What's your go to dinner when you've got nothing in the fridge and you're doing a food shop the next day?

If its not a takeaway obviously..
I always have copious amounts of tinned tuna and pasta in the house so it's almost always tuna pasta!

Cheese, eggs or beans on toast. Or pizza from the freezer.

Bovrilly · 04/06/2021 19:53

Spaghetti with garlic and chilli. Had it this evening in fact.

funnyoldonion · 04/06/2021 19:54

Spaghetti aglio olio e peperoncino

Fried rice, assuming there is an egg

Some kind of chickpea and tomato stew with abs from the pantry and the dregs of the veg crisper

Hsjdb7483939 · 04/06/2021 19:57

Pesto pasta with peas or a freezer dinner of waffles and bean burger

CatCup · 04/06/2021 19:57

Frozen pizza

SaigonSaigon · 04/06/2021 19:59

Spaghetti with a knob of butter and a teaspoon of marmite. Yum!

AllIknowsofar · 04/06/2021 19:59

Omelette or beans on toast

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/06/2021 20:00

takeaway.

but we have 1 full sized fridge, 1 full sized freezer, a fridge-freezer and a small fridge - plus lots of cupboards full of non-perishables so we seldom have nothing in the fridge!

Iggly · 04/06/2021 20:00

Beans on toast, freezer dive or tuna pasta

StevieNix · 04/06/2021 20:03

Tuna pasta for us too usually,
Or pesto pasta, or pasta with a knob of butter and dried powder Parmesan.
Or jacket potato with beans or tuna

AliasGrape · 04/06/2021 20:05

If it was just me then pasta with whatever sauce and veg I could cobble together from freezer/ store cupboard stuff, or just butter and black pepper.

If theres eggs and cheese still knocking around and my husband is involved then omelette, the man loves an omelette as does DD.

FourTurnings · 04/06/2021 20:07

Pasta pesto.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/06/2021 20:11

Egg and chips
Omelette
Or I'd nip out for mushrooms and have mushrooms on toast

merryhouse · 04/06/2021 20:12

Never have this because I walk for perishables twice a week...

but if (for example) I'd had a hideous migraine on shopping day and noone else was around and I woke up starving then I'd get oven chips and a tin of baked beans (or possibly peas, depending on how I felt) and either fish fingers, burgers or sausages.

As a teenager I'd have said a huge plate of instant mash, preferably with grated cheese but in this scenario obviously not. Fish fingers in that case, or possibly sausages.

MadMadMadamMim · 04/06/2021 20:12

Risotto, probably. I've always got some arborio rice and stock cubes.

You can add anything that's kicking around to risotto. Frozen peas/spinach if nothing else.

roguetomato · 04/06/2021 20:14

Same here, tuna pasta. I actually made tuna pasta with cream sauce tonight.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 04/06/2021 20:16

egg and chips
food of the gods, and I always have both in.

trilbydoll · 04/06/2021 20:16

Pasta, cheese and ketchup. DH says this isn't a meal so he usually has nachos.

Pebbledashery · 04/06/2021 20:17

Can't go wrong with egg and chips.

Everything will be separate, not any recipe cooked all in together, IYSWIM.

So there'll be something from a tin or the freezer - sausages, fish, burgers, that kind of thing.

And chips usually, but if there's no chips I can do rice or couscous.

And whatever veg I've got either steamed or roasted. If no 'proper' veg then a tin of beans will do.

blahblahfootballblah · 04/06/2021 20:17

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

Mushrooms of toast? What corner of hell did you find that in Confused

SmednotaSmoo · 04/06/2021 20:20

Daal - depending on what’s in, something with - lentils, onions, spices, tinned tomatoes, block of coconut cream, frozen spinach, random leftover veg.

Replace lentils for chickpeas for a curry type thing.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 04/06/2021 20:22

Possibly pasta and herbs or pesto. Or I always have rice and yoghurt, so this (with barberries, lentils or herbs) and curried whatever I can find (egg curry is acceptable).

But then mum was a war child and I take after her (enough food for a siege).

Happymum12345 · 04/06/2021 20:26

Marmite on toast
