a photo of yourself and think you look nearly a stone heavier?

Timetopoeet · 05/06/2021 22:36

dorangme that's great that she gained the weight, maybe I need to persevere a bit more! x

justasking111 · 05/06/2021 22:47

A friend who's always looked big as in thighs, arms was unable to do her gym routine during the lockdowns and after because her OH was very vulnerable. I had not seen her for a year. She looks much slimmer without all the muscles. I did wonder if stars avoid certain types of exercise to appear slimmer

NutellaEllaElla · 05/06/2021 22:49

Remember when Anna Kornikova retired from tennis she was much slimmer as she lost muscle and was just thin.

I do think I look a stone heavier in photos btw.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/06/2021 23:05

Dragonn

I definitely look a stone heavier in photos - weirdly this has come up today as my favourite SIL posted a photo of me on the beach

My legs in real life do not look as large, yet in the photo they really do

I'm not kidding myself either Grin as I've recently gone from an 18 to a 12

HeadNorth · 05/06/2021 23:09

I've just googled Anna Kornikova and in every image she looks slim, fit and beautiful. What is the problem with that?

Serpenta · 05/06/2021 23:12

Just googled Anna Kournikova to see if she was still with Enrique Iglesias. Haven't thought of them in years!

(seems they're married with three kids)

NutellaEllaElla · 05/06/2021 23:17

Nothing wrong with it but i wrote it in response to a previous post talking about looking slimmer with fewer muscles.

Timetopoeet · 05/06/2021 23:22

Anna Kournikova is very beautiful

lolacola77 · 05/06/2021 23:28

I've read Carrie Fisher's autobiographies and she has never been 6 stone. Absurd. Jodie Corner and Whittaker look normal and have both said they are size 12.

I'm sick of all the shit about sizes. In the 80s size 10 was the 'dream', there weren't many size 8s around. All this size 0 is shit.

Re Victoria secrets. I've heard some model say that they don't even drink water 24hours before a show. The whole thing is a pimp fest for yachting/bearding anyway. They are prepared to suffer because the money to be made is insane.

coogee · 05/06/2021 23:29

All this size 0 is shit.

It is in the UK. It isn't a UK size.

justasking111 · 05/06/2021 23:39

In the past a size 10 was smaller inch wise, manufacturers have upped it. You would now be a size 6.

dorangme · 05/06/2021 23:41

Jodie Comer is defo a 10 & a designer size 10 so no vanity sizing. A friend did a shoot with her.

I remember that article @Chienloup and it probably was the cause of my life long battle with disordered eating. I weighed 10 stone 140lbs and at 5 8" was perfectly fine and healthy (medium build) became obsessed with getting to 9 stone. Never got there but got a whole lot heavier along the way.

Timetopoeet · 05/06/2021 23:48

That Victoria's Secret stuff is awful. Why didn't they even drink water? Ffs that's just obscene

Serpenta · 05/06/2021 23:51

I think bodybuilders avoid any liquids before competitions as the dehydration better showcases muscle definition. I presume it's the same with these models.

ovensoff · 05/06/2021 23:52

Our society has a fucked up attitude to weight and food. As long as this exists we will have women being very underweight and women being very overweight.

dorangme · 05/06/2021 23:54

Yes dehydration makes your muscles more on point so to speak.

thevassal · 05/06/2021 23:55

I accept a lot of actors are on the thin side of normal but I'm having trouble with all the excessive "pre pubescent children" "half the size of me and I'm a size 8" "absolutely tiny" comments because you'd think if they were true it would be obvious when said actors were on film beside anyone else? Even if you're suggesting all, every single actor is tiny, even the ones who aren't famous, so they don't stand out beside one another, then what about just the extras around them, who are just normal people? Or interviewers etc? Or the non on screen people (producers, stunt advisors, hair and make up etc) that you see on behind the scene footage if you're a geek like me who watches that stuff. You'd think these teeny tiny unhealthily slim people would be very apparent but it's very rare that you see a group scene and the actor is so much shorter/thinner that you'd actively notice it.

When I see the duchess of Cambridge being interviewed or filmed, for example, yes she looks slim but she doesn't look a third the size of the "normal" people she's meet and greeting, or significantly thinner than than the actual children she's chatting to. You'd think if she was that "scarily" thin it would be very obvious when comparing her (or other celebs) to anyone around them? Similarly she is obviously slimmer than Prince William yet not to the extent that she looks out of proportion when they are standing together as you would think she would if she is so unhealthily thin and he is a "normal" weight - yet nobody has suggested he's actually incredibly thin in real life?

dorangme · 05/06/2021 23:58

Er Kate Middleton made Nicole Kidman look "dumpy" according to the Daily Mail.

ovensoff · 06/06/2021 00:04

@thevassal The majority of photos of Kate are of her alone, her standing next to William or another man when of course you just think she looks so slim because it is next to a man, or next to children. The smaller number of photos next to other women shows how thin she is. And often in these photos she is wearing clothes that make her look bulkier such as a large blazer jacket or puffa jacket, rather than a fitted dress.

ovensoff · 06/06/2021 00:07

This is the photo of Kate next to Nicole Kidman.
