Are most actresses very very slim in real life?

I saw a well known actress a few days ago, standing behind her in the queue for a coffee. She was dressed down, however was clearly very pretty in person. However I was taken aback by how slim she was. I would say she was slightly taller than average, not a tiny person if you know what I mean. But so so slim. Do you think most famous actresses/singers etc are like this? Maybe I’m very naive.

I think Carrie Fisher looks fantastic in that picture and not unhealthy and emaciated at all.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/06/2021 21:33

And isn't that the problem?

If Carrie Fisher really is 6 stone in that photo then it's horribly unhealthy and just total proof that photos add weight (and that you have to be very very underweight to photograph well)

dorangme · 05/06/2021 21:35

I read an recent interview with Kate Winslet where she said she fought to not have a belly bulge airbrushed out of a sex scene.

There isn't even much of a bulge!

PracticallyFloored · 05/06/2021 21:45

@dorangme what is this about models eating cotton wool. Actual cotton wool?? I don't understand!

HeadNorth · 05/06/2021 21:45

I don't believe for one second Carrie Fisher is 6 stone in that photo.

Timetopoeet · 05/06/2021 21:49

I don't think that's what the poster meant to be fair. Think it was that she looks fine so if the camera does lie and put on weight then she must only be 6 stone

Serpenta · 05/06/2021 21:49

Carrie fisher was only about 5ft tall. I can well believe she was 6 stone in that photo.

ZednotZee · 05/06/2021 21:50

I believe she is six stone in that photo.

I have photos of me at 7 stone 11 at 5'9 looking pretty similar.

Timetopoeet · 05/06/2021 21:57

Oh ok, that's fine then. Fwiw I'm 7.5 stone and 5ft 4", it really upsets me when people use words like emaciated on threads like this Sad

LaurieFairyCake · 05/06/2021 21:59

Yes! I mean to me Carrie Fisher looks perfectly healthy in that photo

So if she's only about 6 stone with a bmi of 15 Shock then she's very very underweight

and I HATE cameras and film then - because in order to LOOK healthy/slim/NORMAL you'd have to be REALLY underweight as an actress Sad

Dragonn · 05/06/2021 22:00

Some of the interviews say she was 7 stone 5 in that photo.

ZednotZee · 05/06/2021 22:00

@Timetopoeet

You are hardly emaciated at that weight to height ratio. I don't think anybody is referring to you.

dorangme · 05/06/2021 22:00

@PracticallyFloored yep do you remember the cotton balls. So those soaked in water or juice in order to feel full, I'm not sure if they swallowed the whole thing. And yes fucking mental.

In South America girls can have plastic mesh sewn onto their tongue so they can't eat solids.

KillingMeHardly · 05/06/2021 22:00

I was in the same playground as Claire Danes from Homeland some weeks ago and despite wearing an ankle-length puffa coat, she was really narrow. I never thought of her as being particularly slim when I saw her on screen, but you have to be pretty thin to look it in a coat that's like a duvet!

I also saw Jodie Whittaker recently and she is extremely slim. And again, not someone I thought was particularly tiny before.

I guess the camera really does add 10lb!

Iamthewombat · 05/06/2021 22:02

That picture of Carrie Fisher isn’t from the first Star Wars film, which is what she was talking about in that interview upthread. Perhaps by the time that photo was taken the studio had permitted her to put on, like, half a stone or something!

Dragonn · 05/06/2021 22:03

I think people need to be aware of the incorrect information or spin some people are using on this thread to prove a point. Yes the industry is bad but that photo does not show a 6 stone Carrie.

reallyreallyborednow · 05/06/2021 22:04

I would be. Probably because I am naturally strong and athletic rather than naturally thin. That’s the point. Everyone is different and it’s unlikely every actress is naturally that skinny. Which means some are being pushed into eating disorders to achieve that look.

lljkk · 05/06/2021 22:07

Everything else I can find about CF's weight, online, is that she weighed about 105 lbs (makes sense at her height) for the first 3 SW films, & that she was asked to lose 35 lbs off the 150 lbs she was for the last SW film she appeared in. Which also makes sense.

Can't find anything about her being expected to weigh 85 lbs as actress in the films (6 stone, 5'1" tall). Think I'd have to go on a pro-Annie sight to find someone looks like that.

Sadly I suspect I am. I've had some awful things said to me, people telling me I look like a bag of bones, an ironing board, that I must be anorexic. I'm just a normal person who doesn't change weight and who dearly wishes she weighed a stone more.

I’ve just had a google and she does look much thinner in the actual film stills. Her body fat is lower so you can see the 6-pack.

Absolutely - there is a lot of nonsense being spouted as fact.
dorangme · 05/06/2021 22:16

@Timetopoeet have you been to the doc to check it's not a medical reason? My cousin had success gaining weight by drinking smoothies/milkshakes with some powder in.

Timetopoeet · 05/06/2021 22:22

dorangme thank you but I'm mid 50's and always been the same, doctors do always ask me if it's normal for me, which it is. I do feel a bit of a freak. I was at the gym the other day just waiting to go into a class and a woman looked at me and said 'you are extremely thin aren't you? I mean wtf? Sorry, not meaning to derail the thread but I just hate the language around it so much, I feel so self conscious. I do try drinking shakes etc but they fill me up so I can't then eat proper food! My body is determined that I will be 50kg and that's it!

ovensoff · 05/06/2021 22:24

There is a lot of denials that being underweight as many of these celebrities are is bad for your health. People choose to do things bad for their health all the time. But it is terrible that whole industries are based on women doing something bad for your health i.e. making yourself underweight.

Imagine what the ones that look emaciated on film/in photo's look like irl then.

I'm not looking at the Olsen twins at all.
