Are most actresses very very slim in real life?

I saw a well known actress a few days ago, standing behind her in the queue for a coffee. She was dressed down, however was clearly very pretty in person. However I was taken aback by how slim she was. I would say she was slightly taller than average, not a tiny person if you know what I mean. But so so slim. Do you think most famous actresses/singers etc are like this? Maybe I’m very naive.

If your short you probably look great as a size 6

I'm a size 6 and 5'6". How do you think I look?

mylovelydd · 05/06/2021 19:49

I once did the guest list at a birthday party of a soap actor and was shocked by how short all the actors and actresses were.
Even actors I had seen on tv loads of times and certainly didn't look short on tv were minuscule!
I'm only 5 ft 6 myself but it was like the land of the munchkins.

dorangme · 05/06/2021 19:57

It doesn't seem to matter how many models and actresses speak out about the shocking demands on women to be unhealthily slim in the industry, people on here still deny there is a problem. Well, you know what? That makes them as much a part of the problem as the people that make the demands in the first place.

I genuinely don't understand why people deny it & deflect. Is it a fear of fat or self loathing?

dorangme · 05/06/2021 20:01

I'm sure you look fine, I wouldn't say that is extreme at all.
As I said when I was modelling I was supposed to be aiming for a 24" waist. That was too small for my height & more importantly my shape as I carry more weight on my boobs & stomach.

People have different size frames & height so a blanket target of X size or X stone is nonsense.

Dragonn · 05/06/2021 20:08

it was like the land of the munchkins.

Nice.

EmeraldShamrock · 05/06/2021 20:25

Why do you keep bringing up veganism? Isn't it the new clean eating craze usually adopted by celebrities.

dorangme · 05/06/2021 20:26

Some I'm sure but all?

EmeraldShamrock · 05/06/2021 20:26

4 meals daily? Breakfast, lunch, dinner, pre bedtime snack.

dorangme · 05/06/2021 20:28

I just have 3 meals with some snacks like an apple in between, same as everyone I know. I also don't count my apple or a biscuit as a meal.

EmeraldShamrock · 05/06/2021 20:29

Some I'm sure but all? Hardly all I'd say a higher percentage are vegan over those than aren't.

EmeraldShamrock · 05/06/2021 20:32

Do you ask everyone you know what way they eat throughout the day? I wouldn't count an apple or biscuit as a meal neither.

dorangme · 05/06/2021 20:32

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, pre bedtime snack.

This is not 4 meals is it? A snack is not a meal.

TheVolturi · 05/06/2021 20:34

I went on the Coronation St tour quite a few years ago, and they showed us Carla's wedding dress, it was absolutely tiny, they said she is really small and tiny in real life, in TV she looks normal!

EmeraldShamrock · 05/06/2021 20:37

Depends on the bedtime snack a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, boiled egg on toast, ceackers and cheese, a bowl of cereal, fruit salad with yogurt, are usually my choice of bedtime snacks I'd have said "my tea " over bedtime snack however I know mumsnet feelings on bedtime snacks referred to as tea. Wink

dorangme · 05/06/2021 20:38

Do you, as you assumed everyone was eating 4? I'm just basing it on family & various people I've lived with.

reallyreallyborednow · 05/06/2021 20:41

Cutting out massive parts of a diet is a common sign of an eating disorder. Many are gluten/lactose/whatever intolerant also. Gives an excuse not to eat.

In the 90’s vegetarianism went through my ballet class like the flu. The reality is it meant they could cut their food intake drastically without parents becoming suspicious.

So anyone shorter than you is a 'munchkin'. Who declared your height to be optimal and anyone shorter defective and laughable?
jumpingjackbeans · 05/06/2021 20:51

It always makes me laugh when I read articles about how Prince William has commented how Catherine 'loves a spicy curry'.

This is not a woman who is tucking into a chicken vindaloo or a lamb rogan josh with rice and bhajis washed down with a nice glass of wine on a Saturday night is it, let's be honest!

This is more likely to be a 'curry' as in made by a chef at home, beautifully spiced veg, no carbs, maybe with a small piece of chicken or fish.

Her physique is no doubt down to hard work and determination. It takes commitment to be that slim. But all of her food will be prepared for her, by skilled chefs, who will be measuring and calorie counting. She will be working out daily.

I think she looks lovely, if super slim, but she looked even more lovely when she was pregnant and had a bit of weight in her face. There's a picture of her in a dark green dress at (I think) The BAFTAs a few years when she was fairly heavily pregnant and she looked absolutely beautiful.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 05/06/2021 20:56

When I was at my thinnest ( after a break up) I was amazed at how many people commented on my height and how small I was.

People definitely think I’m taller now I’m a bit heftier. It’s a reason I like carrying more weight. I hated being “ little” as nice as clothes looked on me.

SweatyPie · 05/06/2021 21:17

@dorangme

Why are slim women always the target of comments like this? What about the pressure to gain weight and be 'thick' to not look "like a 10 year old boy"- as one person put it?

Also, nobody defends forcing women to be skinny to get a role/developing an eating disorder. But you don't know anyone's diet, nor is it appropriate to comment either way.

Why always slim women? Must be self loathing.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/06/2021 21:22

I think it's really interesting people saying that Kate Winslet looks 'normal' in real life

On screen in Mare of Easttown she looks like an average, slim and healthy size 10 - she looks phenomenal. She's constantly being talked about as if she's curvy, healthy, like your 'girl next door'

In real life she's no more than a size 6. (Still totally normal and healthy looking) but MUCH smaller than she looks on screen.

The camera makes people look much bigger.

And earlier you were talking about Carrie Fisher being 7 stone 5 and being told she had to lose weight for the role of Leia - I've heard that awful story too - so here she is
I think she looks healthy and curvy so clearly as it's a photo she is actually emaciated and 6 stone Sad

I don’t know why people get defensive on this thread

It’s about celebs in particular and I doubt many here have the same pressures

FierceBarrie · 05/06/2021 21:23

@Roonerspismed

Well if they can have kids, they can’t be too thin as the body shuts down fertility first.

Most of the women mentioned here have had kids just fine.

And yet actual malnourished women in famine-ridden countries also have children ‘just fine’.
dorangme · 05/06/2021 21:23

@SweatyPie

Why on earth is it not appropriate to have an opinion & discussion about why certain industries pressure women to look a certain way?

So I shouldn't talk about other models I know eating cotton wool or being told I should lose weight when I was already very slim because you don't like it? Jog on!

dorangme · 05/06/2021 21:27

@MarshaBradyo because they are all A-list celebs too, doubt it 😆
